Hopkinton, Rhode Island

Hopkinton City Historic District is a historic district encompassing the town center of Hopkinton, Rhode Island. The district is centered on the junction of Rhode Island Route 3 with Woodville Road, Clark Falls Road, Townhouse Road, and Old Rockville Road. It is a relatively modest town center, with twenty residences, two church buildings (one of which is no longer used as a church), the town hall, and post office. The most imposing house in the district is the Thurston-Wells House, a c. 1800 structure which was given a Victorian treatment in the mid-19th century; it stands opposite the 1836 Greek Revival First Baptist Church. The area was a major stop on the stagecoach route (now Route 3), and was eclipsed in the 20th century by the construction of Interstate 95, which passes nearby.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Hopkinton is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washington County, Rhode Island, United States, comprising the central village in the town of Hopkinton. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. The village is also known as Hopkinton City, and the center of the village comprises the Hopkinton City Historic District. Hopkinton village is on the western edge of Washington County, in the west-central part of the town of Hopkinton. Its western border is the Connecticut state line. Rhode Island Route 3 passes through the center of the village, leading northeast 4 miles (6 km) to Hope Valley, the largest village in the town of Hopkinton, and south 3 miles (5 km) to Ashaway, the second-largest village. Interstate 95 runs through the southeast part of the Hopkinton CDP, with access from Exit 1 with Route 3 between Hopkinton village and Ashaway. I-95 leads northeast 36 miles (58 km) to Providence, the state capital, and southwest 19 miles (31 km) to New London, Connecticut.

The Tomaquag Rock Shelters (RI-HP-1) are a prehistoric rock shelter site off Maxson Hill Road (formerly Burdickville Road) in Hopkinton, Rhode Island. The shelters are located under two east-facing granite outcrops in the valley drained by Tomaquag Brook. Nathan Kaye discovered the shelters in the late 1950s. Materials recovered from test excavations resulted in dating one shelter to 800 BC and the other to AD 800. Materials recovered include projectile points, stone knives, and evidence of stone tool construction. Both sites included evidence pointing to the presence of a fire pit.The shelters were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.In 1982, Nathan Kaye gave the shelters to the State of Rhode Island. In 1996, the State Properties Committee entered into a "Park Use Agreement" with the Town of Hopkinton to preserve the shelter site. The Hopkinton Planning Board entered a requirement that the cultural aspects of the shelter be protected in a Master Plan agreement with the developers of a proposed solar farm across the road from the site on January 4, 2019.

The Ashaway River is a river in the U.S. states of Rhode Island and Connecticut. It flows approximately 4 km (2 mi). There are three dams along the river's length.

WLWC (channel 28) is a television station licensed to New Bedford, Massachusetts, United States, serving the Providence, Rhode Island area as an affiliate of Court TV. Owned by Inyo Broadcast Holdings, the station shares transmitter facilities with former sister WPXQ-TV (channel 69) on Champlin Hill in Ashaway, Rhode Island. WLWC is one of two major stations (along with ABC affiliate WLNE-TV, channel 6) that serve Providence despite being licensed to the Massachusetts side of the market.

Ashaway () is an unincorporated village and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Hopkinton, Rhode Island, USA. It is a principal village of Hopkinton, along with Hope Valley, although it is the smaller of the two. The population was 1,485 at the 2010 census. The name Ashaway is derived from the American Indian name for the river that runs through the village, the Ashawague or Ashawaug, which means "land in the middle" or "land between" in the Niantic and Mohegan languages. The name "Ashawague River" appears as late as 1832 on the Findley map of Rhode Island published in Philadelphia.

Ell Pond is a kettle hole in Hopkinton, Washington County, Rhode Island. It is surrounded by a swamp of red maple and Atlantic white cypress, and by steep granitic monadnocks. The small area contains communities of both hydrophytic and xeric plants, which makes it ideal for ecological research and education. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in May 1974. In 1972, The Nature Conservancy purchased 50 acres (20 ha) including the pond to extend 218 acres (88 ha) of protected land owned by the Audubon Society of Rhode Island and the 1,002 acres (405 ha) of Rockville Wildlife Management Area owned by the state. The preserve is jointly managed by all three entities. There are hiking trails in the preserve, but Ell pond is specifically not reachable due to its fragile environment.

Canonchet is a small village in the town of Hopkinton in the U.S. state of Rhode Island.The hamlet developed as a mill village in the nineteenth century, generally centered on a mile segment of Canonchet Road. It was previously called Asheville (or Ashville). The "Canonchet Village Historic District" includes the main stretch of the community on Canonchet Road. The community is located due northeast of the center of Hopkinton and both Interstate 95 and Rhode Island Route 3 run through it. Interstate 95's Exit 2 is located in Canonchet. Canonchet is also the name of a Narragansett sachem in the area who was executed during King Philip's War. 1920 U.S. Census data listed the village's population as 124.

Black Farm, also known as the Isaac Collins Farm, is a historic farm in Hopkinton, Rhode Island bounded by Woodville Alton Road (Rhode Island Route 112) and Wood Road. The 264-acre (107 ha) plot was developed by John Collins beginning in 1710 and saw agricultural use for over 200 years. The main house dates to the late 18th century, and is a 1-1/2 story gambrel-roofed post-and-beam structure. Outbuildings include 19th century barns, a corn crib, and a guest cottage added in the 1930s. Set some distance off from this complex is the foundational remains of what was probably an ice house; it consists of granite blocks and is eight feet high.The state of Rhode Island purchased the farm in 1991. A lot containing the farmstead complex was sold into private hands with a preservation easement, and the rest of the farm property is now conservation land. The farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

Woodville is a small village in the towns of Richmond and Hopkinton in the U.S. state of Rhode Island.

Yawgoog Scout Reservation (Camp Yawgoog) is a 1,800-acre (7 km2) reservation for scouting located in Rockville, Rhode Island and operated by the Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Founded in 1916, Yawgoog is the fifth oldest Boy Scout camp in the United States. At the camp is run an eight-week camping program every summer where Boy Scouts stay for a week with their troops. The reservation is divided into three camps: Three Point, Medicine Bow, and Sandy Beach.

WSUB-LP (96.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to the community of Ashaway, Rhode Island. It serves the greater Westerly, Rhode Island, region as well as South Kingstown, Rhode Island, and Southeastern Connecticut. The station is owned by The Buzz Alternative Radio Foundation, Inc. It airs an alternative rock format. The station has been assigned the WSUB-LP call letters by the Federal Communications Commission since February 9, 2011, and is branded "96.7 The Buzz."
