Valcour Bay

Bluff Point Light, also known as the Valcour Island Light, on Valcour Island in Lake Champlain was in service from its construction in 1874 until 1930 and was one of the last lighthouses on Lake Champlain to be named. It is now part of Adirondack State Park and operated as a museum by the Clinton County Historical Association, an affiliate of the Adirondack Coast Cultural Alliance (ACCA).Bluff Point Light, for which the United States Congress approved $15,000 in funding in 1870, with a base of blue limestone, stands more than 90 feet (27 m) above the shore. The grounds also include a wooden shed (which has since collapsed and was removed), a cistern and a privy. For almost sixty years, the Victorian style lighthouse and its fifth order Fresnel lens guided ships through the channel between Valcour Island and New York State. As was the case with many other lighthouses, the lighthouse keeper for Bluff Point Light was a disabled Civil War veteran, Major William Herwerth, who worked at the lighthouse from 1876 until 1881 when he died while on duty. In an unusual position for a woman at that time, Herwerth's wife Mary was given command of the lighthouse, which she maintained until 1902.In 1930, the lighthouse ceased operation when a steel tower with an automated light was built to the south of the lighthouse, rendering the lighthouse obsolete. The lighthouse remained unlit until 2002 when the United States Coast Guard lit it in August 2002, although it was not officially put back into service until 2004.After the lighthouse was taken out of service, it was purchased by Doctor Otto Raboff from Massachusetts who renovated and used it as a summer house with his family. In the 1980s, the lighthouse became a part of Adirondack State Park and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has held the deed to the house since 1986 and pays for all maintenance. Since that time, the Clinton County Historical Association worked to restore the lighthouse and preserve it as a museum. In 1999, the Association was given an award by Adirondack Architectural Heritage for their stewardship of the lighthouse.

Valcour Island is a 968-acre (3.92 km2): 6  island in Lake Champlain in Clinton County, New York, United States. The island is mostly in the Town of Peru and partly in the Town of Plattsburgh, southeast of the City of Plattsburgh. It is within the boundaries of the Adirondack Park.

Clinton Community College (CCC) is a public community college in Plattsburgh, in Clinton County, New York. It is part of the State University of New York (SUNY). CCC is a residential campus that has 1,376 undergraduates with an average class size of 16. Located on Lake Champlain, it is an hour south of Montreal, Quebec and across the lake from Burlington, Vermont. Clinton Community College offers fifteen A.A., A.S., and A.A.S. programs and ten certificate programs, all approved by the New York State Department of Education, as well as a number of articulation agreements and transfer options to other four-year colleges and universities. Since 2009, students have also had the option to further their educations and earn a four-year Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Human Services from Cazenovia College, on the grounds of CCC at night.

WEAV (960 AM) is an English-language American radio station in Plattsburgh, New York, with studios in Colchester, Vermont. The station broadcasts a sports format. Owned and operated by Vox AM/FM, the station broadcasts on 960 kHz with a power of 5,000 watts as a class B station, using a directional antenna with slightly different daytime and nighttime directional patterns in order to protect various other stations on that frequency. Both daytime and the tighter nighttime patterns of WEAV are directed mostly to the north and west of Plattsburgh, with not a lot of signal strength reaching deep into Vermont. It also broadcasts in Burlington on FM translator 97.1 and in Plattsburgh on FM translator 105.9.

Crab Island is a roughly 40-acre (0.16 km2) limestone island situated in Lake Champlain just outside Plattsburgh Bay in the town of Plattsburgh in Clinton County in upstate New York. During the War of 1812, the island was utilized as a military field hospital for convalescent soldiers as well as both British and American casualties of the Battle of Plattsburgh. The island is the site of a mass grave believed to contain the remains of roughly 150 of those casualties. Crab Island is infamous locally for its poison ivy, which grows abundantly on the island. Its name is thought to come from the large amounts of "crabs" (referring to fossilized shells, trilobites, and other fossils) found along the island's limestone shoreline.

