Francestown, New Hampshire

Francestown is a census-designated place (CDP) and the main village in the town of Francestown, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the CDP was 201, out of 1,610 in the entire town.

The Francestown Meetinghouse is a historic meeting house on Route 136 in the center of Francestown, New Hampshire. The white clapboarded building was built c. 1801–03, and rebuilt in 1837, at which time it received its Greek Revival styling. It was used as a church until 1987, and for town meetings until 1833. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It is now managed by a nonprofit as a community resource.

The Francestown Town Hall and Academy and Town Common Historic District encompasses a collection of historic 18th and 19th-century civic resources in the center of Francestown, New Hampshire. Located at the junction of New Boston and Greenfield Roads are the town's 1846 Greek Revival town hall and academy building, a former academic dormitory building, and the town's historic common, which includes a rare example of an early 20th-century platform scale. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

The Levi Woodbury Homestead is a historic house at 1 Main Street in Francestown, New Hampshire. With a construction history dating to 1787, it is a good local example of Federal period architecture. The house is most significant as the only known surviving structure that has a significant association with statesman Levi Woodbury (1789–1851), who had a long career as a successful politician and jurist. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

The Old County Road South Historic District is a rural historic district encompassing a well-preserved collection of 18th and early 19th-century rural farm properties in Francestown, New Hampshire. It includes nine houses, whose construction dates from 1774 to 1806, and the only two extant 18th-century saltbox-style houses in the town. There is also a Cape-style house built using the relatively rare vertical-plank method of framing, and there are several surviving 19th-century barns. The district covers 500 acres (200 ha) along all or part of Old County Road South, Pratt (Clark) Road, and Birdsall Road. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.Old County Road South was among the first areas to be settled in Francestown. It was home to Moses Bradford, the town's first Congregationalist pastor, and William Starrett, a leading force in both the church and the local government. The Bradford House (c. 1790) is a particularly fine example of Georgian architecture, while Starrett's house (1806) is one of the town's first brick houses, and is set on farmland with fine views. Three members of the Dodge family, including Simon, another of the town's early settlers, built houses in the district, and were prominent in the town economy, operating a local mill. The mill stood in the area, but now only foundational and archaeological evidence of it remain. Other archaeological remains in the district include a tannery site, operated by the Farnums, whose 1790 Georgian-style house was updated in the 1830s with Greek Revival features.

Crotched Mountain is a small mountain in western Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, in the United States. The 2,063-foot (629 m) summit of the mountain is in the town of Francestown, while the western slopes of the mountain rise in the town of Bennington, and a long southern ridge of the mountain is in Greenfield. The mountain was named for its appearance. Early settlers thought its V-shaped peaks resembled the fork or "crotch" of a tree.The Crotched Mountain Ski & Ride occupies the northern slopes of the mountain. It has 25 trails, 5 chairlifts, and 900 feet (270 m) of vertical drop. The Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center occupies a portion of the mountain's southern ridge in Greenfield. The mountain was the site of the world's first wind farm. In 1980, US Windpower installed 20 wind turbines rated at 30 kilowatts each, on the shoulder of Crotched Mountain. The company went out of business and the wind turbines were dismantled years ago.

Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center is located in Greenfield, New Hampshire, United States. It began as a rehabilitation center for children with polio. However, over the years it has evolved into one of New Hampshire's largest human services organizations, serving students with disabilities at Crotched Mountain School, children with autism through its "Ready Set Connect" programs, and adults with unique needs through Crotched Mountain Community Care.

Greenfield is a town in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,716 at the 2020 census. Greenfield is home to the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center, to Greenfield State Park, and to part of the Wapack Trail.

The Greenfield Meeting House is a historic meeting house on Forest Road in the center of Greenfield, New Hampshire. The two-story wood-frame building was built in 1795; it is one of a small number of 18th century meeting houses in New Hampshire, and is believed to be the oldest still used for both religious and secular purposes, hosting both church services and town functions. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Deering Reservoir is a 323-acre (1.3 km2) water body located in Hillsborough County in southern New Hampshire, United States, in the town of Deering. The lake serves as the headwaters to the Piscataquog River, which flows east to the Merrimack River in Manchester. The lake is classified as a warmwater fishery, with observed species including rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, white perch, horned pout, and chain pickerel.

Greenfield State Park is a 400-acre (160 ha) public recreation area in Greenfield, New Hampshire. The state park features ponds, bogs, and a forest that extends to the shore of undeveloped Otter Lake. Activities include camping, hiking, swimming, fishing, picnicking, and non-motorized boating. There is a small store, playground, boat ramp, and rentals.
