Duncannon, Pennsylvania

The Wiconisco Canal was a 19th century transportation waterway, about 12 miles (19 km) long, in Dauphin County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Running along the east bank of the Susquehanna River between Millersburg and Duncan's Island at the mouth of the Juniata River, the canal overcame about 42 feet (13 m) of vertical lift through the use of 7 locks.Started by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the canal was completed in 1845 by a private firm and used to ship coal and other goods from northern Dauphin County to distant markets. Sold to a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Railroad, it continued operating until largely destroyed by a flood in 1889. The canal's biggest aqueduct, No. 3 near Halifax, continues to serve as a highway bridge over Powell Creek. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, as the Bridge in Reed Township.

The Juniata River () (pronounced joo-nee-ah-tah ) is a tributary of the Susquehanna River, approximately 104 miles (167 km) long, in central Pennsylvania. The river is considered scenic along much of its route, having a broad and shallow course passing through several mountain ridges and steeply lined water gaps. It formed an early 18th-century frontier region in Pennsylvania and was the site of French-allied Native American attacks against English colonial settlements during the French and Indian War. The watershed of the river encompasses an area of approximately 3,400 square miles (8,800 km2), approximately one-eighth of the drainage area of the Susquehanna. Approximately two-thirds of the watershed is forested. It is the second largest tributary of the Susquehanna after the West Branch Susquehanna.

Shermans Creek is a 53.4-mile-long (85.9 km) tributary of the Susquehanna River in Perry County, Pennsylvania. Shermans Creek joins the Susquehanna River just downstream of Duncannon. As of April 2010, the United States Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System made the decision to modify the name to be "Shermans Creek" , prior to that date the creek was referred to as "Sherman Creek" by the United States Geological Survey. In some cases it can be found referred to as "Sherman's Creek" with an apostrophe although most locals refer to it as Shermans Creek.Shermans Creek is purported to be named after a Native American fur trader who lived near and drowned crossing the creek on horseback.

The Clarks Ferry Bridge is a plate girder bridge that carries U.S. Routes 22 and 322 across the Susquehanna River near Duncannon, Pennsylvania, about 20 miles north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It is a 4 lane expressway standard bridge. The bridge also provides safe passage for hikers, bikers, and pedestrians using the Appalachian Trail and BicyclePA Route J. It was completed in November 1986 replacing a 1925 concrete arch toll bridge.

Powell Creek (on federal maps since 2004: Powells Creek) is a 16.5-mile-long (26.6 km) tributary of the Susquehanna River in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in the United States.It is formed by the junction of its North and South forks southwest of Carsonville. The creek flows southwest along the northern side of Peters Mountain. Powell Creek joins the Susquehanna River just upstream of the Clarks Ferry Bridge and the borough of Duncannon.Powell Creek and nearby Powells Valley was named for the Powell family who settled near its banks in about 1760.

Bridge in Reed Township, originally known as Wiconisco Canal Aqueduct No. 3, is a historic multi-span stone arch bridge spanning Powell Creek on State Route 147 (River Road) in Reed Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1840, as an aqueduct. The property measures 72 feet (22 m) long by 50 feet (15 m) wide. It is built of red and white coursed ashlar and features a belt course and continuous parapet cap.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