Plattsburgh International Airport (IATA: PBG, ICAO: KPBG, FAA LID: PBG) is a county public-use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) south of the central business district of the city of Plattsburgh, within the Town of Plattsburgh in Clinton County, New York, United States. About 85 percent of the airport's passengers in 2013 were Canadians, mostly from Montreal.The airport is located at the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base and has been owned by Clinton County since 2002. The old base is still being redeveloped by Plattsburgh Airbase Redevelopment Corporation, established in 1995 after the airbase closed. The airport's massive facilities have been upgraded to civilian aviation standards and the county fully transitioned here from Clinton County Airport as of June 2007. Passenger service began on June 18, 2007, and Clinton County Airport has been shut down since then. All airline service in Plattsburgh goes through the airport, which has expanded its terminal building to accommodate more passengers and provide more gates for aircraft. Scheduled passenger service from this airport to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is subsidized by the United States Department of Transportation via the Essential Air Service program. The airport was closed to air traffic from April 13, 2021, to approximately June 22, 2021 due to the middle section of the runway being repaved.It is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a primary commercial service airport (more than 10,000 enplanements per year). As per Federal Aviation Administration records, the airport had 45,998 passenger boardings (enplanements) in 2008, 73,159 enplanements in 2009, 94,808 in 2010, and 139,698 in 2011.

Plattsburgh Air Force Base is a former United States Air Force (USAF) Strategic Air Command (SAC) base covering 3,447 acres (13.7 km²) in the extreme northeast corner of New York, located on the western shore of Lake Champlain opposite Burlington, Vermont, in the town of Plattsburgh, New York. The base closed on 25 September 1995, pursuant to the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Act of 1990 (10 U.S.C. Sec. 2687 note) and the recommendations of the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission. It is now a civilian airport and industrial complex, operated by the Plattsburgh Air Base Development Authority. The airfield is now known as Plattsburgh International Airport.

Parc is a location and census-designated place in Clinton County, New York, United States. The name "Parc" is derived from the official name for the 3,447-acre (13.95 km2) industrial site, which is PARC, an acronym for the Plattsburgh Airbase Redevelopment Corporation. PARC was established for the purpose of redeveloping the Plattsburgh Air Force Base after it closed on September 25, 1995. PARC is now operated by the Plattsburgh Air Base Development Authority, and the massive airfield is now Plattsburgh International Airport. The population of the Parc CDP was 254 at the 2010 census. Parc is located in the town of Plattsburgh and is bordered to the north by the city of Plattsburgh.

The Ausable River (), also known as AuSable River and originally written as "Au Sable", runs in the U.S. state of New York, from the Adirondack Mountains and past the village of Lake Placid and Au Sable Forks to empty into Lake Champlain (at 44°33′40″N 73°25′25″W). It has an East and West branch that join at Au Sable Forks. The river forms a partial boundary between Clinton County and Essex County. The Ausable River is known for its gorge, Ausable Chasm, located a few miles east of Keeseville. The Ausable River is 94 miles (150 km) long and drains a watershed of 516 square miles (1,340 km2).It was originally named "Au Sable" (French for "sandy") by Samuel de Champlain when he first explored the region in 1609 because of its extensive sandy delta.

Carpenter's Flats Bridge is a historic Warren Steel Truss bridge over the Ausable River at AuSable and Peru in Clinton County, New York. It was built by the American Bridge Company in 1941. The bridge is 255 feet (78 m) in length, 37 feet (11 m) wide, and 38 feet (12 m) in height.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999 for representing the distinctive American bridge designs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and reflecting the development of American land-based transportation systems in an era of settlement.

Delaware and Hudson Railroad Bridge is a pair of historic Warren Steel Truss bridges over the Ausable River at AuSable and Peru in Clinton County, New York. Also known as the Delaware and Hudson Ausable River Bridge, they were built by the American Bridge Company for the Delaware and Hudson Railway in 1913. The North Bridge is 156 feet in length and the South Bridge 173 feet. They are both 16 feet wide and 25 feet in height.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The "Old Stone Barracks" is the last remaining structure of a proposed quadrangle of early U.S. Army barracks built at Plattsburgh, New York in 1838. Of the four main buildings initially planned for the Plattsburgh post, only two were ever constructed, an officer's barracks and an enlisted barracks which formed an "L" shape. The buildings were utilized by the Army for nearly a century. The officer's quarters, in which Lt. Ulysses S. Grant once stayed, was torn down by the U.S. Air Force during the winter of 1963. The remaining building, the 200-foot (61 m) long, two story "Old Stone Barracks," remained mostly empty after the early 1960s and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. In December 2010 the Barracks and more than 7 acres of property was offered to a Canadian real estate developer for $35,000 with the intention of building an apartment complex on the historic site. At the time, the Barracks property was appraised at over $775,000 and the sale sparked public outcry for its preservation. In 2014, the building was again sold to current owners Terry Schmaltz and Mary Theresa Pearl who redeveloped it as the home of the "Valcour Brewing Company." The new craft brewery opened in 2016.
