Robertsbridge

Robertsbridge railway station is on the Hastings line in the south of England and serves the village of Robertsbridge, East Sussex. It is 49 miles 47 chains (79.8 km) down the line from London Charing Cross. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Southeastern.

Robertsbridge Junction is the terminus of the Rother Valley Railway, the extension of the Kent and East Sussex Railway from Bodiam to Robertsbridge. Because the original bay platform at Robertsbridge station cannot be used as this is network rail owned property, a new station is under construction next to the old sidings (now a car park). The platform has been built and the toilets are under construction. However, the full station building is still to be built, with further structures planned. The connection to the Network Rail (NR) mainline was re-established in March 2015 to permit stock transfers, and use of the RVR by NR plant for training and other purposes. A small shop and visitor centre on the site is open to the public each Sunday, utilising a building that was formerly the London terminus of the Orient Express. A small collection of rolling stock is also stored here, with several items undergoing active restoration. A gala weekend in September 2013 saw a steam passenger train operating at Robertsbridge for the first time since the early 1960s.

Bethel Strict Baptist Chapel (also described as Bethel Calvinist Chapel) is a former place of worship for Strict Baptists in Robertsbridge, a village in the district of Rother in the English county of East Sussex. Partly hidden behind ancient buildings on the village High Street, the simple brick chapel was erected in 1842 on the initiative of James Weller, a "somewhat remarkable man" whose preaching had attracted large audiences across Kent and East Sussex in the previous decade. The Strict Baptist cause was historically strong in East Sussex, and Protestant Nonconformism thrived in Robertsbridge, which was distant from the nearest Anglican parish church. The chapel closed in about 1999, and permission was granted for its conversion into a house. English Heritage has designated it a Grade II Listed building.

The Seven Stars Inn is a 14th-century public house in Robertsbridge, East Sussex, a well-preserved example of a medieval building and a typical Sussex village pub. It is associated with historical events, both real and rumoured. As of at least autumn 2016, it was closed for business.

Robertsbridge United Reformed Church (originally Robertsbridge Congregational Chapel) is a former United Reformed Church place of worship in Robertsbridge, a village in the district of Rother in the English county of East Sussex. Built for Congregational worshippers in 1881 following their secession from a long-established Wesleyan Methodist chapel, it was the third Nonconformist place of worship in the village, whose nearest parish church was in the neighbouring settlement of Salehurst. Like the former Strict Baptist and Methodist chapels in the village, which have both closed, it no longer serves Robertsbridge as a place of worship. Local architect Thomas Elworthy's distinctive design—a "rich" and highly decorated blend of several styles—has divided opinion amongst architectural historians. English Heritage has listed the church at Grade II for its architectural and historical importance.

Robertsbridge Community College is a coeducational secondary school located in Robertsbridge in the English county of East Sussex.It was established in 1955 as Robertsbridge County Secondary School, and was renamed Robertsbridge Community College in 1993. Today, it is a community school administered by East Sussex County Council. In 2020 the school opened a SEND unit for pupils with Autism and other learning disabilities. The school was graded 'Good' in its most recent (2022) Ofsted report.Robertsbridge Community College offers GCSEs, BTECs and NCFE awards as programmes of study for pupils. Pupils can also participate in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme.

Salehurst and Robertsbridge is a civil parish in the Rother district, in the county of East Sussex, England. The parish lies entirely within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The parish includes the villages of Robertsbridge, Salehurst and Northbridge Street. On 1 April 2000 the parish was renamed from "Salehurst" to "Salehurst & Robertsbridge".

Salehurst is a village in the Rother district of East Sussex, England, within the civil parish of Salehurst and Robertsbridge. It lies immediately to the north-east of the larger village of Robertsbridge, on a minor road; it is approximately thirteen miles (21 km) north of Hastings, just east of the A21 road. In historical terms Salehurst is much older than its neighbour; before the bridge over the River Rother was built it already existed, and it is named in the Domesday Book. At the time the river crossing was by ford or ferry, but in the 12th century a newly established order of Cistercian monks constructed the bridge, and the two settlements of Robertsbridge and Northbridge Street came into being; eventually - since the main road now bypassed the village - becoming much more important than Salehurst.Salehurst lies approximately three miles from Bodiam, Sussex, site of Bodiam Castle. One owner of Bodiam Castle was the Levett family, who lived at Salehurst during their 'occupation' of the castle. In 1588 John Levett of Salehurst contributed to the Armada loan, and in 1607 his sons John and Thomas of Salehurst were regranted by the College of Arms their right to the Levett coat of arms issued to their Sussex ancestors.John Colepeper, 1st Baron Colepeper (ca.1600–1660) was an English peer, military officer and politician who, as Chancellor of the Exchequer (1642–43) and Master of the Rolls (1643) was an influential counsellor of King Charles I during the English Civil War. His family came from Wigsell in the parish of Salehurst.

Robertsbridge Abbey was a Cistercian abbey in Robertsbridge, East Sussex, England. It was founded in 1176 by Alured and Alicia de St Martin. Due to its position, the Abbey lands suffered continually from the effects of the sea, and it was never rich or prominent. The abbey was eventually forcibly surrendered in 1538 by the abbot Thomas Taylor, and dissolved as part of the Dissolution of the Monasteries. There were then eight monks. The property afterwards passed to Sir William Sydney.The main surviving part of the Abbey is the Abbot's house, built circa 1250, formerly a farmhouse but now part of a private residence. The building is mainly of stone rubble with some red brick and brick buttresses at the back, weather-boarded at the gable end with a steeply-pitched tiled roof. Beneath the building is a crypt. The house is a grade I listed building.In the garden of the house are the ruins of a rectangular building of stone rubble which was part of the Frater which are separately grade II* listed.

Glottenham Castle was a castle in Mountfield, East Sussex, around 5 miles (8 km) north of Battle Abbey. Built in the 13th century, it was abandoned in the late 16th or 17th century.

Salehurst Halt was a halt station on the Kent and East Sussex Railway which served the village of Salehurst in East Sussex, England. The station was reached by a footpath leading south from the village church in Salehurst. Closed in 1954, Salehurst Halt may yet see trains again as the Rother Valley Railway, a preservation society, is proposing to reopen the line from Robertsbridge to Bodiam, including the line through the halt.

Haremere Hall is a Grade I listed Jacobean building near Etchingham, East Sussex.
