Thiaroye

Dakar Region (French: Région de Dakar) is the smallest and most populated Region of Senegal, encompassing the capital city of the country, Dakar, and all its suburbs along the Cap–Vert Peninsula, Africa's most westerly point.

The Thiaroye massacre (French: Massacre de Thiaroye; pronounced [tja.ʁwa]) was a massacre of French West African veterans of the 1940 Battle of France, by French forces on the morning of 1 December 1944. These Tirailleurs Sénégalais units had been recently liberated from prisoner camps and after being repatriated to West Africa, they mutinied against poor conditions and defaulted pay at the Thiaroye military camp, on the outskirts of Dakar, Senegal. Between 35 and over 300 people were killed.

Pikine Department is one of the 45 departments of Senegal and one of the four which make up Dakar Region. Its capital is Pikine. Pikine is a city in the Pikine Department of the Dakar Region of Senegal. Lying to the east of Dakar city centre, at the 2013 Census it had a population of 1,170,791. The department includes the villages of Yeumbeul, Thiaroye, Mbao, and Keur Massar Malika. Until the mid-2000s, it also included Guédiawaye, which now forms a separate Department. The city was founded in 1952 by the colonial government for former residents of Dakar who were relocated for new developments. This original city is now known as "Old Pikine", while an informal community has grown up around it. The Grande Niaye de Pikine, a green area known for market gardening, lies to the north west of Pikine.

Keur Massar department is one of the 46 departments of Senegal, located at the entrance to the Cap-Vert peninsula, east of Dakar.

Cap-Vert is a volcanic field in Senegal with a surface of 100 square kilometres (39 sq mi). The field covers the Cape Verde peninsula close to Dakar and was active until 600,000 years ago. It consists of a number of outcrops and two 100 metres (330 ft) high hills. The position of the dykes and lava flows has been influenced by local fault systems.

Guédiawaye Department is one of the 45 departments of Senegal and one of the four making up Dakar Region on the Cap-Vert peninsula. It comprises a single arrondissement, Guédiawaye Arrondissement, which is subdivided into 5 communes d'arrondissement : Ndiarème-Limamoulaye Golf Sam-Notaire Wakhinane-Nimzatt Médina-GounassPopulationIn the census of December 2002 the population of the department was recorded as 258,370. In 2005, it was estimated at 286,989.

Stade Ngalandou Diouf is a multi-use stadium in Rufisque, Senegal. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as a home ground of ASC Yakaar and Teungueth FC. The stadium holds 7,500 people.

Guédiawaye is a town and département of the Dakar Region of Senegal. Lying on the Atlantic Ocean to the north east of Dakar city centre, in 2013 it had a population of 329,659. Until the mid-2000s, the département was part of Pikine.

The Mbeubeuss Landfill (French: Décharge de Mbeubeuss), also Mbeubeuss Rubbish Dump is a solid waste disposal site in Senegal. It is the main solid waste disposal site for the capital city of Dakar, with a projected population of approximately 4 million people, as of 2022, serving the homes, businesses and industries of that metropolis. The landfill hosts an estimated 4,000 scavengers looking for anything recyclable, primarily plastic. The landfill has been in existence since 1968, however the Senegalese authorities propose to shut it down and set up smaller recycling centers instead.

The Rufisque tramway (French Le Decauville Municipal de Rufisque) was a 14 km (8.7 mi) long, hand-operated light railway with track gauges of 400 mm (15+3⁄4 in) and 600 mm (1 ft 11+5⁄8 in) in Rufisque in Senegal.

The Historical Museum of Senegal in Gorée (French: Musée historique du Sénégal à Gorée) is a museum attached to the Institut fondamental d'Afrique noire (IFAN) and located on the island of Gorée, in the bay of Dakar, Senegal. The museum is dedicated to showing and commemorating the different stages of Senegal's history from ancient times to the country's independence.
