It was built in 1868 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 17, 1980. It was destroyed by arson on November 8, 2008. It was the oldest of the three remaining covered bridges in Erie County. The bridge structure's sufficiency rating on the Federal Highway Administration National Bridge Inventory was only 14.6 percent and its condition was deemed "basically intolerable requiring high priority of corrective action".

Sterrettania is not a census designated or incorporated place having an official federally recognized name. Sterrettania appears on the Swanville U.S. Geological Survey Map, is in the Eastern Time Zone (UTC -5 hours) and observes daylight saving time.
