The Yorkshire dialect (also known as Broad Yorkshire, Tyke, Yorkie, or Yorkshire English) is a dialect of English, or continuum of dialects, spoken in the Yorkshire region of Northern England. The dialect has roots in Old English and is influenced by Old Norse. The Yorkshire dialect has faded and faces extinction, but organisations such as The Yorkshire Dialect Society and the East Riding Dialect Society exist to promote its use. The dialect has been represented in classic works of literature such as Wuthering Heights, Nicholas Nickleby and The Secret Garden, and linguists have documented variations of the dialect since the nineteenth century. In the mid-twentieth century, the Survey of English Dialects collected dozens of valuable recordings of authentic Yorkshire dialects.

Embsay Reservoir is located above the village of Embsay, near Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales in North Yorkshire, England. It is owned by Yorkshire Water, and supplies water to the north and west of Skipton, feeding 25,000 homes. It has a dam height of 24 m (79 ft).

Embsay Priory was a medieval monastic house in North Yorkshire, England. The priory was founded in 1120 in Embsay at Wharfedale. It was dedicated to St Mary and St Cuthbert and was part of the Augustinian order. William de Meschines and his wife Cecily endowed the priory and the churches in Skipton and Carleton.In 1154, the priory was moved to Bolton Abbey, which is 5 mi (8 km) east. However, a small group of canons remained until the Dissolution of the Monasteries. St Mary the Virgin's Church (Embsay with Eastby) stands on the site of the former priory.

Upper Barden Reservoir is an upland fresh water reservoir, one of two reservoirs that collect water from Barden Moor, and dam Barden Beck, a tributary of the River Wharfe in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire, England. The reservoir was opened in 1882 and also supplies fresh water to the Nidd Aqueduct, which transports it to Bradford. Upper Barden Reservoir was the second of the reservoirs to be built, (Lower Barden opened in 1860). The embankment of the dam head is 125 feet (38 m) high, which at the time of its construction, was the highest in England, and notable for being one of the first to use concrete.

Embsay railway station is a railway station on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. It serves the small village of Embsay in North Yorkshire, England. The station is a terminus on the railway and was re-opened in 1981.

The Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway (E&BASR) is a heritage railway in North Yorkshire, England, formed in 1979 and opened in 1981. The preserved railway was part of the former Midland Railway route from Skipton to Ilkley which was closed down by British Railways in 1965 over 15 years before the reopening of part of the line. The E&BASR currently runs for a total distance of 4 miles (6 km) from Embsay via Draughton Sidings, Holywell and Stoneacre Loop to Bolton Abbey station and carries around 100,000 passengers a year.The long-term objectives of the railway are extensions of the line in both directions, eastwards to the West Yorkshire village of Addingham and southwest towards the North Yorkshire market town of Skipton.

Embsay is a village in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. It is paired with the neighbouring hamlet of Eastby to form the civil parish of Embsay with Eastby. The parish population as of the 2011 census was 1,871.

Embsay with Eastby is a civil parish and electoral ward in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. Its main settlements are the village of Embsay and the nearby hamlet of Eastby. According to the 2001 UK census, Embsay with Eastby parish/ward had a population of 1,758, increasing to 1,871 at the 2011 Census.Embsay Reservoir is within the parish.

Skipton Golf Club is a golf club located within the English county of North Yorkshire. Founded within 1893, the club was originally located a short distance away in the village of Gargrave before moving to its present site just outside the market town of Skipton in 1896. Eller Beck meanders through the back nine holes, where it acts as a water hazard. In June 2015, work started on the construction of a flood storage reservoir for the beck, which will protect residents in Skipton from flooding, but has a large impact on the golf course. When the scheme was first proposed, the golf club was one of the main objectors to it, as it would require alterations to the 16th and 17th holes, and during a flood event, when water from the beck was impounded in the reservoir, three further holes would be under water. However, agreement was reached on remodelling the golf course following consultation.

Skipton Wood (also known as Skipton Castle Woods, Castle Wood or Springs Wood) is a 36-acre (15 ha) wood following the valley of Eller Beck to the north of Skipton behind Skipton Castle in North Yorkshire, England. The wood is owned by Skipton Castle but has been leased to the Woodland Trust.

Thorpe Fell Top is the top of the hill of Burnsall and Thorpe Fell in the Yorkshire Dales, itself forming part of a larger wedge of ground between Wharfedale and Skipton. The summit of this grouse moor is 506 metres above sea level and topped with a trig point. It was listed in Alan Dawson's "The Relative Hills of Britain" as a Marilyn. However, a number of recent observations and measurements suggest that the base of the war memorial at the top of Cracoe Fell (SD993588) some 1.7 km (1.1 mi) to the south-west, is probably higher, perhaps as high as 510 metres. Thorpe Fell Top is probably most easily visited from either Thorpe or Burnsall. The track and path marked on Ordnance Survey maps to the north and west of the summit continues all the way to the top of Cracoe Fell. The latter can also be reached along Fell Lane from the village of Cracoe.

Skipton Castle is a Grade I Listed medieval castle in Skipton, North Yorkshire, England. It was built in 1090 by Robert de Romille, a Norman baron, and has been preserved for over 931 years.
