Waldensian Presbyterian Church is a historic Waldensian church at 104 East Main Street in Valdese, Burke County, North Carolina.

Valdese Elementary School, also known as the Old Rock School, is a historic school building located at Valdese, Burke County, North Carolina. It was built in 1922–1923, and is a two-story, fieldstone four square building with a hipped roof. It features a T-shaped clerestory above the auditorium space. It was constructed largely by Waldensian settlers from Northern Italy. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The Old Rock School is now home to several community organizations and events, including Bluegrass concerts, the Old Colony Players, the Rock School Art Galleries, Old Rock School Railway Museum, and Valdese Travel and Tourism.

Jean-Pierre Auguste Dalmas House is a historic home located in Valdese, Burke County, North Carolina. It was built between 1929 and 1948, and is a 3-story, banked frame dwelling with a river rock and fieldstone foundation and veneer. It was constructed by a Waldensian immigrant from Northern Italy, Jean-Pierre Dalmas (1878-1972). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Dye Branch is a small creek that runs from Duke University's East Campus, through the Trinity Heights, Walltown, and Old West Durham neighborhoods of Durham, North Carolina. From its headwaters near the Food Lion grocery store on Hillsborough Road, Dye Branch (also known as South Ellerbe Creek) flows for three miles (5 km) through some of Durham's oldest and most densely developed neighborhoods: Old West Durham, Walltown, Northgate Park, and Trinity Park. South Ellerbe joins Ellerbe Creek in a small forest—just northwest of the I-85/Roxboro Road interchange. Along some wooded stretches, the creek quietly flows over rocks and is as scenic as any in western North Carolina. In other areas, South Ellerbe is a troubled creek. Its history is marred by rampant pollution and devastating abuse. Though community organizations have arisen to advocate on behalf of the small drainage in recent years, future developments pose significant challenges.

Rutherford College is a town in Burke County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 1,341. It is part of the Hickory–Lenoir–Morganton metropolitan area. The town was named for the college that was once located there, Rutherford College, which operated from the 1850s until the 1930s. The campus was later purchased by Valdese General Hospital.
