On 11 December 2010, two bombs exploded in central Stockholm, killing the bomber. Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt and the Swedish Security Service (SÄPO) described the bombings as acts of terrorism.Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, an Iraqi-born Swedish citizen, is suspected of carrying out the bombing.According to investigations by FBI, the bombing would likely have killed between 30 and 40 people had it succeeded, and it is thought that al-Abdaly operated with a network.Europol categorized the attack as Islamist terrorism.

Stora Barnhuset (literally: "Great Children's Home"), from 1785 known as Allmänna Barnhuset ("Public Children's Home"), was Sweden's largest orphanage, founded 1633 in Stockholm and active until 1922. The charitable foundation of the orphanage still exists, now supporting research associated with children's care.

On Friday, 28 February 1986, at 23:21 CET (22:21 UTC), Olof Palme, Prime Minister of Sweden, was fatally wounded by a single gunshot while walking home from a cinema with his wife Lisbeth Palme on the central Stockholm street Sveavägen. Lisbeth Palme was slightly wounded by a second shot. The couple did not have bodyguards with them. Christer Pettersson, who had previously been convicted of manslaughter, was convicted of the murder in 1988 after having been identified as the killer by Mrs Palme. However, on appeal to Svea Court of Appeal, he was acquitted. A petition for a new trial, filed by the prosecutor, was denied by the Supreme Court of Sweden. Pettersson died on 29 September 2004, legally declared not guilty of the Palme assassination. On 10 June 2020, chief prosecutor Krister Petersson, in charge of the investigation, announced his conclusion that Stig Engström, also known as the "Skandia Man", was the most likely suspect. No direct evidence was presented but the prosecutor mentioned Engström's past knowledge of weapons, friendship with anti-Palme circles and similar clothes as described by certain witnesses. However, as Engström died on 26 June 2000, and no further investigative or judicial measures were possible, the investigation was officially closed. The decision to name Engström as a suspect was widely criticised. Various different theories about the murder have also been proposed.

Rådmansgatan is an underground station on the Green line of the Stockholm metro. It lies below Sveavägen between its junctions with Rådmansgatan and Rehnsgatan in the district of Vasastaden and borough of Norrmalm in central Stockholm. The station has a single island platform, some 8 metres (26 ft) below street level, and is accessed via a pair of ticket halls at each end of the station. The ticket halls are accessed via staircases and lifts from the street above.The station was opened on 26 October 1952 as a part of the Green line section between Hötorget and Vällingby.The station is decorated with yellow tiles. As part of Art in the Stockholm metro project, the southern entrance to the station, close to the Strindberg Museum, has enamel works dedicated to the life of August Strindberg. These were executed by Sture Valentin Nilsson and date from 1983.

Franska Skolan (English: French School) is a private school located in Stockholm, Sweden. It was founded in 1862. French school (French: École Française) is a school located on Döbelnsgatan 9 in Stockholm, founded in 1862 originally as a girls' school of the Roman Catholic religious congregation Sisters of St. Joseph from France. The school follows the Swedish system of education, but all the students study French. The school's students are mainly Swedish children, but also francophone students study there. The current head principal is Björn Kullgard.

Kungsgatan (Swedish for "King's Street") is a street address in central Stockholm. It was formerly a red-light district and is currently a busy shopping street.At its western end it is connected to Kungsholmen by Kungsbron bridge, from where it stretches east to Stureplan public square. It is intercepted by the streets Vasagatan, Drottninggatan, and Sveavägen. Two streets pass over it: Malmskillnadsgatan on Malmskillnadsbron bridge and Regeringsgatan on the Bridge of Regeringsgatan. Kungsgatan passes by Hötorget public square where Stockholm Concert Hall is located. It is also flanked by two buildings, the Kungstorn (King's towers), each about 60 metres tall. Kungsgatan was dug through the Brunkebergsåsen esker (a natural ridge) in the early 20th century and inaugurated in 1911. Today it is a lively shopping street flanked by cinemas, cafés, and other shopping facilities. Hötorget station, on the Green line of the Stockholm metro, is located at the intersection where Kungsgatan crosses Sveavägen. Between its opening in 1952 and 1957, the station was named Kungsgatan.

