Keewaydin, Minneapolis

Lake Nokomis is one of several lakes in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The lake was previously named Lake Amelia in honor of Captain George Gooding's daughter, Amelia, in 1819. Its current name was adopted in 1910 to honor Nokomis, grandmother of Hiawatha. It is located in the southern part of the city, west of the Mississippi River and south of Lake Hiawatha. The lake is oval in shape, with a long axis running southwest to northeast. Two pathways circle the lake, a 2.7-mile (4.3 km) pedestrian trail and a 2.8-mile (4.5 km) bicycle trail. Because the lower part of the lake is crossed by Cedar Avenue running north-south, the impression from the ground is that the lake is shaped like an L. The lake has an area of 204 acres (0.83 km2).

Lake Hiawatha is located just north of Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was purchased by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board in 1922 for $550,000. At that time the lake was a marsh known as Rice Lake, but over four years, the park system transformed the wetland into a lake surrounded by a park.

Nokomis Library, formerly Nokomis Community Library, is a branch library serving the Nokomis East area of Minneapolis, Minnesota. One of 41 libraries in the Hennepin County Library system, Nokomis was designed by Buetow and Associates, Inc and opened in 1968 as a replacement for the nearby Longfellow Community Library. After being deemed crowded and outdated in 1999, the library underwent a renovation beginning in 2009 that saw it gain a number of environmentally friendly features and an expansion of 4,300 square feet (399 m2). The building reopened in 2011 and includes a restored Wind and Water Chime, a stabile that was part of the original library and that was refurbished and reinstalled by July 2013. The library contains over 35 computers, a public meeting room, and a Spanish-language collection of materials.

Nokomis is a community in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It takes its name from Lake Nokomis. It comprises eleven smaller neighborhoods.

Ericsson is a neighborhood within the Nokomis community in Minneapolis. Its boundaries are East 42nd and 43rd Streets to the north, Hiawatha Avenue to the east, Minnehaha Parkway to the south, and Cedar Avenue to the west. The neighborhood is the site of Lake Hiawatha, which is connected to Minnehaha Creek. Ericsson shares a neighborhood organization with Standish, even though that neighborhood lies in the Powderhorn community; signs at the western, southern, and eastern boundaries of the neighborhood welcome you to "Standish-Ericsson". The 46th Street station of the METRO Blue Line is located in Ericsson.

Nokomis East is a group of neighborhoods in the southeastern corner of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. It consists of four neighborhoods: Keewaydin, Minnehaha, Morris Park and Wenonah. Nokomis East contains two schools, the Nokomis Community Library, and a post office. On its western edge is Lake Nokomis, for which it is named. Two regional parks (Minnehaha and Lake Nokomis), and three neighborhood parks, (Keewaydin, Bossen Field and Morris Park) provide recreation and educational programming for all age groups. Seven churches serve residents of various denominations. Nokomis East is served by the Nokomis East Neighborhood Association (NENA). The main transportation corridors are the neighborhood boundaries: Cedar Avenue, 34th and 28th Avenues, 50th and 54th Streets, Hwy 55 (Hiawatha Avenue), and Crosstown highway 62.

Wenonah is a neighborhood on the southeast side of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Its boundaries are 54th Street to the north, 34th Avenue to the east, the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport to the south, and Cedar Avenue to the west. The neighborhood contains a portion of Lake Nokomis. It shares a neighborhood organization with the Keewaydin, Minnehaha, and Morris Park neighborhoods, which are collectively referred to as Nokomis East and are served by the Nokomis East Neighborhood Association (NENA).

Nokomis Knoll Residential Historic District is a neighborhood of houses near Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999 and features a number of homes built in popular revival architecture styles of the 1920s, 1930s, and early 1940s. The styles include French and Italian Renaissance, Tudor Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival, and Colonial Revival. There are also a few American Craftsman and bungalow style houses. Tudor Revival is the most prominent style in this district. Most of the homes were built during a nationwide housing boom of middle- and upper-middle-class house building. The homes also show the influence of increasing automobile ownership among the middle class, since most of the houses had individual garages built as standard amenities.

The Minneapolis-Saint Paul Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) is the owner and operator of Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport in Minnesota as well as six other reliever airports in the Twin Cities region, which primarily provide service to private individuals and businesses, but also have regional transportation service. The MAC is a governmental agency of the State of Minnesota. Twelve of its commissioners are appointed by the governor. The mayors of the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul or their designees are also members of the commission. Four of the commissioners must be residents of outstate Minnesota (outside the Twin Cities metropolitan area).

The 5-8 Club Tavern & Grill is a restaurant in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Founded in 1928 as a speakeasy, the eatery is one of two Minneapolis establishments that claim to have invented the Juicy Lucy cheeseburger in the 1950s, the other being Matt's Bar. The 5-8 Club also serves its Saucy Sally burger and other dishes including fried cheese curds and onion straws. The restaurant, which has been featured on several Travel Channel TV series, has three additional locations in Minnesota.

Hiawatha Golf Course is a golf course adjacent to Lake Hiawatha in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The golf course was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2023 for its association with the African American community. The Minneapolis Park Board developed five golf courses in the first three decades of the 20th century, since golf was a relatively new sport at the time and interest was peaking. Black residents in Minneapolis were concentrated in a few neighborhoods, including Southside, so Hiawatha Golf Course became an important social and recreational center for that neighborhood.: 23 

46th Street station is a light rail station on the METRO Blue Line in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This station is located on the northwest corner of the intersection of 46th Street and Minnesota State Highway 55 (Hiawatha Avenue), in the Ericsson neighborhood. This is a side-platform station. Service began at this station when the Blue Line opened on June 26, 2004. 46th Street Station is one of the main bus interchanges on the Blue Line in Minneapolis. Buses serving south Minneapolis and St. Paul serve the station's bus interchange. A bus rapid transit line, called the A Line, began operating on Snelling Avenue in June 2016, beginning its route at 46th Street Station; the line also connects to the Green Line at Snelling Avenue and University Avenue.
