Preston Montford

Montford is a small village and parish in Shropshire, England. The village lies near the A5 road, on the north bank of the River Severn and is 3 miles north-west of the town of Shrewsbury. At the parish church of St Chad, Robert Waring Darwin, the father of the naturalist Charles Darwin, and Susannah Darwin, his mother, are buried in the churchyard, as is Charles' sister Susan. Indoors are two parish war memorials, a marble tablet commemorating the First World War dead, and a three-light east window commemorating those of the Second World War.The parish includes the larger villages of Montford Bridge and Shrawardine.

The River Perry is a river in Shropshire, England. It rises near Oswestry and flows south to meet the River Severn above Shrewsbury. Along its 24 miles (39 km) length, its level drops by some 320 feet (95 m). The channel has been heavily engineered, both to enable water mills to be powered by it, and to improve the drainage of the surrounding land. There were at least seven corn mills in the 1880s, and the last one remained operational until 1966. The middle section of the river crosses Baggy Moor, where major improvements were made in 1777 to drain the moor. The scheme was one of the largest to enclose and improve land in North Shropshire, and the quality of the reclaimed land justified the high cost. A section of the river bed was lowered in the 1980s, to continue the process. The river is crossed by the Llangollen Canal, and by several bridges which are on the Listed Buildings register. It has formerly suffered from pollution, both from the discharge of poorly treated sewage from two treatment works, and from effluent from factories producing dairy products. These are now well-regulated, but the river was the scene of a major pollution incident in 1985, when pig slurry discharged into it, killing around 100,000 fish.

Bicton is a village and civil parish in Shropshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 890, increasing to 1,092 at the 2011 Census.The village is about three miles north-west of Shrewsbury town centre and includes part of Montford Bridge. The parish includes the small primary Bicton school.

Royal Air Force Montford Bridge, or more simply RAF Montford Bridge, is a former Royal Air Force satellite station, located near Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.

Shoot Hill railway station was a station to the south of Ford, Shropshire, England. The station was opened in 1921 and closed in 1933. Although Official closure was on 29 February 1960, a 2-coach Stephenson Locomotive Society train ran through on 20 March.

Broomfields is a hamlet in Shropshire, England. It is located north of Montford Bridge and near to the hamlets of Forton Heath and Grafton. It is in the parish of Montford. It used to have its own 7 1/4 gauge garden railway at Broomfields Villa called Broomfields Garden Railway (BGR) from the late 1980s until 2008 when the house was sold, a video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLkMdJS7jho Looking from Google Earth the trackbed around the field the track used to be is visible. Forton Heath is a hamlet in Shropshire, England. It is located north of Montford Bridge, near to the small village of Fitz and near to the hamlets of Broomfields, Mytton and Grafton. It is in the parish of Pimhill. There is a large disused airfield here.
