The Ōmi Ōtsu Palace (近江大津宮, Ōmi Ōtsu-no-miya) was an imperial palace built by Emperor Tenchi in Asuka Period Japan in what is now the city of Ōtsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. It served as the capital of Japan for a five-year period from 667 to 672 AD. Also known as the Ōtsu Palace (大津宮, Ōtsu-no-miya), Shiga no Miyako (志賀の都), it was most frequently referred to in ancient sources as the Ōmi Ōtsu-no-miya (水海大津宮). It was at this location that the Ōmi Code and the family registry system were promulgated, which laid the foundations for the later ritsuryō state. It location was designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1979, with the area under protection expanded in 2007

Nagara-san Onjo-ji (長等山園城寺, Nagarasan Onjōji), also known as just Onjo-ji, or Mii-dera (三井寺), is a Buddhist temple in Japan located at the foot of Mount Hiei, in the city of Ōtsu in Shiga Prefecture. It is a short distance from both Kyoto, and Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake. The head temple of the Jimon sect of Tendai, it is a sister temple to Enryaku-ji, at the top of the mountain, and is one of the four largest temples in Japan. Altogether, there are 40 named buildings in the Mii-dera complex. Mii-dera is temple 14 in the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage.

Omi Jingu (近江神宮, Ōmi Jingū) or Omi Shrine is a Jingū shinto shrine in Ōtsu, a city in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. It was constructed in 1940 and is dedicated to Emperor Tenji. It was formerly an imperial shrine of the first rank (官幣大社, kanpei taisha) in the Modern system of ranked Shinto Shrines. The shrine is located near Ōmijingūmae Station.

Lake Biwa Canal (琵琶湖疏水 or 琵琶湖疎水, Biwako Sosui) is a historic waterway in Japan connecting Lake Biwa to the nearby City of Kyoto. Constructed during the Meiji Period the canal was originally designed for the transportation of lake water for drinking, irrigation and industrial purposes, but also provided for the conveyance of waterborne freight and passenger traffic. From 1895 water from the canal supported Japan's first hydroelectric power facility, providing electricity for industry, street lighting and Kyoto's tram system. In 1996 the canal was recognized as a nationally designated Historic Site.While no longer used as a navigable waterway for freight, the waterway continues to provide water for drinking and irrigation purposes to the city of Kyoto as well as hydroelectric power through the 4.5MW Phase III Keage power station. Locations along the canal route and associated irrigation structures such as the former Keage Incline, the Nanzen-ji aqueduct and Philosopher's Walk, have become popular sightseeing destinations.

The site was designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1957.

The Sūfuku-ji temple ruins (崇福寺跡, Sūfuku ato) is an archaeological site with the ruins of a late Asuka through Muromachi period Buddhist temple located in the Shigasato neighborhood of the city of ŌtsuShiga Prefecture, in the Kansai region of Japan. The site was designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1941, and some of the artifacts recovered from the site are collectively designated as a National Treasure. and some of the artifacts recovered from the site are collectively designated as a National Treasure.
