Atascadero High School (formerly Margarita Black Union High School) is an American public high school located in Atascadero, California. Atascadero High School is 1 of 2 high schools in the Atascadero Unified School District. The school receives its students mainly from the Atascadero Junior High School and Atascadero Fine Arts Academy, and also attracts students from outlying areas of northern and eastern San Luis Obispo County.

Atascadero (Spanish for "Mire") is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States, located on U.S. Route 101. Atascadero is part of the San Luis Obispo-Paso Robles metropolitan statistical area, which encompasses the extents of the county. Atascadero is farther inland than most other cities in the county, and as a result, usually experiences warmer, drier summers, and cooler winters than other nearby cities such as San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach. The main freeway through town is U.S. 101. The nearby State Routes 41 and 46 provide access to the Pacific Coast and the Central Valley of California. Founded by E. G. Lewis in 1913, the city grew to 29,773 people as of 2020. Atascadero State Hospital is located in the city.

The Carlton Hotel is a luxury hotel located in Atascadero, California, along the state's Central Coast in San Luis Obispo County. Construction began in 1928, with the hotel officially opening its doors in 1929. After several decades of local popularity and notoriety, by the early 1980s the property had fallen into deep disrepair. During this time, the dilapidation had degenerated into such extent that several local bands would play in the dark and abandoned lobby, and the gold-plated hands of the tower clock were stolen - sometime in the late 1970s. In 1999, a joint-venture, formed between David Weyrich, David Crabtree and Steve Landaker, purchased the hotel and embarked on a massive renovation project. They successfully reopened the facility in 2004. The hotel now boasts an artisanal Bakery & Cafe and has plans to open a restaurant in the future.

The Atascadero Administration Building is the historic facility where Atascadero City Hall conducts operations. W.D. Bliss designed the building, began construction in 1914 and completed in 1918.

The Atascadero Printery is a historic building in Atascadero, California. Built in 1915 to house a printing company, it later was home to a junior college, a prep school, a Masonic Temple, a school district office, a sheriff's substation, a live-in studio for a photographer, a karate studio, a commercial business, and community events. In 2017, the building, in a state of disrepair, was put up for public auction and purchased for $300,000 by the non-profit Atascadero Printery Foundation, which plans to restore and remodel it as a community center.

Rancho Atascadero was a 4,348-acre (17.60 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Luis Obispo County, California. It was granted in 1842 by Governor Juan Alvarado to Trifon Garcia. The grant extended along the Salinas River and encompassed present-day Atascadero.

Atascadero State Hospital, formally known as California Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (DSHA), is located on the Central Coast of California, in San Luis Obispo County, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. DSHA is an all-male, maximum-security facility, forensic institution that houses mentally ill convicts who have been committed to psychiatric facilities by California's courts. Located on a 700+ acre grounds in the city of Atascadero, California, it is the largest employer in that town. DSHA is not a general purpose public hospital, and the only patients admitted are those that are referred to the hospital by the Superior Court, Board of Prison Terms, or the Department of Corrections.

Asuncion (Spanish: Asunción, meaning "Ascension") is a former stage coach stop. All that remains of a building are a few bits of adobe rubble. A spring runs through it from the other side of the road, Traffic Way. It is thought that Juan Batista De Anza and his party of settlers may have camped near here on their trek north. The adobe building or ruins of it were destroyed by a former owner of the farm who saw it as a potential liability. There never was a "community" here and today most people don't know the spot exists. It lies within the incorporated City of Atascadero, CA. in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. Asuncion is located along U.S. Route 101 between Templeton and Atascadero.

Garden Farms is a census-designated place in San Luis Obispo County, California. Garden Farms sits at an elevation of 955 feet (291 m). The 2010 United States census reported Garden Farms's population was 386. Garden Farms is a subdivision located between Santa Margarita and Atascadero, California.

Templeton High School is a WASC accredited public high school providing ninth- through twelfth-grade education in Templeton, California. In 2006, Templeton High School was nationally recognized as a (NCLB) Blue Ribbon School. It offers a large number of Advanced Placement classes for a school of its size. Templeton High School is located at the end of Main Street. Enrollment has grown substantially during the past decade. Currently the school comprises 43 classrooms, a library, multi-purpose room, food services area, two locker complexes, eating areas, a gymnasium (with seating capacity for 1200), and a vocational/technology area composed of wood, metals, CAD, and ornamental horticulture classrooms. An active 7-acre (2.8 ha) farm is located on “Ag Hill” with indoor/outdoor facilities for large and small animals. A sports complex consisting of baseball fields is located at Vineyard Elementary School. A permanent restroom facility was added to the complex in 2005. The Performing Arts Center opened its doors for the winter concerts in December 2002 with 340 seats and the new varsity stadium held its first football game in the fall of 2005.

Rancho Asuncion was a 39,225-acre (158.74 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Luis Obispo County, California. It was given in 1845 by Governor Pío Pico to Pedro Estrada. The grant extended along the Salinas River in the Santa Lucia Range, and encompassed present-day Atascadero. Originally, Rancho de le Asuncion was part of the Mission San Miguel Arcángel territory and as such, was part of the Salinan Indian tribal territory.

The Santa Margarita de Cortona Asistencia was established in 1787 as an asistencia ("sub-mission") to Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, then in the Spanish Las Californias Province. Its site is near the present day city of Santa Margarita, in San Luis Obispo County, central California.
