Alken, Germany

The ruins of the Thurant Castle (German: Burg Thurant, also Thurandt or Thurand) stand on a wide slate hill spur above the villages of Alken on the Moselle in Germany. The castle is in the district of Mayen-Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate and belongs to the spur castle type. Vine gardens on the sunniest slope. From the mid-13th century the archbishops of Cologne and Trier were joint owners and had their respective property managed by burgraves. As a result, each half of the castle had its own bergfried, living/domestic buildings and entrance. From the early 16th century the double castle gradually fell into disrepair and was made a complete ruin during the destruction wrought by the War of the Palatine Succession. Robert Allmers (1872–1951) from Varel, co-founder of the Hansa Automobil company and, from 1914, director of Bremen's Hansa Lloyd factories, bought the site in 1911 and had part of it rebuilt. The castle is in private hands, but may be visited from March to mid-November for a fee. Under to the Heritage Monument Conservation Act of the state, the whole site is a protected monument so is incorporated into the state monument list. It is a protected cultural object under the Hague Convention, bearing its blue and white signs.

The Ehrenburg is the ruin of a spur castle at 230 m above sea level (NN) in the vicinity of Brodenbach in Germany. The castle had a very eventful history. It was built on a rocky spur called the Ehrenberg situated above the valley of the Ehrbach, a right bank valley of the Moselle. Once the fortified heart of a small imperial barony with estates between the Lower Moselle and Middle Rhine, it is today a cultural monument that hosts numerous events.

Nörtershausen (German pronunciation: [ˈnœʁtɐsˌhaʊzən]) is a municipality in the district of Mayen-Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate, western Germany.

Niederfell is a small town located in the municipal association of Rhein-Mosel, which is within the rural district of Mayen-Koblenz, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, near the country's western border. It is located across the Mosel River from the small town of Gondorf, about 17 kilometres (11 mi) from the city of Koblenz. This town has existed for over a thousand years. A document that was prepared under the Archbishop Poppo describes donations to the Abbey of Saint Mary in the year 1030 A.D., and Niederfell is mentioned in that document (the Abbey of St. Mary was located at what is now called the Exzellenzhaus in Trier). That document also refers to an older document of Archbishop Egbertus from the year 980 A.D., and accordingly Niederfell celebrated its 1000th anniversary in 1980.In the early 1600s, during the Thirty Years War, this town was repeatedly destroyed, and therefore no medieval buildings still exist there. The town's population has been fairly stable since 1950, at about one thousand people.

Rhein-Mosel is a Verbandsgemeinde ("collective municipality") in the district Mayen-Koblenz, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated along the lower course of the river Moselle, south-west of Koblenz. The seat of the municipality is in Kobern-Gondorf. It was formed on 1 July 2014 by the merger of the former Verbandsgemeinden Untermosel and Rhens. The Verbandsgemeinde Rhein-Mosel consists of the following Ortsgemeinden ("local municipalities"):

On 1 July 2014 it merged into the new Verbandsgemeinde Rhein-Mosel.
