Grandmother Gap

Grandfather is a village in Avery County, North Carolina, United States. It is the namesake of Grandfather Mountain. The village is a fully gated community within Grandfather Golf and Country Club, located along NC 105. The population was 24 at the 2020 census.

The Linn Cove Viaduct is a 1,243 feet (379 m) long, concrete segmental bridge which snakes around Grandfather Mountain in western North Carolina. Completed in 1983 at a cost of $10 million, it was one of the last major construction projects on the Blue Ridge Parkway which runs 469 miles (755 km) linking Shenandoah National Park to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Built mostly along the spine of the Blue Ridge, the parkway was fully completed and opened for through traffic in 1987.

Linville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Avery County, North Carolina, United States. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 283. Centered just south of US 221 and NC 105, the community is known as a summer mountain resort and host of the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, the largest modern Highland games events in North Carolina.

Grandfather Mountain is a mountain, a non-profit attraction, and a North Carolina state park near Linville, North Carolina. At 5,946 feet (1,812 m), it is the highest peak on the eastern escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains, one of the major chains of the Appalachian Mountains. (Nearby Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, is on the western escarpment.) The Blue Ridge Parkway passes by the south side of the mountain and also passes over the nearby Grandmother Gap. It is located at the meeting point of Avery, Caldwell (highest point), and Watauga (highest point) counties.

Brier Knob is a mountain in the North Carolina High Country, at the Linville community. It is wholly in the Pisgah National Forest. Its elevation reaches 4,085 feet (1,245 m). Feeder streams from the mountain flow directly into the Linville River. Brier Knob is considered the northern limit of Linville, it is flanked by NC 105 to the east and West Fork Road to the west. Unlike other mountains that surround it, there is not development on the summit of Brier Knob.

Flattop Mountain is a mountain in the North Carolina High Country, at the village of Sugar Mountain. It is wholly in the Pisgah National Forest. Its elevation reaches 4,944 feet (1,507 m). Feeder streams from the mountain flow directly into the Linville River, except along the north slope where Flattop Creek flows directly into the Elk River; the mountain is partitioned by the Eastern Continental Divide. Because of its adjacent proximity, it has been mistaken as part of Sugar Mountain.

Peak Mountain is a mountain in the North Carolina High Country, near the town of Seven Devils. It is known by several other names such as Tynecastle Peak, Invershiel Peak and Dunvegan Peak. It is wholly in the Pisgah National Forest. Its elevation reaches 4,921 feet (1,500 m). The headwaters of the Elk River begins from the Northwestern slopes of the mountain; along the Southwestern slopes, it shares with Sugar Mountain and Flattop Mountain as the headwaters of the Linville River; along the Southeastern slopes, it shares with Grandfather Mountain as the headwaters of the Watauga River.

Sugar Mountain is a village in Avery County, North Carolina, United States. The village is located on Sugar Mountain's north slope. The population was 198 at the 2010 census.

Sugar Mountain is a mountain in the North Carolina High Country and wholly in the Pisgah National Forest. Its elevation reaches 5,236 feet (1,596 m) and is split along the Eastern Continental Divide, generating feeder streams for the Linville, Elk, and North Toe rivers. On its north slope resides the Village of Sugar Mountain.

Gragg is an unincorporated community in Avery County, North Carolina, United States, spanning approximately one-half mile in radius from the intersection of Edgemont Road and Globe Road. Gragg can be accessed from US 221 via mile marker #305 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The area was originally known as "'Carey's Flat'".

Gragg House is a historic home located near Blowing Rock, Watauga County, North Carolina. It dates back to the mid-19th century, and is a one-story, log dwelling. It has a saddle bag plan and features a central stone chimney. It has a two-room later addition which gives the house an L-shaped plan.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Seven Devils is a town in Avery and Watauga counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The population was 313 at the 2020 census. The town, which is located in the Appalachian Mountains, is best known as the site of a popular wintertime tubing resort known as Hawksnest, which claims it has the largest tubing facility on the East Coast, and some of the town's year round residents earn their living at the resort. Many others are retirees. Developed in the 1970s as a vacation home community, Seven Devils is home mostly to seasonal residents.
