The Hillsborough Township School District is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Hillsborough Township in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. Students from Millstone attend the district's schools, originally as part of a sending/receiving relationship; the New Jersey commissioner of education merged Millstone's non-operating school district with the Hillsborough Township School District, effective July 1, 2009.As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of nine schools, had an enrollment of 7,288 students and 596.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.2:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

Hillsborough High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Hillsborough Township in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the lone secondary school of the Hillsborough Township School District. Students from Millstone also attend the school, after Millstone was integrated into the Hillsborough district, prior to which they had attended as part of a sending/receiving relationship.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,351 students and 171.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.7:1. There were 108 students (4.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 52 (2.2% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Hillsborough is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the center of Hillsborough Township, Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.The CDP is in south-central Somerset County and is bordered to the northwest by Flagtown, to the west by Neshanic, and to the south by Belle Mead. U.S. Route 206 passes through the community, leading north 5 miles (8 km) to Somerville, the county seat, and south 12 miles (19 km) to Princeton.

Flounder Brewing Company is a microbrewery in Hillsborough in Somerset County, New Jersey. Started by Jeremy Lees as a homebrewing hobby, it grew to encompass other members of the family including his brothers, Daniel and Michael, and his cousin William. The brewery opened to the public in October 2013, and was first sold to the public at the Fox and Hound Tavern in Lebanon, New Jersey. It was New Jersey's 12th Limited Brewery license and one of the first nano scale breweries in New Jersey, producing an estimated 50 barrels of beer per year.In June of 2021 the brewery moved operations to a renovated 250 year old Dutch Barn and 150 year old English Barn. The expansion included adding a 15 barrel brewhouse and now features a 100 person capacity tasting barn with mezzanine as well as two outdoor beer gardens.

The Sourland Mountain Preserve is located on Sourland Mountain, in the Sourlands region of New Jersey. It is within Hillsborough Township and Montgomery Township of Somerset County. The largest donation of land was made by Norma Gilbert Farr, trustee of the Linus R. Gilbert Foundation. The Farr family has donated over 3,000 acres to the Sourland Mountain Preserve and the Somerset County Parks Commission.

Sourland Mountain is a 17 miles (27 km) long ridge in central New Jersey, U.S., extending from the Delaware River at Lambertville to the western end of Hillsborough Township near the community of Neshanic, through Montgomery Township and into Hopewell Township in Mercer County. It comprises the largest contiguous forest in Central Jersey, nearly 90 square miles (233 km2) in area. The highest point is only 568 feet (173 m) above sea level, but the way it rises steeply from the surrounding farmland has earned it the title of 'mountain'. The ridge itself sits within a larger area of rough terrain called The Sourlands.
