West Warren Street Historic District is a national historic district located at Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina. It encompasses 176 contributing buildings, one contributing site, and one contributing object in a residential section of Shelby. The houses date between about 1918 and the 1940s, and include representative examples of Late Victorian, Queen Anne, and Bungalow / American Craftsman architectural styles. Notable nonresidential buildings include the Graham Elementary School drinking fountain (1927–1928) and Young Brothers Storage Building (1940s).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The houses date between about 1921 and 1952, and include representative examples of Colonial Revival and Bungalow / American Craftsman architectural styles.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Central Shelby Historic District is a national historic district located at Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina. It encompasses 229 contributing buildings in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of Shelby. The district is centered on the Cleveland County Courthouse (1907) and public square, established in 1841. The district includes representative examples of Colonial Revival and Bungalow / American Craftsman architectural styles. The district includes the separately listed courthouse, Masonic Temple Building, and Webbley. Other notable buildings include the Webb House, Wells House, Fulenwider-Ebeltoft House, Dr. S. S. Royster House, Bateman House, Washburn Block, city hall and firehouse (1911), Royster Building (1910), First Baptist Church, Ascension Lutheran Church (1932), and Southern Railway Freight Depot (c. 1920).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, with a boundary increase in 2002.

It was built in 1893, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, modified "U"-plan, eclectic frame dwelling with Italianate, Gothic Revival, and Queen Anne style design elements. It features a rich array of sawn and turned ornament.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Historic Campbell Building is a former department store in Shelby, North Carolina. Completed in 1927, the building's grand opening as The Campbell's Department Store took place on March 9, 1928. The building is significant for its type of brick and steel construction, finishing, unique craftsmanship, and history with local families. The building was rehabilitated between October 2015 and June 2018

The Cleveland County Courthouse is a courthouse building located at Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina.

Webbley, also known as the O. Max Gardner House, is a historic home located at Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina. It was built in 1852, and overbuilt in 1907 in the Colonial Revival style. It is a two-story frame dwelling with a low-pitched hip roof, flat roof deck, and roof balustrade. It has two hip roof rear ells. The front facade features a full-height, flat-roof portico supported by fluted Ionic order columns. The home acquired its named shortly after it was bought by James L. Webb in 1911. Webbley was the home of Governor Oliver Max Gardner (1882–1947) and his wife, Fay Webb-Gardner, from 1911 until his death.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The home was vacated in 1981 and vacant until it was purchased in 1989 by Oliver Max Gardner III and renovated. It opened as a bed and breakfast inn in 1993. It is located in the Central Shelby Historic District.

The Banker's House is a historic home located at 319 N. Lafayette St. in Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina. It was designed by architect G.S.H. Appleget, and was built in 1874–1875. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, T-shaped, stuccoed brick house in the Second Empire style. It features a 3+1⁄2-story tower, with mansard roofs on the tower and main block. Also on the property is a contributing wellhouse and a one-story brick outbuilding.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

The Masonic Temple is a historic Masonic Lodge and office building located at Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina. It was built in 1924–1925, and is a four-story, rectangular, brushed brick building. It is in the Egyptian Revival style with massive concrete lintels at the first story, robust lotiform pillars at the building's principal entrance, and a richly ornamented cornice frieze. It was commissioned by the Cleveland Lodge of the Ancient, Free, and Accepted Masons of North Carolina. Today, no Masonic lodges meet in the building.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It is located in the Central Shelby Historic District.

The James Heyward Hull House is a historic home located at Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina. It was built c. 1874 and extensively remodeled in 1907. The remodeling added the Classical Revival style semi-elliptical monumental portico with fluted Corinthian order columns and pilasters. It is a two-story, square-in-plan main block with a central hall, triple pile floor plan and a hip roof. A two-story rear wing was added in the 1940s.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Cleveland County Training School was a historic school for African-Americans in Shelby, North Carolina. It was included in National Register of Historic Places in 2016.
