The Shandaken Tunnel is an aqueduct in Eastern New York State, part of the New York City water supply system. It was constructed between 1916 and 1924. The tunnel starts in Gilboa, New York at the Schoharie Reservoir, which is in the counties of Schoharie, Delaware, and Greene. The water flows south towards the Esopus Creek in Ulster County. It finally empties into a man-made pool in Allaben, New York, within the Town of Shandaken, and enters Esopus Creek there. The tunnel is over 18 miles (29 km) in length, and carries water through Greene County and Ulster County. Water flows through the tunnel by gravity; it slopes at a rate of 4.4 feet per mile (83 cm/km). It is 11.5 feet (3.5 m) high, and 10.2 feet (3.1 m) wide. There are seven shafts along the tunnel, serving to aerate the water and provide an outlet for dissolved impurities to escape as gasses.

Broadstreet Hollow Creek or Broadstreet Hollow Brook is a river in New York. It begins in the town of Lexington in Greene County, and flows south, through the town of Shandaken in Ulster County then converges with the Esopus Creek.The creek was named after Major John Bradstreet, an officer in the English Army during the French and Indian War, who is known for attacking Fort Frontenac.

Garfield Mountain is a mountain located in the Catskill Mountains of New York south of Allaben. Fork Ridge is located south, Sheridan Mountain is located east-northeast, and Romer Mountain is located southeast of Garfield Mountain.

Birch Creek flows into Esopus Creek in Big Indian. Most of Belleayre Ski Resort is located within Birch Creek’s watershed, and therefore the runoff from the ski resorts snowpack drains into Birch Creek via Cathedral Brook.

Big Indian is a hamlet within the Town of Shandaken in Ulster County, New York, United States. It is located along State Route 28, within the Catskill Park, 17 miles (27 km) west of Woodstock. The Esopus Creek flows through the area, as Birch Creek feeds in from the north. Big Indian Hollow is located slightly to the west, while Big Indian Mountain sits to the southwest.

Rose Mountain is a mountain located in the Catskill Mountains of New York northeast of Pine Hill. Monka Hill is located west of Rose Mountain and Halcott Mountain is located north.

The station at Big Indian, MP 36.4, was another Ulster and Delaware Railroad station. It served the town of Big Indian, New York, and was at the bottom of the Pine Hill Grade. At this stop, a second or third locomotive was coupled to the train to help it up the grade to Grand Hotel station. A water tower was located here along with a turntable for turning steam locomotives. This station saw its last train in 1954, when the station was closed down and abandoned. This station survived until being razed by the State of New York during the reconstruction of Route 28 in the late 1960s. All that is left on the station grounds that shows that anything was there is a rather barren area next to the Big Indian Post Office. A careful observer can also locate the base of the old water tower south of the railroad and west of Route 28. The tracks that run adjacent to the former station site are now leased to the Catskill Mountain Railroad.

Panther Mountain is one of the Catskill High Peaks, located in the Town of Shandaken in Ulster County, New York. At approximately 3,720 feet (1,130 m) in elevation, it is the 18th highest in the range. A combination of factors has led some geologists to believe the mountain is on the site of an ancient meteorite impact crater. Its proximity to Slide Mountain, the highest Catskill peak, the relatively short distance required to climb the mountain from the south and the excellent views available from the mountain and nearby Giant Ledge have made Panther one of the most popular hikes in the range. Aspiring members of the Catskill Mountain 3500 Club must climb it twice, at least once during winter.

Balsam Mountain is a mountain located in the Catskill Mountains of New York south-southwest of Pine Hill. It was formally known as Sheril Mountain. Mount Sherrill is located east-southeast, and Halcott Mountain is located west-southwest of Balsam Mountain.

Sheridan Mountain is a mountain located in the Catskill Mountains of New York north-northwest of Phoenicia. Fork Ridge is located southwest, and Romer Mountain is located south of Sheridan Mountain.

Halcott Mountain is one of the Catskill Mountains of the U.S. state of New York. It is mostly located in Greene County, with some of its lower slopes in Delaware and Ulster counties. Its exact summit elevation has not been officially determined, but the highest contour line on the mountain is 3,520 feet (1,070 m). It is one of the peaks on the divide between the Delaware and Hudson watersheds. As one of the Catskill High Peaks above 3,500 feet (1,100 m) in elevation, a successful ascent of Halcott is required for peakbaggers seeking to join the Catskill Mountain 3500 Club. It is on public land, part of the Catskill Park Forest Preserve, but has no trail. Hikers bushwhack through the relatively open woods to sign the canister at the summit and prove their climb. It is considered one of the easiest of the 13 trailless High Peaks.
