Minsterley

Minsterley railway station was a terminus station in Minsterley, Shropshire, England. The station was opened in 1861 and closed in 1951.

Malehurst is a hamlet in Shropshire, England between the large villages of Pontesbury and Minsterley and north of the small village of Asterley. It is within the civil parish of Pontesbury. The Rea Brook flows around Malehurst and the Minsterley Brook flows into the Rea Brook here. There is an industrial estate that accommodates a number of small businesses. There is also a highly successful dairy farm. There was a lead smelting house at Malehurst, operated with a Boulton and Watt steam engine, between 1778 and it is going out of use by 1831. A barytes-processing plant was established at Malehurst Mill in c.1910, linked by an aerial ropeway to a mine at Huglith, until 1949 when the ropeway was taken down. The buildings became used to mill animal foodstuffs.

Asterley is a village in Shropshire, England. Its name, derived from Old English, means "the eastern clearing in the forest".It was historically a township of the large parish of Pontesbury, and is still part of the civil parish of Pontesbury. It consists of some 50 houses, including some timber- and cruck-framed dwellings.There are four farms operating within the village and an equestrian estate. There is a brick former Church of England mission church in the village, built in 1869 but a private house since about 1990,. Its churchyard contains the graves of two World War II soldiers who both died in 1940, which are registered and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.There is a functioning Methodist chapel which is part of the Shropshire and Marches Methodist Circuit. Eight of the Methodist churches in the area voted on 15 July 2019 to become an amalgamation of chapels to be called Rea Valley Methodist Churches keeping each chapel operational as a cooperative. In this new Methodist Society, Asterley will become a Celebration Chapel and offer special worship services four to five times a year. The chapel was built in 1834. A stone World War I memorial tablet is next to its entrance door outside and indoors is a framed Roll of Honour to local men who died in World War II. The village had a small and possibly shortlived Latter Day Saints congregation in 1851.The village has had two pubs, The Royal Oak and The Windmill Inn, a shop and a school house which are all now private houses. In the 18th and 19th centuries the village was the centre of a small-scale coal mining and brick-making industry. It has a long established connection with farming with many established farmhouses being present in the village an immediate surroundings. In 1944, a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter crashed in what was a deep pond which was originally a marl pit. The pilot survived by jumping by parachute from the stricken aircraft. The aircraft remains buried in the now dried out and filled in pond.Outside the village is a rare survival, a windmill built in 1809. It was restored in the 1980s.

Snailbeach Countryside Site is an industrial archeology site in Shropshire. It is located three 3 miles (4.8 km) south of the village of Pontesbury and around 12 miles (19 km) from the county town of Shrewsbury. At peak of production during the 19th century, it was reputed to be extracting the largest volume of lead per acre in Europe.

Eastridge Mountain Bike Trail Centre is a free mountain biking venue in Shropshire, UK. The venue is developed and maintained by volunteers, and features a mixture of blue, red and black graded trails. There are also a number of steep, technical off-piste trails. Since 1991 Eastridge Woods have been used to host Downhill and XC mountain biking events since the 90's hosted the British National Mountain biking Championships in 1993,1994,1995,1996 and 1999.

Poles Coppice countryside site is an area of ancient oak woodland with disused quarry workings, located around 0.5 miles (1 km) south of Pontesbury, Shropshire. It is managed by Shropshire Council as a picnic spot and area for walking and recreation activities.

Habberley is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Pontesbury, in the Shropshire district, in the ceremonial county of Shropshire, England. Habberley lies near the Stiperstones southwest of the town of Shrewsbury. Formerly a small (325 acres (132 ha)) civil parish in its own right Habberley was merged in to the Pontesbury civil parish on 1 April 1967. Its main amenities are a small Anglican church (St Mary's), a public house (The Mytton Arms), and village hall. In 1824 its population was recorded as 151 - by 1961 this had declined to 66 but residential development such as the conversion of redundant farm buildings has seen it rise again to about 100 residents in 2012. Mary Webb, the romantic novelist, called the place and surrounding district 'Bitterley' in her 1916 novel The Golden Arrow.

Pontesbury ( PONTS-bər-ee) is a village and civil parish in Shropshire, and is approximately eight miles southwest of Shrewsbury. In the 2011 census, the village had a population of 1,873 and the parish had a population of 3,227. The village of Minsterley is just over a mile further southwest. The A488 road runs through the village, on its way from Shrewsbury to Bishop's Castle. The Rea Brook flows close by to the north with the village itself nestling on the northern edge of the Shropshire Hills AONB. Shropshire County Council in their current Place Plan detail the development strategy and refer to Pontesbury and neighbouring Minsterley as towns.

Mary Webb School and Science College is a coeducational secondary school located in Pontesbury, Shropshire, England. Founded in 1957, it was originally titled Pontesbury Secondary Modern School. In 1977, following the abolition of the tripartite system, the school became a comprehensive school. The Mary Webb School, named after the novelist and poet of the same name, was designated a specialist Science College in 2003. Previously a community school administered by Shropshire Council, in January 2019 Mary Webb School converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the Central Shropshire Academy Trust.

Stoney Stretton is a hamlet in Shropshire, England, west of Shrewsbury. It is situated just off the B4386 road (a Roman Road, hence the settlement's name "Stretton") between the villages of Yockleton and Westbury. It lies in the civil parish of Westbury. To the northwest, by the Shrewsbury to Welshpool railway, is the dispersed hamlet of Stretton Heath.
