Malta Township was originally formed as Etna Township from a portion of DeKalb Township in September, 1856; it was renamed to Malta Township in December 1858. Kishwaukee College is in this township.

Northern Illinois University's Convocation Center is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena, at 1525 W Lincoln Hwy, in DeKalb, Illinois, US. The arena opened in 2002. The Convocation Center is home to both the Northern Illinois Huskies men's basketball and women's basketball teams, volleyball, Wrestling, gymnastics, and women's indoor track and field squads. Previously, the basketball teams played at the Chick Evans Field House. The Convocation Center also houses many other events including the opening convocation ceremony for freshmen, concerts, job fairs, expositions, and the annual graduation ceremony. The first Northern Illinois athletic event in the new facility happened on August 30, 2002, when the Huskies women's volleyball team defeated IUPUI, 3–1, in the opening round of the Best Western Invitational at Victor E. Bon Jovi was scheduled to rehearse at the arena beginning February 14, 2008, prior to the start of the North American leg of their Lost Highway Tour on February 18 in Omaha, but was forced to start the tour without rehearsals due to the NIU shooting and the subsequent closure of the campus.A county-wide meeting of Jehovah's Witnesses takes place here yearly during the second weekend of August.

The NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex is a multi-purpose stadium located on the campus of Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, Illinois, United States. The 1,500-seat stadium is home to the NIU men's and women's soccer and women's outdoor track and field teams. The complex was completed in 2008.

Ralph McKinzie Field is a baseball venue in DeKalb, Illinois, United States, on the campus of Northern Illinois University (NIU). It is home to the NIU Huskies baseball team of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I as a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The field is named for Ralph McKinzie, former head coach of the program. Built in 1965, it has a capacity of 1,500 spectators.

Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium is a college football stadium in the central United States, located on the campus of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Opened 59 years ago in 1965, it is the home field of the NIU Huskies of the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

Northern Illinois University (NIU) is a public research university in DeKalb, Illinois. It was founded as Northern Illinois State Normal School in 1895 by Illinois Governor John P. Altgeld to provide the state with college-educated teachers. In addition to the main campus in DeKalb, it has satellite centers in Chicago, Naperville, Rockford, and Oregon, Illinois. The university is composed of seven degree-granting colleges and has a student body of approximately 16,000. NIU is one of seven public universities in Illinois that compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's, Division I. The athletic teams are known as the Huskies and compete in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

The Chick Evans Field House is a 6,000-seat multi-purpose arena in DeKalb, Illinois, USA. The arena opened in 1956 and was home to the Northern Illinois University Huskies basketball team prior to the 2002 opening of the Convocation Center. It was named in honor of longtime NIU athletic director George “Chick” Evans. The building is now used for recreation, housing basketball, indoor soccer, and floor hockey. It is also the base of operations for the university's ROTC program. In addition some smaller-scale events, such as organizational expos by the Student Association, are still held here. Over the years, the Field House was also used as a concert venue. Elton John played there in 1972, The Beach Boys in 1972, Santana played there on February 10, 1973. KISS played there in 1974 (Kiss Tour '74). Frank Zappa played there in 1976. UK band Jethro Tull played there in 1975. Muddy Waters from Chicago played there in 1976. DeKalb Township is one of nineteen townships in DeKalb County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2020 census, its population was 42,667 and it contained 18,004 housing units. DeKalb Township was originally named Orange Township, but was renamed on November 20, 1850.

The Joseph F. Glidden House is located in the United States in the DeKalb County, Illinois city of DeKalb. It was the home to the famed inventor of barbed wire Joseph Glidden. The barn, still located on the property near several commercial buildings, is said to be where Glidden perfected his improved version of barbed wire which would eventually transform him into a successful entrepreneur. The Glidden House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The home was designed by another barbed wire patent holder in DeKalb, Jacob Haish. The property contains the house and two outbuildings; the barn and the remains of an old windmill foundation. Constructed in 1861, the Glidden House adheres mostly to a French Colonial style of architecture. The raised basement and full-length porch are two of the architectural elements found on the Glidden House that are consistently found in French Colonial homes. The barn, a building of high historical significance, was not included as part of the National Register listing for the property until 2002, nearly 30 years after the original nomination was approved.
