Blacksburg is an incorporated town in Montgomery County, Virginia, United States, with a population of 44,826 at the 2020 census. Blacksburg, and the surrounding county is dominated economically and demographically by the presence of Virginia Tech.Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and the city of Radford are the three principal jurisdictions of the Blacksburg-Christiansburg Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses those jurisdictions and all of Montgomery, Pulaski, and Giles counties for statistical purposes. The MSA has an estimated population of 181,863 and is currently one of the faster-growing MSAs in Virginia. Blacksburg High School, which in 2013 opened a new building, is often ranked among the top schools of the nation for its academics.

Top of the Stairs (popularly known as TOTS and for a period of time in the mid-1980s and early 1990s was called The Balcony) is a bar and restaurant in Blacksburg, Virginia, near the Virginia Tech campus. Established in 1978 and located at 217 West College Ave, TOTS is popular among Virginia Tech students and alumni due to its history, proximity to campus, signature mixed drink known as the Rail, and Tuesday night karaoke. The establishment's name comes from the large staircase leading from the street to the front entrance. The side and back feature a large balcony overlooking a lower, ground-level area with a stage and secondary bar.

New Life Christian Fellowship (NLCF) is an evangelical Christian church in Blacksburg, Virginia that ministers to the Virginia Tech and New River Valley communities. An estimated 200 worshipers attend one of the church's three weekly gatherings, most of whom are college students attending services on the Virginia Tech campus.

The Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation is a cultural institution in the Town of Blacksburg, Virginia, that sponsors exhibits, concerts, lecture series, and other cultural activities. The museum is headquartered in the Alexander Black House. The BM&CF also consists of the St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall, a museum of African-American heritage in Blacksburg.

The Virginia Tech – Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering & Sciences is a Biomedical Engineering and Sciences School affiliated with Virginia Tech and Wake Forest University. In 2003, the School of Biomedical Engineering & Sciences was established as a joint partnership. The school offers Masters and Doctorate degrees in biomedical engineering as well as a joint DVM-PhD degree in collaboration with the Virginia–Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.

The Odd Fellows Hall, also known as Tadmore Light Lodge, No. 6184, is a historic Grand United Order of Odd Fellows meeting hall located at Blacksburg, Montgomery County, Virginia. It was built in 1905, and is a two-story frame structure clad in painted weatherboard siding. It has a standing seam metal gable roof. The building served throughout the early- to mid-20th century as the social center of the local African-American community.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Blacksburg Historic District is a national historic district located at Blacksburg, Montgomery County, Virginia. The district encompasses 137 contributing buildings and 2 contributing sites in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of the town of Blacksburg. The district includes commercial, residential, and institutional buildings in a variety of popular architectural styles including Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, and Colonial Revival. Notable buildings include the Johnson House (c. 1840), Blacksburg Presbyterian Church #1 (1847), Smith-Montgomery House (c. 1825), Croy House, Spout Spring House, Deyerle's Store (1875-1877), W. B. Conway Building, Presbyterian manse (1907), Sheriff Camper House (c. 1910), Christ Episcopal Church (1875-1879, with tower added in 1934 by Ralph Adams Cram), African Methodist Episcopal Church of Blacksburg, Blacksburg Presbyterian Church (1904), Blacksburg Methodist Church (1910), St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hunter's Lodge Masonic Building (1928), Martin-Logan Store (c. 1925), Lyric Theater (1922), and Ellett's Drug Store (1900).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The Virginia Tech Stability Wind Tunnel is a medium-scale wind tunnel located at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Virginia. With a test section measuring 6 by 6 ft (1.8 by 1.8 m) and maximum wind speeds of approximately 262.6 ft/s (80.0 m/s), it is one of the largest university-owned wind tunnels in the United States, and is used for a wide variety of research projects within the college as well as being contracted out for commercial use, especially product testing. Professor William Devenport is the current director, and Dr. Aurelien Borgoltz is the assistant director.

The Alexander Black House is a historical house in the Queen Anne Victorian architectural style, located in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States.