Tunnelgatan (Tunnel Street) is a street in Stockholm, Sweden, which stretches from Sveavägen to the Brunkeberg Tunnel. Tunnelgatan was named after the Brunkeberg tunnel which opened in 1886. The previous name was Barnhus trädgårdsgata (Orphanage garden street), after the orphanage at Norra Bantorget. During the 17th century, there was a ropewalk at the place. The only remaining residential building in the street is located at the crossing of Tunnelgatan and Luntmakargatan and was built between 1894 and 1896. Tunnelgatan is associated with the murder of Olof Palme, which occurred near the tunnel mouth on Sveavägen street, and the killer fled up the stairs. A section of the street has since been renamed as Olof Palmes gata. The City Plan 67 intended to expand Tunnelgatan to a six-lane urban highway with continuation through David Bagares gata to Stureplan, and further through Humlegårdsgatan to Norra Djurgården. In the west, a connection to Klarastrandsleden via a bridge over the tracks north of Stockholm Central Station was planned. However the plans were shelved indefinitely when the 1977 City Plan was formulated.

The Embassy of Palestine in Stockholm (Arabic: السفارة الفلسطينية في ستوكهولم); is the diplomatic mission of the State of Palestine in Sweden. It is the first time a Palestinian embassy has ever opened in a western European nation.

PUB was one of the major department stores in Stockholm, Sweden, located in two buildings at Hötorget, Stockholm city center. PUB was opened in 1882 and rapidly expanded. The name PUB is for the initials of Paul Urbanus Bergström, the founder of the store, who owned a great deal of buildings and business in the area. In the late 20th century, the upper 4 storeys of the department store were converted into a hotel: the Rica Hotel Kungsgatan, later the Scandic Hotel Kungsgatan. In 2015, plans were announced to close the last remaining portion of the store and convert the entire building to the Scandic Hotel Haymarket.

Hötorget, formerly known as Kungsgatan, is an underground station on the Green line of the Stockholm metro. It is situated near to the Hötorget square in the borough of Norrmalm in central Stockholm, and lies below Sveavägen between its junctions with Oxtorgsgatan and Apelbergsgatan. The station has three entrances, one at each end and one in the middle from Kungsgatan. The central entrance includes an underground square with several shops and stores. The distance to Slussen is 1.5 km (0.93 mi).The station was inaugurated on 26 October 1952 as the east terminus of the stretch between Hötorget and Vällingby. The line was extended to Slussen on 24 November 1957, thereby connecting west and east sections of the green line. It was called Kungsgatan until 1957. The name was changed to Hötorget when the southern and western tracks were joined as one (by the opening of the stations T-centralen and Gamla Stan through the central city). The station's original 1950s signage and decor have been deliberately retained. As part of Art in the Stockholm metro project, 103 white neon strips have been installed in the platform ceiling. These were executed by Gun Gordillo and date from 1998.

Timbro is a liberal think tank and publishing company located in Stockholm, Sweden. In its present form Timbro was founded in 1978 by Sture Eskilsson and the Swedish Employers’ Association, a precursor to the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise. Since 2003, Timbro is being financed by the Swedish Free Enterprise Foundation. In 2013, the foundation received a renewed financial commitment from the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise to ensure its long-term existence. Timbro has economically liberal and free market leanings; its mission is to promote every individual's right to self-empowerment, and the ideas that individual freedom precedes economic equality, and that political power over individuals and businesses should be minimized.

Norra Latin is the familiar Swedish name of a historic Stockholm school more properly known as Högre allmänna läroverket för gossar å Norrmalm ("public senior secondary school for boys at Norrmalm"). Completed in 1880, for over a hundred years the school, at 71b Drottninggatan in the Norrmalm district of Stockholm, offered an education that emphasized Greek, Latin and classical studies. The school was formed by a merger that included Klara gamla skola on Klara västra kyrkogata and Stockholms gymnasium on the island of Riddarholmen. Although a 1918 resolution declared that the school should be co-educational, girls were in fact not admitted until 1961. In the beginning of the 1980s the building was sold to Landsorganisationen i Sverige, the Swedish Trade Union Confederation, who renovated the building as a modern conference centre, opening in 1989.
