Glover, Vermont

The Orleans-Caledonia-1 Representative District is a two-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is one of the 108 one or two member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census. The Orleans-Caledonia-1 District includes all of the Orleans County towns of Albany, Barton, Craftsbury, Glover, and Greensboro, and the Caledonia County towns of Sheffield and Wheelock. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The two member Orleans-Caledonia-1 District had a population of 7,840 in that same census, 3.42% below the state average.

Lake Parker, is located in the northwest corner of West Glover, Orleans County, Vermont in an area known as the Northeast Kingdom. This freshwater lake covers 239 acres (0.97 km2) and is just over one mile (1.6 km) long and one-half mile wide; its maximum depth is 48 feet (15 m). The lake is fed by two primary streams and outlets into Roaring Brook, which empties into the Barton River, Lake Memphremagog and, eventually, Canada's St. Lawrence River. It is bordered on three sides by seasonal homes; the southern end is a natural estuary sheltering waterfowl. The surrounding land is farmed for raising dairy cattle.

Glover is the primary village and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Glover, Orleans County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 256, out of 1,114 in the entire town of Glover. The CDP is in southeastern Orleans County, along the northern edge of the town of Glover. It is bordered to the north by the town of Barton. Vermont Route 16 runs through the community, leading north 3 miles (5 km) to Barton village and southwest 19 miles (31 km) to Hardwick. The Barton River flows northward through the village; it is the southernmost tributary of Lake Memphremagog.

The Bread and Puppet Theater (often known simply as Bread & Puppet) is a politically radical puppet theater, active since the 1960s, based in Glover, Vermont as of January 2020. The theater was co-founded by Elka and Peter Schumann. Schumann is the artistic director. The name Bread & Puppet is derived from the theater's practice of sharing its own fresh bread, served for free with aïoli, with the audience of each performance to create community, and from its central principle art should be as basic as bread to life. Some have heard echoes of the Roman phrase "bread and circuses" or the labor slogan "Bread and Roses" in the theater's name as well, though these are not often mentioned in Bread & Puppet's own explanations of its name. The Bread and Puppet Theater participates in parades including Independence Day celebrations, notably in Cabot, Vermont, with many effigies including a satirical Uncle Sam on stilts.

The Museum of Everyday Life was founded in 2011 by Clare Dolan in Glover, Vermont. It is an independently run museum whose mission is to capture a “...slow-motion cataloguing of the quotidian–a detailed, theatrical expression of gratitude and love for the minuscule and unglamorous experience of daily life in all its forms.” The museum's focus is to highlight the beauty in everyday objects that are traditionally overlooked or taken for granted and does so by creating public exhibits, writing articles and manifestos in their philosophy department, and by creating and doing live performances.The museum, housed in a 70-year-old barn on Dolan's personal property, operates using the honor system where visitors are asked to turn on and off the lights as they come and go and are asked to make a donation instead of being charged admission.

Barton Academy was a high school in the town of Barton and also served surrounding towns for over a century. The high school (the Academy) was replaced by the Lake Region High School on September 11, 1967. The Academy alumni continue to meet annually. They fund scholarships for graduates of Lake Region. The building also housed the town's grammar school.

The Crystal Lake Falls Historic District, also known as the Brick Kingdom, is a historic industrial and residential area in Barton, Vermont, United States. It is located along Water Street and Main Street, roughly paralleling Willoughby Brook, whose waters powered the area's industries. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on August 7, 1994.

Barton is a village located near the center of the town of Barton, in Orleans County, Vermont, United States. The population was 690 at the 2020 census.

In 1893 (1893), the Conversion of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church was founded in Barton, Vermont, USA. The parish is under the guidance of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington. The church is usually called St. Paul's by parishioners.

The King Block is a historic apartment house at 117 High Street, Barton, Vermont, United States. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on July 20, 2002. Built in 1870 and expanded several times, it is a well-preserved example of tenement-style worker housing of the late 19th century.

Crystal Lake State Park is a day-use state park and historic site in Barton, Vermont, United States. It is located at 96 Bellwater Avenue, off Willoughby Lake Road (Vermont Route 16) just east of the village, at the northwestern end of 763-acre (309 ha) Crystal Lake. It features a sandy beach with swimming area, and a bath house built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). A cottage is available for rental. The park was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on August 30, 2005, for its association with the CCC.

Barton is a town in Orleans County, Vermont, United States. The population was 2,872 at the 2020 census. The town includes two incorporated villages, Barton and Orleans. Approximately a quarter of the town's population lives in each of the villages, and approximately half lives outside the villages. Only four other towns in the state contain two incorporated villages.The Nulhegan Abenaki Tribe, a state-recognized tribe, is headquartered here.
