Sumas, Washington

Huntingdon is a community within Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. It is located immediately north of the Canada–US border, and is the location of the Sumas-Huntingdon Border Crossing. The main road through the community is Highway 11. The name of the community is also the present name of the border crossing connecting to Sumas, Washington. It is named for Collis P. Huntington, a Union Pacific Railroad railway executive who helped connect the Canadian Pacific Railway line to US Lines. The CPR wanted direct BC connection to Seattle, south, and onto California so it built a bridge at Mission and rail line across Matsqui Prairie to connect with the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway. The Northern Pacific Railway, Union Pacific Railroad and Milwaukee Roads built lines to Sumas, with an eye of coming to Vancouver, but never crossed the border in the end. BC Electric Railway and Great Northern did build to Huntingdon and into the eastern Fraser Valley. Member of Parliament for Abbotsford, Ed Fast, is spearheading an effort to have the border crossing renamed to Abbotsford.

The Sumas–Huntingdon Border Crossing connects Sumas, Washington and Abbotsford, British Columbia on the Canada–US border. Washington State Route 9 on the American side joins British Columbia Highway 11 on the Canadian side.

The Envision Athletic Centre is a 21,500-square-foot (2,000 m2) multi-purpose athletics facility on the campus of the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. It opened in May 2002 and was upgraded in 2005. It hosts the university of the Fraser Valley Cascades basketball team on a basketball court that seats 1,700. It also has a second court seating 350.

The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), formerly known as University College of the Fraser Valley and Fraser Valley College, is a Canadian public university with campuses in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission and Hope, British Columbia. Founded in 1974 as Fraser Valley College, it was a response to the need for expanded vocational training in the communities of the Fraser Valley. In 1988, it became a university college, with degree-granting status. As the University College of the Fraser Valley, it grew rapidly, becoming one of the largest university colleges in Canada. In recognition of the growing needs for higher education within the region and in the province, the provincial government granted full university status on 21 April 2008. Student enrollment is now over 15,000 students annually. In the 2010 The Globe and Mail Canadian University Report, UFV earned the most "A Range" grades of any post-secondary institution in British Columbia, receiving A grades in quality of education, student–faculty interaction, and ease of registration.

The Abbotsford Centre, formerly Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, is a 7,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The arena was expected to cost $64.7-million. Construction began on September 24, 2007. As of 2021, it is the home of the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League (AHL) after previously hosting AHL's Abbotsford Heat from 2009 to 2014.

Matsqui Institution is a federal medium-security prison facility in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, about 70 kilometres east of Vancouver. The Institution is operated by the Correctional Service of Canada and was opened in 1966. Accommodations for the general population are provided in a three-story living unit with a central core of security control posts. Matsqui provides a number of basic programs, as well as vocational training programs and the Aboriginal Basic Healing Program, which focuses on First Nations. Work is completed to increase capacity at the Institution. Construction of one new 96-bed living unit has been completed and was opened in 2013.

Nooksack Valley High School is a four-year public secondary school located in rural Whatcom County, just north of Nooksack. It is located just north of Nooksack, Washington, on E. Badger Road at the junction of State Route 9 and State Route 546. The school mascot is a Pioneer and the school colors are purple and white.

Abbotsford Senior Secondary School is a public high school in Abbotsford, British Columbia, part of School District 34 Abbotsford.

Castle Fun Park is an amusement park located in Abbotsford, British Columbia, by the Trans-Canada Highway. The park is built like a castle resembling medieval architecture and includes many attractions and arcade games. The park is currently run by the Wiebe family.

Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARHCC) is a 300-bed Canadian health care facility in the City of Abbotsford, British Columbia that houses the acute care Abbotsford Regional Hospital (ARH) operated by Fraser Health and the regional cancer facility (Abbotsford Centre) operated by the BC Cancer Agency. ARHCC opened in 2008 as: the first new hospital built in the province in 30 years, the first hospital in Western Canada to have a cancer centre integrated in its design from the ground up, Canada's first newly constructed hospital to meet LEED Gold environmentally friendly standards, the largest construction project to date in the Fraser Valley, the first in the province to be built using a (P3) public-private partnership model.It is also the city's largest worksite in terms of number of employees.

Mill Lake is a small lake in the city of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, located between the Trans-Canada Highway and South Fraser Way. It is the centrepiece of Mill Lake Park.

Sevenoaks Shopping Centre is a shopping mall complex in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. Sevenoaks has over 100 retail stores, services and food establishments. Sevenoaks is located approximately one hour east of Vancouver, and minutes from two U.S. border crossings. Sevenoaks Shopping Centre was built in 1975; expansions occurred in 1984, 1989, 1991 and 1999-2000. During the 1991 expansion, a Water Clock was purchased and added to the mall, this was moved to the Abbotsford International Airport in 2000 due to maintenance issues. It has over 560,000 square feet (52,000 m2) of retail and services that serve the Fraser Valley. It is managed by Morguard.
