Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site

Fort Hunter is a hamlet in the Town of Florida in Montgomery County, New York, United States, west of the capital at Albany, on the south bank of the Mohawk River and on the northeast bank of Schoharie Creek. The hamlet, developed around a fort of the same name, was built by English colonists in 1712 near the Mohawk village of Tionondoroge for their defense. Queen Anne ordered the fort built at the request of the Mohawk, in exchange for their allowing her to settle German Palatines in their territory. The English called the Mohawk settlement the Lower Mohawk Castle. Within a few years, the fort included an Anglican chapel, first built in logs and replaced by a stone church in 1741. It was a mission church for the Mohawk in addition to English settlers. The fort survived the wars in the region; it was taken down in 1820 to make way for construction of the Erie Canal.

Schoharie Creek is a river in New York that flows north 93 miles (150 km) from the foot of Indian Head Mountain in the Catskills through the Schoharie Valley to the Mohawk River. It is twice impounded north of Prattsville to create New York City's Schoharie Reservoir and the Blenheim-Gilboa Power Project. During the American Revolutionary War, Iroquois Indian attacks against the cluster of farms in the valley of the Cobleskill Creek tributary was the site of the Cobleskill Massacre (May 1778), virtually depopulating Europeansettlements in the southern Mohawk valley. News of this and two other mixed Tory-Indian guerrilla attacks led to an appropriation of funds for the Sullivan Expedition, dispatched by General Washington in 1779 to retaliate against the Iroquois andbreak the threat of Indian raids. The Erie Canal crossed over the creek by an aqueduct at Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site. Two notable bridge collapses have occurred on Schoharie Creek. In 1987, two spans of the New York State Thruway collapsed. On August 28, 2011, the covered Old Blenheim Bridge collapsed due to flooding from Hurricane Irene.

The Schoharie Creek Bridge was a New York State Thruway (I-90) bridge over the Schoharie Creek near Fort Hunter and the Mohawk River in New York State. On April 5, 1987, it collapsed due to bridge scour at the foundations after a record rainfall. The collapse killed ten people. The replacement bridge was completed and fully open to traffic on May 21, 1988.The failure of the Schoharie Creek Bridge motivated improvement in bridge design and inspection procedures within New York and beyond.

Tribes Hill is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the Towns of Mohawk (80%) and Amsterdam (20%) in Montgomery County, New York, United States. The population was 1,003 at the 2010 census. One theory is the name is based on this location having been a gathering spot for the Mohawk nation, the dominant Iroquois tribe in the area during colonial times. Tribes Hill spans the border of the Town of Mohawk and Town of Amsterdam, approximately five miles west of the City of Amsterdam on Route 5.

Amsterdam City Hall is a historic city hall complex located in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York. The complex includes the former Sanford Mansion, laundry building, and carriage house. The Sanford Mansion was built in 1869 as the home of Stephen Sanford, an industrialist, rugmaker and philanthropist. The mansion was deeded to the city for use as a city hall upon the death of John Sanford in 1932. As the city hall, the original house was expanded considerably with a three-by-ten-bay addition, completed in the early 20th century.The former Sanford Mansion is a 3-story, brick Classical Revival building designed by Albert W. Fuller which was extensively remodeled in 1913–1917. It features a massive portico with six fluted columns topped by Corinthian order capitals. The former laundry house is a simple 1+1⁄2-story brick building with a slate-covered gable roof. The former carriage house was built about 1869. Some landscape features dating to the 1917 remodeling remain on the property.Amsterdam City Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Auries Creek flows into the Mohawk River in Auriesville, New York.

Auriesville is a hamlet in the northern part of New York state and west of Albany. It was the site of Ossernenon, a Mohawk village where French Jesuits established a mission. This operated from 1667 until 1684, when the Mohawk destroyed it as part of continuing confrontations with French colonists. Auries is said to have been the name of the last Mohawk known to have lived there. Later settlers named the village after him. Since the late 19th century, a Catholic tradition developed associating Auriesville with the site of the Mohawk village Ossernenon, where Jesuit missionaries were martyred in 1642 and 1646. The National Shrine of the North American Martyrs was built here in 1930 and has added to its grounds. But, according to Dean R. Snow and other late 20th-century archeologists specializing in Native American history, Ossernenon was located about 9 miles west on a tributary on the south side of the Mohawk River. Archeologists who have excavated there refer to it as the Bauder site. The association of Auriesville with Ossernenon has not been supported by archeological evidence.

Danascara Creek is a river that flows into the Mohawk River by Auriesville, New York. The creek begins southeast of Johnstown and flows in a generally southeast direction before converging with the Mohawk River by Tribes Hill.

Pepper Island also called Leppe Island or Island Number Ten is an island on the Mohawk River south of Fort Johnson in Montgomery County, New York.

Fulton–Montgomery Community College (FMCC) is a public community college in Johnstown, New York. It is part of the State University of New York and serves Fulton and Montgomery counties. The college offers 45 degree and certificate programs, 30 campus clubs, and is a member of the NJCAA, offering Division III sports in basketball, soccer, baseball, softball and volleyball. In 2013, new dorms were added to the campus to serve local and out-of-town students. Its many notable alumni include Carolyn Muessig, a medievalist specializing in sermon literature, female education, and hagiography, now the Chair of Christian Thought in the Department of Classics and Religion, University of Calgary.

Old Fort Johnson is a historic house museum and historic site at 2 Mergner Road (junction of New York State Routes 5 and 67) in Fort Johnson, New York. It is the site of Fort Johnson, a two-story stone house originally enclosed in fortifications built by Sir William Johnson about 1749. The fort served as Johnson's home, business office and trading center until 1763 when he moved to Johnson Hall in what is now Johnstown, New York. Sir William's son Sir John Johnson owned the house from 1763 until 1776, when it was confiscated by the local Committee of Safety. The house remains and is owned and operated as a museum by the Montgomery County Historical Society. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1972.

Kayaderosseras Creek also called Kaniatarósera'as Stream is a river located in Montgomery and Fulton counties in the state of New York. The creek begins southeast of Johnstown and flows in a generally southeast direction before converging with the Mohawk River by Fort Johnson, just west of Amsterdam. Kaniatarósera'as Stream, is a Mohawk name which translates to "waves splashing".
