Wells Fargo Center (Sacramento)

The Capitol Mall or Capitol Mall Boulevard is a major street and landscaped parkway in the state capital city of Sacramento, California. It connects the city of West Sacramento in Yolo County to Downtown Sacramento. Capitol Mall begins at the eastern approach to the Tower Bridge, and runs east to 10th Street and the California State Capitol.

Bank of the West Tower, also known as Five Hundred Capitol Mall, is a 25-story 433,508-square-foot (40,274.2 m2) high-rise in downtown Sacramento, California with a 10-level, 800 stall parking garage. The building consists of a 5-story atrium/lobby, ground floor retail, office space, and a 2-level penthouse restaurant or meeting facility. The structure has a steel frame and features a granite curtain wall with stone-on-precast and stone-on-truss panels on the exterior. The building, opened for business and welcomed its first tenant on May 26, 2009.

The Towers on Capitol Mall were two 53-story, 615 foot (187 m) mixed-use towers to be built in downtown Sacramento, California. The buildings (The Towers on Capitol Mall I & II) were planned to have 804 condominia, a 200 room InterContinental Hotel, and ground floor retail. Rumoured retailers include Gucci, Prada, Kenneth Cole and Tiffany & Co. The Towers are notable due to the massive scope and scale of the building, and it would have easily surpassed the city's current tallest building, the 423 foot (129 m) Wells Fargo Center. The project had been on hold since January 7, 2007 due to liens being filed against developer John Saca, totaling $7.3 million. Calpers and Deustche Bank have been the primary financial support for the project, however stipulating conditions have led to the collapse of the project. CalPERS is now teaming up with Los Angeles-based CIM to develop the downtown Sacramento block into a similar but smaller high-rise construction project consisting of a hotel, condominia and office space. The project would incorporate the original foundation piles that were driven into the bedrock in 2006 to support the weight of the 615-foot (187 m) skyscrapers.

The Nihon Shōgakkō fire, or Japanese mission school fire, was a racially motivated arson that killed ten children in Sacramento, California, on April 15, 1923 at the dormitory of a Buddhist boarding school for students of Japanese ancestry. Fortunato Valencia Padilla, a Mexican-American itinerant from the Rio Grande Valley, admitted to committing the arson after his arrest in July 1923. Padilla confessed to at least 25 other fires in California, 13 of which were committed against Japanese households and Japanese-owned properties. Padilla was indicted on first-degree murder charges for the school fire on September 1, 1923, in Sacramento, with the prosecution seeking capital punishment. He was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was incarcerated at Folsom State Prison and later San Quentin State Prison; he died in 1970.

Nisei Memorial VFW Post 8985 was founded in 1947 by Japanese-American World War II veterans of the 442nd RCT and the Military Intelligence Service in Sacramento, California. Its members would form the first of 14 segregated Nisei VFW posts chartered in California. The post's clubhouse, originally built as a restaurant, was purchased with assistance from the local JACL in 1955, and is now the last remaining property associated with what was once Sacramento's historic Japantown.

Weinstock's, originally Weinstock, Lubin, and Co., was an American department store chain headquartered in Sacramento, California. It was founded by Harris Weinstock and his half-brother, David Lubin. The chain was purchased by Hale's in 1949, becoming part of Broadway-Hale Stores, later Carter Hawley Hale. In 1978, Weinstock's expanded into Utah by rebranding its sister chain The Broadway's location at Fashion Place in Murray into that name, with two stores later in Ogden and Salt Lake City. In 1991, Weinstock's operations were later assumed by its other sister chain The Emporium. In 1993, Weinstock's closed its three Utah stores, eventually bringing Dillard's to Utah for the first time with its first store in Murray's former location. The chain was later purchased by Federated Department Stores (now Macy's, Inc.) in 1995, resulting in most of the Weinstock's stores to be converted to Macy's. Some of the remaining stores were either closed or sold, with two of them to Gottschalks, at Vintage Faire Mall in Modesto and Fashion Fair in Fresno. This also brought Dillard's to California for the first time with its new store built on the former Weinstock's site at Weberstown Mall in Stockton.

