Hampstead, New Hampshire

The Hampstead Meetinghouse, also once known as Hampstead Town Hall, is a historic meeting house at 20 Emerson Avenue in Hampstead, New Hampshire. The core of this dual-purpose (religious and civic) structure was begun in 1749, although its interior was not completely finished until about 1768. It is one of a number of fairly well-preserved 18th-century meeting houses in southeastern New Hampshire, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Island Pond (sometimes referred to locally as Big Island Pond) is a 532-acre (215 ha) water body located in Rockingham County in southern New Hampshire, in the towns of Derry, Hampstead and Atkinson. The pond is at the head of the Spicket River watershed, which feeds into the Merrimack River in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The pond was formed from the merger of Perch Pond in Hampstead and Lake Wentworth in Derry in 1878, when a new dam raised the water level by 8.5 feet (2.6 m).The pond is named for Governor's Island, a 231-acre (90 ha) island that lies within it. The island in turn is named for Benning Wentworth, colonial governor of New Hampshire, who built a summer residence on the north end of the island called Birch Farm. A smaller island is named after the Native American chief Escumbuit.The lake is classified as a cold and warmwater fishery and contains largemouth and smallmouth bass, brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, chain pickerel, horned pout, white perch, black crappie, and bluegill.

Hampstead Academy is a private, independent day school situated on a wooded 9-acre (36,000 m2) campus in southeastern New Hampshire. Established in 1978, Hampstead Academy is approved by the New Hampshire State Department of Education, and Health and Human Services (DHHS), and is fully accredited by New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and is SEVIS certified. The school serves students in preschool through grade 8.

America's Stonehenge is a privately owned tourist attraction and archaeological site consisting of a number of large rocks and stone structures scattered around roughly 30 acres (12 hectares) within the town of Salem, New Hampshire, in the United States. It is open to the public for a fee as part of a recreational area which includes snowshoe trails and an alpaca farm. A number of hypotheses exist as to the origin and purpose of the structures. One viewpoint is a mixture of land-use practices of local farmers in the 18th and 19th centuries and construction of structures by owner William Goodwin, an insurance executive who purchased the area in 1937. Some claim that the site has a pre-Columbian European origin, but this is regarded as pseudoarchaeological. Archaeologist David Starbuck has said: "It is widely believed that Goodwin may have 'created' much of what is visible at the site today.": 106 The site was first dubbed Mystery Hill by William Goodwin. This was the official name of the site until 1982, when it was renamed "America's Stonehenge", a term coined in a news article in the early 1960s. The rebranding was an effort to separate it from roadside oddity sites and to reinforce the idea that it is an ancient archaeological site. The area is named after Stonehenge in England, although there is no evidence of cultural or historical connection between the two. It is mentioned, as Mystery Hill, on New Hampshire Historical Marker No. 72.

East Hampstead is an unincorporated community in the town of Hampstead in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. It is located near the northeast corner of the town of Hampstead, at the intersection of New Hampshire Route 111 and Route 121A. Route 111 connects Salem to the southwest with Kingston to the northeast, while Route 121A is a local road which connects with Sandown to the northwest and Plaistow to the southeast. East Hampstead has a separate ZIP code (03826) from the rest of the town of Hampstead.

Atkinson Academy is a public elementary school at 17 Academy Avenue in Atkinson, New Hampshire. It is a part of the Timberlane Regional School District. Built in 1803, it is claimed to be the oldest standing co-educational school in the United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Atkinson is a town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 7,087 at the 2020 census.

North Salem is a section of the town of Salem in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. It occupies the northernmost portion of the town and is located at the northern end of Arlington Mill Reservoir. Although there are some shops and other businesses, it is mostly a residential area. The community is bypassed by New Hampshire Route 111, which travels northeast to Hampstead and Kingston, and southwest to Windham and Hudson. North Salem has a separate ZIP code (03073, P.O. boxes only) from other areas in the town of Salem.

Arlington Mill Reservoir, known locally as "Arlington Pond", is a 269-acre (109 ha) impoundment located in Rockingham County in southern New Hampshire, United States, in the town of Salem. It is located along the Spicket River, a small stream that flows south to the Merrimack River in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The lake is classified as a warmwater fishery, with observed species including smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, horned pout, white perch, black crappie, and bluegill. There is no public boat access.