The Virginia Tech shooting was a spree shooting that occurred on Monday, April 16, 2007, comprising two attacks on the campus of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States. Seung-Hui Cho, an undergraduate student at the university, killed 32 people and wounded 17 others with two semi-automatic pistols. Six others were injured jumping out of windows to escape Cho. The first shooting occurred at West Ambler Johnston Hall, a dormitory, where two people were killed; the main attack was a school shooting at Norris Hall, a classroom building, where Cho chained the main entrance doors shut and fired into four classrooms and in a stairwell, killing thirty more people. As police stormed Norris Hall, Cho fatally shot himself in the head. It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history and remained so for nine years until the Orlando nightclub shooting. It remains the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history and the deadliest mass shooting in Virginia history. The attacks received international media coverage and provoked widespread criticism of U.S. gun culture. It sparked debate about gun violence, gun laws, gaps in the U.S. system for treating mental health issues, Cho's state of mind, the responsibility of college administrations, privacy laws, journalism ethics, and other issues. News organizations that aired portions of Cho's multimedia manifesto were criticized by victims' families, Virginia law enforcement officials, and the American Psychiatric Association.Cho had previously been diagnosed with selective mutism and severe depression. During much of his middle school and high school years, he received therapy and special education support. After graduating from high school, Cho enrolled at Virginia Tech. Because of federal privacy laws, the university was unaware of Cho's previous diagnoses or the accommodations he had been granted at school. In 2005, Cho was accused of stalking two female students. After an investigation, a Virginia special justice declared Cho mentally ill and ordered him to attend treatment. Because he was not institutionalized, he was allowed to purchase guns. The shooting prompted the state of Virginia to close legal loopholes that had allowed individuals adjudicated as mentally unsound to purchase handguns without detection by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). It also led to the passage of the first major federal gun control measure in the U.S. since 1994. The law strengthening the NICS was signed by President George W. Bush on January 5, 2008.Administrators at Virginia Tech were criticized by the Virginia Tech Review Panel, a state-appointed panel tasked with investigating the incident, for failing to take action that might have decreased the number of casualties. The panel's report also reviewed gun laws and pointed out gaps in mental health care as well as privacy laws that left Cho's deteriorating condition untreated when he was a student at Virginia Tech.: 78 : 2 

The Phillips–Ronald House, also known as the Carrington Lybrook House and Five Chimneys, is a historic home located at Blacksburg, Montgomery County, Virginia. It was built in 1851–1852, and is a one-story, brick dwelling with a hipped roof and double-pile, central-passage plan. It features a late-19th century, three-bay central entrance porch with sawn brackets and spindles in the gable and slender turned posts. Also on the property is a contributing frame garage.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Miles Stadium was a college football stadium located on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Virginia. It was the home field of Virginia Tech's football team from 1926 to 1964, until the new Lane Stadium opened in 1965.Miles Stadium opened in 1926 with 3,760 permanent seats. Subsequent expansions increased seating capacity to 17,000 permanent seats and temporary bleachers. The stadium's inaugural game was a victory over Roanoke College on September 25; four weeks later, the dedication game was a win over rival Virginia. The playing field was aligned northwest to southeast, at an approximate elevation of 2,050 feet (625 m) above sea level. The stadium's last game was in 1964, a Virginia Tech victory over North Carolina State on November 7. The stadium was razed in 1965 and over the next thirty years the large grassy area became known as the "Prairie." In the 1990s, three new residence halls, Payne Hall, Peddrew-Yates Hall, and New Residence Hall East (together known as the "Prairie Quad") were built on the former site of Miles Stadium. Of the 95 varsity football games played in the venue, Virginia Tech compiled a 66–25–4 (.716) record; the most memorable win was arguably in its final season, the 1964 homecoming defeat of Florida State on October 24. Undefeated FSU was ranked tenth in the nation, and was the highest-ranked team defeated at Miles Stadium. Virginia Tech did not defeat a higher ranked team until the 1995 win in the Sugar Bowl over #9 Texas on New Year's Eve.Miles Stadium was named for Clarence P. "Sally" Miles, Virginia Tech class of 1901, former director of athletics, graduate athletic manager, professor, and dean. Virginia Tech's Miles residence hall is also named for C.P. Miles.
