Fairview High School is a public high school located in Fairview Township, Pennsylvania, and it is part of the Fairview School District. The school serves as the only high school in Fairview Township, and has a yearly enrollment of approximately 550-600 students. The school's mascot is the tiger and their colors are red and black.

The Sturgeon House is a saltbox house dating from around 1838 in Fairview, Erie County, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The Sturgeon House is operated as museum by the Fairview Area Historical Society.

The Gudgeonville Covered Bridge was an 84-foot (25.6 m) long Multiple King-post Truss covered bridge over Elk Creek in Girard Township, Erie County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It was built in 1868 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 17, 1980. It was destroyed by arson on November 8, 2008. It was the oldest of the three remaining covered bridges in Erie County. The bridge structure's sufficiency rating on the Federal Highway Administration National Bridge Inventory was only 14.6 percent and its condition was deemed "basically intolerable requiring high priority of corrective action".

Sterrettania is an unincorporated community on Pennsylvania Route 832. Sterrettania is located 12 miles (19 km) southwest of downtown Erie and has an elevation of 886 feet (270 m). Sterrettania is not a census designated or incorporated place having an official federally recognized name. Sterrettania appears on the Swanville U.S. Geological Survey Map, is in the Eastern Time Zone (UTC -5 hours) and observes daylight saving time.

JoAnne Carner won the first of her two U.S. Women's Open titles, seven strokes ahead of runner-up Kathy Whitworth. Carner led (or co-led) wire-to-wire and entered the final round with a five-stroke lead over 1963 champion Mary Mills. The course was designed by Donald Ross.
