Elk Neck State Park

Elk Neck Peninsula is in Cecil County, Maryland, between the towns of Elkton and North East, Maryland. Native American and colonial travelers often canoed or sailed up the Chesapeake Bay to Elkton, where the Elk River became unnavigable, and then walked or took some form of surface transportation to the Delaware Bay watershed, since this was the shortest surface crossing. Native Americans of the area, including the Nanticoke and Lenni Lenape, hunted and fished, as well as established semi-permanent camps. Elk Neck State Park includes the southern tip of the peninsula, bounded by the North East River, Elk River, as well as the Chesapeake Bay. Maryland Route 272 ends at the point of the peninsula, with the famous Turkey Point Light. Much of the peninsula's land is legally protected from development, either as part of the state park or as part of Elk Neck State Forest. Deep forests, bluffs, beaches and marshlands are the primary natural features of the park's landscape.

The Turkey Point Light is a historic lighthouse at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Although only a 35-foot (11 m) tower, the 100-foot (30 m) height of the bluffs on which it stands makes it the third highest light off the water in the bay. It is also known for the large number of women who served as lightkeeper.

Crystal Beach (also known as White Crystal Beach) is an unincorporated community in Cecil County, Maryland, United States.Crystal Beach is a partnership between two brothers of the Green family. Kenneth "Gene" Eugene Green and Alfred "Dickie" Ernest Green (1933–2010). The community is inhabited seasonally with the majority of its inhabitants calling the Delaware Valley area their home. There are many large families there who have been frequenting the small private beach community for generations. Within the past five years, a small group of members have begun to coordinate events for the community to help raise funds to improve the quality of life at the small resort area. It is a prime location for boating and sunbathing. White Crystal Beach was founded in the mid-1930s by Alfred Ernest Green and his wife Ethel Pearsey Green at the site of Reybold's Wharf. The Green family had formerly owned a traveling carnival, then small amusement parks in Wilmington, Delaware, Penns Grove, New Jersey, and Charlestown, Maryland. The Green family created a summer-only, private rental resort on the Elk River and named it "White Crystal Beach". The Green family built bathhouses, a dance hall, beer garden, bowling alley, and even a tattoo parlor. Children's amusement park rides and an antique merry-go-round were brought from the traveling carnival, and a few dozen simple wooden cottages were built as rental units. Ernest and Ethel brought in their son Kenneth Green (wife Edna) and daughter Ella Green Crump to help run the concessions and manage the business. Eventually they were joined by their grandchildren, William, Dorcas, and Alfred Crump, along with "Gene", "Dickie", "Betty", and "Margie" Green, who all worked in various aspects of the family business. Alfred Ernest Green died in the late 1940s, and the management was passed on to his son Kenneth Green. The early 1950s brought some changes with damage from Hurricane Hazel in 1954, and a devastating fire in 1955. Ethel Green and her daughter Ella Green Crump Spence bought the farm property abutting the northern property line to renovate for their retirement, but Ella died in 1957, and Ethel retired to her second home in Florida, where she died in 1959. The farm property was passed to Ella's children and became "Elkview Shores". White Crystal Beach was then owned by Kenneth and Edna Green and managed with the help of their two sons, Kenneth "Gene" Green and Alfred "Dickie" Green.Alfred "Dickie" Green died in January 2010.

Red Point is an unincorporated community located just off Maryland Route 272 south of North East, Maryland, United States. It is near Elk Neck State Park, where the North East River enters Chesapeake Bay. The neighborhood is a mix of seasonal and full-time residents. In the past several years the residents have worked to improve the area, paving and patching streets, renovating existing homes, and even tearing down some older cottages and replacing them with newly constructed homes. Several members of the community have been investing time, effort and money into trying to decrease the erosion of the banks into the Chesapeake Bay. Situated on the bay with its private beach, boat ramp and pier provides frequent sightings of Bald Eagles, Osprey and herons feeding on the fish. The community association sponsors an annual Fourth of July picnic complete with a pig roast and pot luck lunch. Several residents work together over the winter to construct a quilt that is raffled off at the picnic to raise money for community projects. Many neighborhood vehicles display the oval "RP" (Red Point) stickers as a symbol of pride in the community. The preferred method of transportation during warm weather months is golf carts, especially for carrying people and gear to the beach. The Elk River is a tidal tributary of the Chesapeake Bay on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and on the northern edge of the Delmarva Peninsula. It is about 15 miles (24 km) long. As the most northeastern extension of the Chesapeake Bay estuary, it has served as one entrance to the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal since the 19th century. The canal and river now serve as one boundary of the Elk Neck Peninsula. The river flows through Cecil County, Maryland, with its watershed extending into New Castle County, Delaware and Chester County, Pennsylvania. Elkton, the county seat of Cecil County, is located at its head. Its total watershed area is 143 square miles (370 km2) (including the Bohemia River), with 21 square miles (54 km2) of open water, so its watershed is 15% open water. It is south and east of the North East River, and north of the Sassafras River.

