Denton is a town in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England, five miles (8 km) east of Manchester city centre. Historically part of Lancashire, it had a population of 36,591 at the 2011 Census.

St Thomas More RC College located in Denton, Greater Manchester, England is a comprehensive school previously known as St Thomas More RC High School.St Thomas More has a roll of approximately 780 pupils and 40 teaching staff.The school was opened in 1964 and gained Specialist College status in Mathematics and Computing in 2004. Following its designation as a high performing specialist college it was awarded a second specialism in Applied Learning in 2008 and awarded Leading Edge status in 2010.

Haughton is a township forming the eastern portion of Denton, Tameside in Greater Manchester. The township probably dates from the Anglo-Saxon times, and was first recorded as Halcton or Halghton in the thirteenth century. In Saxon, Haughton means 'settlement' (ton) on 'low-lying land' (Haugh), and probably refers to the ancient township's location in the Tame Valley.

St Anne's Church in Haughton, Denton, Greater Manchester, England, is a Grade I Listed Building. The foundation stone was laid on the 1st September 1880 and the church was finally completed on the 29th July 1882. The building was designed by J. Medland Taylor and the construction was funded by E. Joseph Sidebotham, a member of the Sidebotham mill-owning family of Hyde. The church was built in brick in the Gothic Revival style, but also utilised timber framing.It has been described as the best-known work of the architects, an 'extraordinary free-form brick church that forms the nucleus of the most important cluster of their buildings' surviving. The lychgate and rectory that adjoin the main church are also of architectural significance, and each is on the register of protected buildings in its own right.

Haughton Green is a large village in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. It formed part of the ancient township of Haughton, Lancashire, along with Haughton Dale, Higher Haughton, Lower Haughton, Haughton Hall and Haughton itself.

Denton Urban District was a local government district in England from 1894 to 1974. Denton was originally a township in the ancient parish of Manchester in the Salford Hundred of Lancashire. In 1866 it became a civil parish in its own right. The Denton parish was expanded on 31 December 1894 by gaining the former area of Haughton;. The Local Government Act 1894 created the urban district of Denton in the administrative county of Lancashire which consisted of the whole of the enlarged civil parish. There were minor boundary changes in 1933 and 1937 with the Manchester and Stockport county boroughs which did not affect any population. In 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, the assets and area of the district were transferred to the newly created metropolitan borough of Tameside.

Hyde Hall in Denton (grid reference SJ91809427) is Grade II* Listed Building and was home to a branch of the Hyde family of Denton and Hyde. The building was built by partially timber and then was partially faced with brick and stone. Below the Hyde coat of arms is an inscription dating the hall to at least 1625, and was originally built in the sixteenth or seventeenth century. In 1642 one of the residents of Hyde Hall, Robert Hyde, raised troops to aid the besieged Parliamentarians in Manchester during the English Civil War. The hall is privately owned and is listed on the Buildings at Risk Register, rating its condition as "poor".
