Martinsburg, New York

Gen. Walter Martin House is a historic home located at Martinsburg in Lewis County, New York. It was built in 1805 and consists of the original two story, hip roofed, stone Federal main block with Greek Revival wings added about 1835. The front features a projecting center pavilion surmounted by a triangular pediment. It was the home of General Walter Martin (1766–1834), founder and namesake of the town of Martinsburg. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Martinsburg Town Hall, also known as First Lewis County Courthouse, is a historic town hall located at Martinsburg in Lewis County, New York. It was built in 1812 as Lewis County Courthouse and is the oldest public building in Lewis County. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, clapboard-sided, Georgian-inspired, Federal-period building with architecturally sensitive Victorian-period alterations. Italianate-style alterations were carried out in 1870 and included the pedimented projecting pavilion with palladian window. It was at this time the building was used as the Martin Institute; in the 1890s it became the town hall. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Watson is a town in Lewis County, New York, United States. The population was 1,802 at the 2020 census. The town is named after early landowner James Watson. The town is at the eastern border of the county and is east of Lowville, the county seat.

Methodist Episcopal Church of West Martinsburg, also known as West Martinsburg Methodist Church, is a historic Methodist Episcopal church located at West Martinsburg in Lewis County, New York. It dates to about 1840 and is of frame construction with clapboard siding. It is rectangular in plan with a simple gable roof. It features a two-stage bell tower surmounted by a steeple. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Lowville is a village in Lewis County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 3,470. The village is in the Black River Valley, between the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and the Tug Hill Plateau, in an area often referred to as the North Country. It is located in the center of Lewis County, in the southeastern part of the similarly named town of Lowville. Lowville is the county seat of Lewis County. The name of both the village and town is derived from Nicholas Low, an early landowner of Dutch descent, who had emigrated with his wife and three small children from a rural village outside of Amsterdam in 1778.

The Lowville Masonic Temple is a historic Colonial Revival building located in Lowville, New York. The building was constructed in 1928 as a meeting hall for the local Masonic lodge. In 2002 it was sold to the Lewis County Historical Society, and was used as a local history museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 19, 2012.

Stoddard–O'Connor House is a historic home located at Lowville in Lewis County, New York. It was built in 1898, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, asymmetrical frame dwelling with Queen Anne and Colonial Revival style design elements. It features a half-height entry porch and projecting stacked bay. Also on the property is a contributing carriage house (c. 1900). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

The Bateman Hotel, previously known as Howell Hotel or Kellogg Hotel, located in Lowville, New York, is now a conglomerate of condos. At one time, it was a hotel with a kitchen, a dining room, and a saloon. The hotel is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The town is near the center of the county and is southeast of the city of Watertown. The town of Lowville contains a village also named Lowville, which is the county seat. The town is named after Nicholas Low, an early landowner. Low was of Dutch descent, and had emigrated with his wife and three small children from a rural village outside Amsterdam in 1778. Despite popular folk etymology, the name Lowville has nothing to do with its low elevation or the lowing cattle of the many nearby dairy farms.
