Neshanic Mills is a 5-acre (2.0 ha) historic district on the South Branch Raritan River along River Road and Mill Lane at Neshanic Station in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 9, 1978, for its significance in engineering, industry, transportation, and settlement. It includes 4 contributing buildings and 2 contributing structures.

Neshanic Station is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Branchburg and extending into Hillsborough Township, Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. In 2016 most of the village was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Neshanic Station Historic District.

The Huff House and Farmstead is a historic 2-acre (0.81 ha) property located on River Road at the South Branch Raritan River near the Flagtown section of Hillsborough Township in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. The Huff House was built in 1842 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 7, 1976, for its significance in agriculture and politics/government.

Sourland Mountain is a 17 miles (27 km) long ridge in central New Jersey, U.S., extending from the Delaware River at Lambertville to the western end of Hillsborough Township near the community of Neshanic, through Montgomery Township and into Hopewell Township in Mercer County. It comprises the largest contiguous forest in Central Jersey, nearly 90 square miles (233 km2) in area. The highest point is only 568 feet (173 m) above sea level, but the way it rises steeply from the surrounding farmland has earned it the title of 'mountain'. The ridge itself sits within a larger area of rough terrain called The Sourlands.

Pleasant Run is a tributary of the South Branch Raritan River in central New Jersey in the United States. Pleasant Run is approximately 7 miles (11 km) in length, running from its headwaters near Cushetunk Mountain, a plutonic intrusion of igneous rock surrounding Round Valley Reservoir, through Readington and Branchburg, to its convergence with the South Branch Raritan River near River Road in Branchburg. Pleasant Run was originally called Campbell's Brook after John Campbell of Piscataway. Campbell in 1685, was granted a strip of land extending west from the South Branch and which surrounded Pleasant Run.

The Sourland Mountain Preserve is located on Sourland Mountain, in the Sourlands region of New Jersey. It is within Hillsborough Township and Montgomery Township of Somerset County. The largest donation of land was made by Norma Gilbert Farr, trustee of the Linus R. Gilbert Foundation. The Farr family has donated over 3,000 acres to the Sourland Mountain Preserve and the Somerset County Parks Commission.

Students from Millstone attend the district's schools, originally as part of a sending/receiving relationship; the New Jersey commissioner of education merged Millstone's non-operating school district with the Hillsborough Township School District, effective July 1, 2009.As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of nine schools, had an enrollment of 7,288 students and 596.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.2:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. Hillsborough Township is a township in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Located in the Raritan Valley region, the township is a suburban and exurban bedroom community of New York City within the New York Metropolitan Area. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 43,276, an increase of 4,973 (+13.0%) from the 2010 census count of 38,303, which in turn reflected an increase of 1,669 (+4.6%) from the 36,634 counted in the 2000 census.Hillsborough Township was originally created by royal charter issued May 31, 1771, which was revoked and revised on September 12, 1771. It was incorporated on February 21, 1798 by the New Jersey Legislature Township Act of 1798 as one of New Jersey's original group of 104 townships. Portions of the township were taken to form the boroughs of Millstone (May 14, 1894) and Manville (April 1, 1929). The township's name may have come from an earlier name of "Hillsbury", though it may have been named for Wills Hill, 1st Marquess of Downshire who was the Earl of Hillsborough. Based upon one analysis of data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report for 2022, Hillsborough Township was ranked as the second-safest small city in the United States.