The Crocker Art Museum is the oldest art museum in the Western United States, located in Sacramento, California. Founded in 1885, the museum holds one of the premier collections of Californian art. The collection includes American works dating from the Gold Rush to the present, European paintings and master drawings, one of the largest international ceramics collections in the U.S., and collections of Asian, African, and Oceanic art. The Crocker Art Museum has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, a high standard for US museums.

U.S. Bank Tower (also called 621 Capitol Mall) is a 25-story, 404-foot (123 m) building in Sacramento, California. The office tower is located at 621 Capitol Mall and was completed in early 2008. U.S. Bank bought the naming rights and 34,000 sq ft (3,200 m2) of office space.The building's architect is Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum, Inc. (HOK) and the general contractor is Hensel Phelps Construction. The building has a series of LED screens on the top that seem to form a flowing river or waterway at night, with colors changing from light/dark blues to purples. They are easily seen since this building is the second tallest in Sacramento. This artwork was created by Michael Hayden of Santa Rosa, California, and is a companion to an LED installation in the lobby of the building by the same artist.

Golden 1 Center is an indoor arena, located in downtown Sacramento, California, United States. It sits partially on the site of the former Downtown Plaza shopping center. The publicly owned arena is part of a business and entertainment district called Downtown Commons (DoCo), which includes a $250 million 16-story mixed-use tower. The arena, which replaced ARCO Arena as the home of the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association, hosts concerts, conventions and other sporting and entertainment events. Capacity is expandable to about 19,000 to accommodate concert audiences. Thirty-four luxury suites were sold to include all events year-round. Suite partners have access to three exclusive clubs on the premium level including two skyboxes that overlook the concourse and have a direct view of the outside. In addition to the luxury suites, there are also 48 loft-style suites.

Downtown Commons (or DOCO), formerly known as Sacramento Downtown Plaza, Westfield (Shoppingtown) Downtown Plaza and Downtown Plaza, is a two-level outdoor mixed-use entertainment and shopping complex operated by JMA Ventures, LLC, located along the alignment of K Street (also known as David J. Stern Walk between 5th and 7th Streets) in downtown Sacramento, California, United States, near the State Capitol building. The complex is bordered by J Street to the north, L Street to the south, 7th Street to the east and 4th Street to the west. Downtown Commons' previous format was a mainly two-level outdoor shopping mall commonly known as Downtown Plaza, despite numerous official name changes over the years. The majority of the site has been redeveloped, centering on the Golden 1 Center, home of the NBA's Sacramento Kings. The section between 5th and 7th Streets was demolished in 2014 to make room for the Golden 1 Center, as well as The Sawyer, a 250-room boutique hotel operated by Kimpton Hotels immediately north of the arena site. The remaining standing section between 4th and 5th Streets was also redeveloped a few years later in association with the arena project.

Western Hotel, was an historical hotel in Sacramento, California. The site of the former hotel is an California Historical Landmark No. 601 listed on May 22, 1957. The Western Hotel was at/near the intersection of 2nd street and K Street, Sacramento and owned by William Land. The site is now a Parking lot under the Interstate 5 in California.The site has had two hotels built at the location: An 1853 Hotel, and later the second Western Hotel, was built on the site in 1875 by William Land. The 1875 Hotel was one of the largest and grandest hotels in the western states at the time of completion. The 1854 Hotel supported the California Gold Rush Pioneers, it was built two blocks from the Sacramento waterfront and Central Pacific Railroad station. The 1875 building was removed when the Interstate 5 highway was built though the town in the 1960s. The original Sacramento Bee Building, California Historical Landmark No. 611 was also taken down at the same time.

Overton Building was a historical two-story building in Sacramento, California. The site of former Overton Building is a California Historical Landmark No. 610 listed on May 22, 1956. This site is now a Parking lot near the corner of 2nd street and J Street in Old Sacramento State Historic Park. The Overton Building was removed when the Interstate 5 freeway was built in the 1960s. The historical Western Hotel, D.O. Mills Bank and the original Sacramento Bee building were also taken down for the I-5 freeway. The Overton Building first housed a number of California state offices including: the California Governor's Office and the California Secretary of State. The building, on the lot before the Overton Building, was lost in a fire on November 2, 1852. The first California State Library was housed on the second floor from 1853 to 1856. The building was built by the bankers, Read & Company at a cost $105,000 in 1852. In the 1950s and early 1960s Overton Building was the Rialto Hotel and Rialto Cafe.
