Hermitage, Pennsylvania

Avenue of Flags is a park in the city of Hermitage in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, United States, erected during the Iran hostage crisis of 1979–1981 to honor the American diplomats held hostage in Tehran, Iran. The park is on the grounds of the Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery and is open to the public. The memorial began as a single American flag, surrounded by flags representing each of the 50 states, and was created by Tom Flynn, the owner of the adjacent Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery. On February 11, 1980, the 100th day of captivity, Flynn decided to erect 100 flags and raise one flag every day afterward until the hostages were freed. The American hostages were held in Iran from November 4, 1979, to January 20, 1981. At the end, there were 444 flags, one for each day of captivity. One Canadian flag also flies on the avenue as a tribute to the Canadians from the Canadian Embassy in Tehran who risked their lives to save six hostages from captivity. There is also an eternal flame which burns in front of the monument dedicated to the eight American servicemen who died in the failed hostage rescue attempt on April 25, 1980. The Avenue of the Flags is now run by the Non-profit Avenue of Flags Foundation.

Shenango River Lake is a reservoir in the Shenango River Valley of western Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio. Authorized by the Flood Control Acts of 1938, the lake is one of 16 flood control projects in the Pittsburgh District designed to prevent flooding. It is a popular site among anglers and is lined by 330 campsites.The concrete Shenango Dam (National ID # PA00111) was completed in 1965, at a height of 68 feet and a length of 720 feet at its crest, as a flood control project of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The reservoir has a maximum capacity of 351,000 acre-feet, and a normal capacity of 29,920 acre-feet.

Temple Beth Israel was a Jewish synagogue located at 840 Highland Road in Sharon, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Originally called House of Israel Congregation, it was founded in 1888 as an Orthodox congregation by Eastern European Jews. The congregation merged with Congregation Rodef Sholom of Youngstown, Ohio in July, 2013; and the former synagogue building was sold to a Christian church in 2014.

Jonas J. Pierce House is a historic home located at Sharpsville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1868, and is a three-story, wood-frame residence in the Second Empire style. It is three bays by five bays, and features a mansard roof and large octagonal tower. The house was converted to apartments about 1942.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Buhl Farm Golf Course, formerly known as Buhland Golf Course, located in Sharon, Pennsylvania, is currently the only known free public golf course in the United States. The 9-hole course is open from mid-April to November between 8 a.m. to sundown (closing times vary on season, so call ahead). The course is known for its flat greens, high rough and little room between each hole. It is also known for its easy layout including straight and wide fairways. The course is also known for its one artificial turf tee box, and eight other natural tee boxes. The course also includes a driving range and a First Tee center. It is run by the Buhl Farm Trust and generous donations from the public. The free course is called "Dum Dum" by the locals. It also has a children's golf program in the summer.

First Universalist Church of Sharpsville is a historic Universalist church located at 131 N. Mercer Avenue in Sharpsville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, United States. The church was built between 1882 and 1884, and is a richly decorated brick and stone church building in a High Victorian Gothic style. It measures 52 feet by 42 feet and the interior takes the Akron plan. The property includes the parsonage; a two-story Queen Anne style dwelling built in 1888.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. The Sharpsville Area Historical Society purchased the building in 2000 and is in the process of restoring it. The building serves as the Society's headquarters.
