Campton, New Hampshire

The Mad River is a 17.9-mile-long (28.8 km) river in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Pemigewasset River, part of the Merrimack River watershed. The Mad River begins at the Greeley Ponds in Mad River Notch, a mountain pass between Mount Osceola to the west and Mount Kancamagus to the east, in the township of Livermore. The river descends to the south, followed by the Greeley Pond Trail, to the town of Waterville Valley, where the West Branch enters. After winding through the Waterville Valley Resort community, the Mad River proceeds southwest over continuous boulder-strewn rapids into a corner of the town of Thornton, eventually settling out in Campton Pond in the town of Campton. Passing over a small hydroelectric dam at Campton Upper Village, the river descends over some small waterfalls and enters the floodplain of the Pemigewasset River, which it joins near Interstate 93. For most of the river's length below Waterville Valley, it is paralleled by New Hampshire Route 49.

Thornton is a town in Grafton County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,708 at the 2020 census, up from 2,490 at the 2010 census.

Barney and Betty Hill were an American couple who claimed they were abducted by extraterrestrials in a rural portion of the state of New Hampshire from September 19 to 20, 1961. The incident came to be called the "Hill Abduction" and the "Zeta Reticuli Incident" because two ufologists connected the star map shown to Betty Hill with the Zeta Reticuli system. Their story was adapted into the best-selling 1966 book The Interrupted Journey and the 1975 television film The UFO Incident. Most of Betty Hill's notes, tapes, and other items have been placed in the permanent collection at the University of New Hampshire, her alma mater. In July 2011, the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources marked the site of the alleged craft's first approach with a historical marker. The Hills' story was widely publicized in books and movies.

The Beebe River is a 16.7-mile-long (26.9 km) river located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Pemigewasset River, part of the Merrimack River watershed. The Beebe River begins at Black Mountain Pond on the southern slopes of Sandwich Mountain, a 3,993-foot (1,217 m) summit in the southern White Mountains, in the town of Sandwich. The river drops off the mountain to the south, then turns west to travel through Sandwich Notch, staying in a wooded valley and entering the town of Campton. The valley broadens as the river approaches the village of Campton Hollow, where the river reaches New Hampshire Route 175 and drops over some small waterfalls. The river passes by the old industrial community of Beebe River and reaches the Pemigewasset River next to Interstate 93.

The Norman and Marion Perry House is a historic house at 352 Ellsworth Hill Road in Campton, New Hampshire. The house was built in 1960 to a design by Hugh Stubbins, and is a residential embodiment of Modernist architecture. The property was landscaped by Leon Pearson, and has views of the surrounding mountain landscape. The house is currently a privately owned residence. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012, and the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Dickey Mountain is a mountain in Thornton, New Hampshire, United States. It is part of the White Mountains and has a summit that is 2,734 feet (833 m) above sea level. The mountain has an exposed summit which is accessible via the Welch-Dickey trail, a 4.4-mile (7.1 km) loop which also crosses Welch Mountain. It is one of five places in New Hampshire which is home to the jack pine.

Ellsworth is a town in Grafton County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 93 at the 2020 census. Ellsworth is the only dry town in New Hampshire.

The Holderness School is a private, coeducational college-preparatory school in Holderness, near Plymouth, New Hampshire in the United States. The student body of 300 is drawn from 22 U.S. states and 14 foreign countries. While Holderness operates primarily as a boarding school, it also enrolls 25 day students. John McVeigh is currently Holderness School's 10th Head of School (headmaster). McVeigh's predecessor was R. Phillip Peck, M.Ed. In the summer the campus is used as a site for various Gordon Research Conferences.

The Baker River, or Asquamchumauke (an Abenaki word meaning "salmon spawning place"), is a 36.4-mile-long (58.6 km) river in the White Mountains region of New Hampshire in the United States. It rises on the south side of Mount Moosilauke and runs south and east to empty into the Pemigewasset River in Plymouth. The river traverses the towns of Warren, Wentworth, and Rumney. It is part of the Merrimack River watershed. The Baker River's name recalls Lt. Thomas Baker (1682–1753), whose company of 34 scouts from Northampton, Massachusetts, passed down the river's valley in 1712 and destroyed a Pemigewasset Indian village. Along this river on April 28, 1752, John Stark and Amos Eastman were captured by Abenaki warriors and taken to Saint-François-du-Lac, Quebec, near Montreal. John Stark's brother William Stark escaped, and David Stinson was killed during the ambush. On the 1835 Thomas Bradford map of New Hampshire, the river is shown as "Bakers" River, originating on "Mooshillock Mtn."

WPNH (1300 AM) and WFTN (1240 AM) are commercial radio stations in Central New Hampshire. WPNH is licensed to Plymouth, and WFTN is licensed to Franklin. The stations are branded as "Oldies 92.9" and simulcast an oldies format, featuring an unusually deep and vast playlist offering the first generation of rock and roll of the 1960s. WPNH and WFTN also offer select hits from the late 1950s and the early to mid 1970s. The stations also carry Boston Red Sox during the baseball season. The studios are in Franklin, along with co-owned WPNH-FM, WFTN-FM and WSCY. Prior to the addition of both of their 92.9 FM translators, WFTN and WPNH featured programming from Westwood One's "America's Best Music" adult standards format. WPNH is a Class D station with 5,000 watts days and 88 watts at night, non directional while WFTN is a Class C station with 1,000 watts 24 hours a day. The stations also can be heard on FM via two translators, both at 92.9 MHz: W225CB in Tilton, New Hampshire (relaying WFTN), and W225CT in Plymouth, New Hampshire (relaying WPNH). The "Oldies 92.9" branding is derived from the translators' frequency. The stations do not stream their programming over the internet.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a historic church at 45 Chapel Lane on the campus of Holderness School in Holderness, New Hampshire. Built in 1884 to a design by Charles Coolidge Haight, it is a prominent regional example of Gothic Revival architecture. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Trinity Church is a historic Episcopal church, located in a small cemetery on New Hampshire Route 175 in Holderness, New Hampshire. Built in 1797, it is one of only two surviving 18th-century buildings in the state that was built as a church (the other is the Union Church in Claremont). It is also the only major surviving structure associated with the life of Samuel Livermore, a prominent New Hampshire statesman and jurist. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It is maintained by the cemetery's association, and is occasionally used for services.
