Keur Massar department is one of the 46 departments of Senegal, located at the entrance to the Cap-Vert peninsula, east of Dakar.

Dakar Region (French: Région de Dakar) is the smallest and most populated Region of Senegal, encompassing the capital city of the country, Dakar, and all its suburbs along the Cap–Vert Peninsula, Africa's most westerly point.

Lake Retba, also known as Lac Rose (meaning "pink lake"), lies north of the Cap Vert peninsula in Senegal, some 35 km (22 mi) north-east of the capital, Dakar, in northwest Africa. It is named for its pink waters caused by Dunaliella salina algae and is known for its high salt content, up to 40% in some areas. Its colour is usually particularly strong from late January to early March, during the dry season. However, flooding in September 2022 not only disrupted salt harvesting activities on the lake, but also led the lake to lose its colour, causing a negative effect on tourism. The lake is as of 2023 under consideration by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Thiaroye (or Tiaroye) is the name of a historic town in Sénégal, situated in the suburbs of Dakar, on the southeast coast of the Cap-Vert peninsula, between Pikine and Rufisque. Since the administrative reform in 1996, Thiaroye has been divided into independent communes, Thiaroye-Gare, Thiaroye-sur-Mer and Thiaroye-Kao (or Djiddah Thiaroye Kao), with Guinaw-Rail Nord, Guinaw-Rail Sud (both to the west), and Tivaouane-Diacksao (to the east) split off and separating Thiaroye-sur-Mer from the other two inland communes.

The Thiaroye massacre (French: Massacre de Thiaroye; pronounced [tja.ʁwa]) was a massacre of French West African veterans of the 1940 Battle of France, by French forces on the morning of 1 December 1944. These Tirailleurs Sénégalais units had been recently liberated from prisoner camps and after being repatriated to West Africa, they mutinied against poor conditions and defaulted pay at the Thiaroye military camp, on the outskirts of Dakar, Senegal. Between 35 and over 300 people were killed.

Stade Ngalandou Diouf is a multi-use stadium in Rufisque, Senegal. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as a home ground of ASC Yakaar and Teungueth FC. The stadium holds 7,500 people.

Guédiawaye Department is one of the 45 departments of Senegal and one of the four making up Dakar Region on the Cap-Vert peninsula. It comprises a single arrondissement, Guédiawaye Arrondissement, which is subdivided into 5 communes d'arrondissement : Ndiarème-Limamoulaye Golf Sam-Notaire Wakhinane-Nimzatt Médina-GounassPopulationIn the census of December 2002 the population of the department was recorded as 258,370. In 2005, it was estimated at 286,989.

Guédiawaye is a town and département of the Dakar Region of Senegal. Lying on the Atlantic Ocean to the north east of Dakar city centre, in 2013 it had a population of 329,659. Until the mid-2000s, the département was part of Pikine.

Cap-Vert is a volcanic field in Senegal with a surface of 100 square kilometres (39 sq mi). The field covers the Cape Verde peninsula close to Dakar and was active until 600,000 years ago. It consists of a number of outcrops and two 100 metres (330 ft) high hills. The position of the dykes and lava flows has been influenced by local fault systems.

The Rufisque tramway (French Le Decauville Municipal de Rufisque) was a 14 km (8.7 mi) long, hand-operated light railway with track gauges of 400 mm (15+3⁄4 in) and 600 mm (1 ft 11+5⁄8 in) in Rufisque in Senegal.

Rufisque Department is one of the 45 departments of Senegal and one of the four which make up the Dakar Region. There are six urban communes within the department: Bargny, Sébikotane, Diamniadio, Jaxaay-Parcelle-Niakoul Rap, Sangalkam and Sendou. The rest of the department is divided into two arrondissements. Rufisque Arrondissement is subdivided into three communes de arrondissement, Rufisque Est, Rufisque Nord and Rufisque Ouest. Bambylor Arrondissement is subdivided into 3 rural districts (communautés rurales); Yéne Bambylor Tivaouane Peulh-Niaga

Rufisque (Arabic: روفيسك; Wolof: Tëngeéj) is a city in the Dakar region of western Senegal, at the base of the Cap-Vert Peninsula. It has a population of 179,797 (2002 census). In the past it was an important port city in its own right, but is now a suburb of Dakar. Rufisque is also the capital of the department of the same name and lies 25 kilometres (16 mi) east of Dakar, the capital of Senegal.
