Indianola, also known as Indianola townsite, was a settlement in Shawnee County, Kansas north of Topeka. It was established in 1854 along the government and stage road between Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth, and received more visitors than the nearby town of Topeka. At the time, the area was part of the Kansas Territory. Samuel J. Reader settled in the area in 1855 and established a farm at the age of 19. He stayed in the area and kept a diary about local events, including Bleeding Kansas, Civil War events, and area skirmishes.Prior to the American Civil War, the town was primarily proslavery and its residents were often at odds with Topeka residents who wanted Kansas to be a free state. For instance, on August 30, 1856, there were proslavery supporters who caused an incident. The local militia was brought in to prevent fire and theft. Although it was called the Battle of Indianola, there was no fighting. Once the war began, however, many Indianola residents joined the Union Army. Company F of the Fifteenth Kansas Cavalry was recruited in the town to fight for the Union Army during the war.Town residents began to move away from Indianola after the Kansas Pacific Railway built their railroad line through Topeka in or after 1865. The post office was discontinued December 29, 1868.

Soldier Creek is a stream in Jackson County, Kansas and Shawnee County, Kansas and Nemaha County, Kansas, in the United States. It is a tributary of the Kansas River. Soldier Creek was named from its frequent use as a camping site of soldiers passing from Fort Leavenworth to Fort Riley.

North Topeka, Kansas is an area of Topeka, Kansas. Although not officially a city, it is treated like one by many of its residents, and experiences relatively low crime rates compared to the rest of Topeka. Unlike most of the City of Topeka, North Topeka is served primarily by the Seaman USD 345 School District. The City of Topeka was actually incorporated in North Topeka.

North Topeka Baptist Church is a church building at 123 NW Gordon in Topeka, Kansas, United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. It was built in 1921. It survived a flood in 1951.

Great Overland Station, listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Union Pacific Railroad Passenger Depot, is a museum and former railroad station in Topeka, Kansas, United States. The station was built from 1925 to 27 and designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood, whose firm designed over 20 Union Pacific Railroad stations from 1924 to 1931. The station's Free Classical Revival design uses terra cotta extensively and features a center pavilion with two increasingly smaller pavilions on either side. Passenger service to the station began in January 1927; almost 20,000 people attended the station's grand opening, and the new station was considered "one of the largest and finest stations west of the Missouri River". In the later years of its train station life, it also hosted the passenger trains of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (Rock Island Lines). The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway 'Santa Fe' had its trains stop at its own Topeka station.

The Topeka Boulevard Bridge is a four-lane automobile and pedestrian crossing of the Kansas River at Topeka, Kansas, U.S.A. A complete rebuilding of the bridge took place from 2006 to 2008, in which guarded walkways for pedestrians were added, as well as various aesthetic amenities, like a clock. The bridge spans the Kansas River from West 1st Avenue to NW Gordon Street.

The Ward-Meade House is a historic house in Topeka, Kansas. It was built in 1870 for Anthony A. Ward and his wife, née Mary Jane Foster. It was inherited by their daughter Jennie, who lived here with her husband John Meade, an engineer for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. It remained in the Ward-Meade family until 1961, when it was acquired by the city of Topeka.It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since November 12, 1975.

Ward-Meade Park Botanical Gardens 2.5 acres (10,000 m2) are botanical gardens located in Historic Ward-Meade Park at 124 NW Fillmore Street, Topeka, Kansas, United States. The gardens feature more than 500 varieties of flowers, shrubs, and trees, all labeled with their botanical names, as well as a water garden with a footbridge, a gazebo and benches.

The North Kansas Avenue Bridge is a four lane, automobile and pedestrian crossing of the Kansas River at Topeka, Kansas, U.S.A. The bridge connects downtown Topeka to North Topeka. It is open to traffic. The North Kansas Avenue Bridge opened in 1967. It replaced the Melan Arch Bridge, which had collapsed two years prior on July 2, 1965, killing one motorist. The Melan Arch Bridge opened in 1898 and was the only bridge to North Topeka until 1938.Unlike the Melan Arch Bridge, the North Topeka side of the North Kansas Avenue Bridge does not connect directly with Kansas Avenue; it instead leads to N.E. Quincy St. This caused traffic to bypass the North Topeka business district on Kansas Avenue, which local merchants claim led to the decline of the business district. A fly-off ramp known as the "Curtis Flyoff" was built in 2004 to connect the bridge to the Kansas Avenue business district and Great Overland Station.