The Bohemia River is a 4.7-mile-long (7.6 km) tributary of the Elk River on the Delmarva Peninsula. It is located in Cecil County, Maryland, with its headwaters extending into New Castle County, Delaware. The Bohemia River begins east of Hacks Point, Maryland, where its two major tributaries, Great Bohemia Creek and Little Bohemia Creek, come together, and ends at the Elk River in a wide mouth between Town Point and Ford Landing. Great Bohemia Creek and its tributary, Sandy Branch rise near Middletown, Delaware and Little Bohemia Creek rises near Warwick, Maryland. They flow through the level coastal plain, quickly reaching sea level. Several small creeks are on the northern shore, including Pooles Creek and Manor Creek. On the southern shore small creeks include Morgan Creek and Scotchman Creek. The Bohemia River was once known as the Oppoquimimi River, as Native Americans knew it. The river was renamed by Augustine Herman after Bohemia, the country of his birth.

Carpenter's Point is an unincorporated community in Cecil County, Maryland, United States. Carpenter Point was the site of the first permanent settlement in Cecil County, established on July 20, 1658, when William Carpenter patented 400 acres (1.6 km2) of land called Anna Catherine Neck, abutting Bay Head Creek, now Principio Creek; Simon Carpenter was assigned this tract of land in 1662. On June 7, 1674, a court was held at the house of Francis Wright at Carpenter’s Point. A painting by the noted painter James Peale titled “The Ramsay-Polk Family at Carpenter’s Point, Cecil County, Maryland” shows the landing in the background in the 18th century.

The North East River is a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Entirely tidal, it extends for about 5.0 miles (8.0 km) from the town of North East southwest past Charlestown to the main body of Chesapeake Bay between Carpenter's Point and Red Point. The river is fed by North East Creek and its tributaries, which reach as far north as just east of Nottingham, Pennsylvania. The Northeast River is entirely within Cecil County, Maryland, though its watershed extends into Chester County, Pennsylvania. Its watershed area in MD (excluding water) is 63 square miles (160 km2), with 6% impervious surface in 1994. On the 1612 John Smith map, it was referred to as Gunter's Harbour.

Earleville Wildlife Management Area is a Wildlife Management Area in Cecil County, Maryland. The area is managed as a hunting area for upland game.

St. Stephen's Episcopal Church is a historic Episcopal church located in Earleville, Cecil County, Maryland. North Sassafras Parish, as it was originally known, was one of the original 30 Anglican parishes in the Province of Maryland, named for its location north of the Sassafras River which separated Cecil County from Kent County, Maryland. On June 22, 1834, this parish hosted the ordination as an Episcopal deacon by bishop William Murray Stone of William Douglass, a Methodist preacher who then became the second rector of the historic African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas in Philadelphia (after Absalom Jones), where the African American abolitionist was ordained as a priest and served until his death in 1862. The current church has a single-story rectangular stuccoed brick main block, three bays by three, resting on a partially excavated fieldstone foundation and covered by a steeply pitched slate roof. It features a 4-story bell tower with broach spire and patterned slate roof. This Gothic Revival structure was built in 1870–1874 but incorporated the walls of the earlier churches of 1824 and 1735. A graveyard surrounds the structure. The structure was designed by Thomas Dixon, a Baltimore architect.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Charlestown Historic District is a national historic district at Charlestown, Cecil County, Maryland, United States. It consists of a 150-acre (0.61 km2) portion of the town containing all known existing 18th century features. There are 14 houses known to have been constructed during that century and its largest structures were the inns and hotels which served the popular Charlestown Fair in the colonial period.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Indian Queen Tavern and Black's Store is a historic hotel and store complex located at Charlestown, Cecil County, Maryland, USA. It consists of two mid-18th century structures: Black's Store, originally the Red Lyon Inn, and the Indian Queen Tavern, later called Hotel. The two taverns and their remaining outbuildings form a court. The outbuildings include a log kitchen with a loft and a two-story smokehouse.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
