The John Robertson Jr. House is a historic house at 145 W. Main Street in Barrington, Illinois. The house was built in 1898 for John Robertson Jr., a local banker and a member of Barrington's village board. Carpenter Fred Lines built the house, which has an American Foursquare plan with Neoclassical details. The 2+1⁄2-story house has a roughly rectangular layout with a service addition, front and side porches, and a dormer projecting from the front of its hip roof, a typical Foursquare layout. Its Neoclassical elements include Corinthian columns supporting the porches, swags and garlands adorning several windows, and multiple Palladian windows.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 22, 2014.

The Barrington Historic District is a 92-acre (37 ha) historic district in Barrington, Illinois. The district encompasses a residential area in southwest Barrington and is roughly bounded by the Chicago and Northwestern Railway tracks to the north, Dundee Avenue to the west, E. Hillside and W. Coolidge Streets to the south, and S. Spring and S. Grove Streets to the east. The large majority of the district is in Cook County, but about one square block is in Lake County, Illinois.

St. Anne Catholic Community is a Roman Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of Chicago located in suburban Barrington, Illinois approximately thirty-two miles northwest of Chicago. Originally dedicated in 1884, St. Anne is the only Catholic parish in the Barrington area.In 2000, the church was expanded significantly to accommodate its 3,700+ registered parishioner families; at the time, its Campus Development Plan was the largest in the modern history of the Archdiocese. Rev. Bernie Pietrzak is the current pastor, replacing Rev. John "Jack" Dewes, who served the community through 2009.

The Battle of Barrington was an intense and deadly gunfight between federal agents and notorious Great Depression Era outlaw Baby Face Nelson, that took place on November 27, 1934 in Northside Park, in the town of Barrington, outside Chicago, Illinois. It resulted in the deaths of Nelson, Federal Agent Herman "Ed" Hollis and Agent/Inspector Samuel P. Cowley.

The station is located at 201 South Spring Street in Barrington, and is 31.9 miles (51.3 km) from Ogilvie Transportation Center, the southern terminus of the Union Pacific Northwest Line. In Metra's zone-based fare structure, Barrington is located in Zone G. As of 2018, Barrington is the 16th busiest of the 236 non-downtown stations on the Metra system, with an average of 1,725 weekday boardings. Barrington has two tracks and two side platforms; it is the southernmost station on the Union Pacific Northwest Line without a third express track, which begins about a quarter mile southeast of the station near Baker Lake. It is also the last station outbound within Cook County. A station house where tickets may be purchased is on the inbound platform. Parking is available at the station. As of May 30, 2023, Barrington is served by 65 trains (34 inbound, 31 outbound) on weekdays, by 33 trains (16 inbound, all 17 outbound) on Saturdays, and by 20 trains (nine inbound, all 11 outbound) on Sundays. On weekdays, four inbound trains originate, and three outbound trains terminate, at Barrington. On Saturdays, one inbound train originates, and two outbound trains terminate, at Barrington.

The Barrington Area Library, located at 505 N. Northwest Highway in Barrington, Illinois, serves the approximately 42,157 residents of the Barrington Public Library District. The largest geographic public library district in Illinois, the Barrington Public Library District covers a 72-square-mile (190 km2) area in Cook, Lake, Kane, and McHenry counties, and encompasses all or part of the communities of Barrington, Barrington Hills, Deer Park, Lake Barrington, North Barrington, South Barrington, Tower Lakes, Algonquin, Fox River Grove, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Kildeer, Lake Zurich, Palatine, Port Barrington, and some unincorporated areas. Located in the center of the library district, the 60,000-square-foot (5,600 m2) library building houses a collection of 330,000 books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, audio and video downloads, and other items. The library's park-like campus includes a sculpture garden, and a series of gardens designed to spotlight native plants. Wi-fi service is available throughout the building and grounds. Advanced self-check out and return systems are used, along with 3D printing services. The library presents cultural events, an art gallery, book discussions for all ages, computer and technology classes, business workshops, and a wide variety of children's programming in the library's meeting rooms, which are also used for meetings by over 300 nonprofit community organizations. Annual circulation is approximately 1,186,681, and more than 415,242 people visit the library each year.

The Jewel Tea Company, Inc. building was a historic building at 511 Lake Zurich Road in Barrington, Illinois. The building was built in 1920-30 as a new headquarters for the Jewel Tea Company, which operated the Jewel supermarket chain. The building was used as the company's main offices as well as a manufacturing plant for several of Jewel's products, including coffee and tea. At the time, it was unusual for companies to relocate from the city to the suburbs, and Jewel's relocation to Barrington had a considerable economic impact on the village. Architecture firm Holabird & Root designed the building using a combination of the Art Deco and Moderne styles.The company was bought by American Stores, inc in 1984 and was later added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 3, 2004. It was demolished later in the same year. and was removed from the National Register in 2020.

The George E. Van Hagen House is a historic house at 12 W. County Line Road in Barrington Hills, Illinois. The house was built circa 1912 for George Ely Van Hagen, the president of the Standard Forgings Company, and his wife Mary Wakefield Lewis Van Hagen, the granddaughter of President William Henry Harrison. Large country estates in rural suburbs such as Barrington Hills were popular with the wealthy in the early twentieth century; Van Hagen used his house's grounds for a gentleman's farm and fox hunting, typical pastimes of estate owners. Architect John Nyden gave the house an Arts and Crafts style design with Federal Revival elements. The house's design uses the simple geometric forms typical of Arts and Crafts designs throughout, with plain cylindrical columns, diamond and rectangular patterned panels, and semicircular arches atop the entrance and several windows. The Federal Revival elements are largely confined to the interior and include a plasterwork dining room ceiling, a mosaic fireplace surround, and cabinets inspired by Palladian windows.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 12, 2016.

The Grigsby Estate is a historic estate and hobby farm at 125 Buckley Road in Barrington Hills, Illinois. The house was built in 1930 for Bertram James Grigsby, an electrical engineer and president of a radio manufacturing company, and his wife Elsie. Architecture firm Rowe, Dillard and Rowe designed the estate's Tudor Revival manor house for the couple, a style which reflected the couple's time in England; Elsie was born there, while Bertram worked there for several years. The house's design features an asymmetrical form, half-timbering, decorative brickwork, and several brick chimneys. The estate also includes a guest house, a garage, a greenhouse, a farmhouse, a barn, a milkhouse, a firefighting shed, and a machinery shed. The estate was typical of early development in the Barrington Hills area, which mainly consisted of estates and hobby farms that were often inspired by English country life.The estate was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 12, 1987.
