Clarksburg (formerly, Clarksburgh) is a census-designated place in Yolo County, California. It is located on the Sacramento River, in the extreme southeastern corner of the county. It lies at an elevation of 10 feet (3 m) in ZIP code 95612 and area codes 916 and 279.

Clarksburg is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California's Sacramento Valley spanning across portions of Sacramento, Solano and Yolo Counties. Lying southwest of the state capital of Sacramento, the wine appellation was established as the nation's 57th and the state's 37th AVA on January 23, 1984, by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Treasury after reviewing the petition submitted by John Baranek of Clarksburg Vintners & Growers proposing the viticultural area within Yolo, Solano and Sacramento Counties known as "Clarksburg." The sixteen-mile-long (26 km) by eight-mile-wide (13 km) viticultural area encompasses 64,640 acres (101 sq mi) and named after the town of Clarksburg, located in its northern section. The growing region has dense clay, silt, and loam soils. Fog and cool breezes from San Francisco Bay keeps Clarksburg AVA cooler than Sacramento. At the outset, Clarksburg contained two bonded wineries and 25 vineyards cultivating approximately 10,000 acres (4,000 ha) of Vitis vinifera. While the Clarksburg appellation produces over 40,000 tons of grapes annually, 90% of the grapes grown in the AVA are processed in winery facilities located elsewhere in California, and relatively few wines are released with the Clarksburg AVA on their labels. The established Merritt Island viticultural area became a sub-appellation within Clarksburg AVA. The plant hardiness zone is 9b. In 2022, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) approved the petition submitted by James Reamer of Reamer Farms Vineyard, on behalf of himself and other wine industry members, to expand the Clarksburg viticultural area by approximately 27,945 acres (44 sq mi) in Sacramento and Solano counties totaling 92,585 acres (145 sq mi). The expansion area was adjacent to the AVA's southern boundary entirely encompassing both Grand and Ryer Islands which defined the added acreage. There was 350 acres (140 ha) being cultivated on Grand Island and three vineyards on Ryer Island. The soil, climate, topography and hardiness zone in the expansion area are similar to the established Clarksburg AVA.

Merritt Island is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in Yolo County, California It is an island landform in the Sacramento River Delta lying only six miles (9.7 km) south of the state capital of Sacramento,. The 5,000-acre (8 sq mi) wine appellation was established as the nation's 27th, the state's 23rd and the county's initial AVA on May 17, 1983, by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Treasury after reviewing the petition submitted by Mr. Chris Bogle of Bogle Vineyards, Incorporated, on behalf of himself, proposing the viticultural area within Yolo County to be known as "Merritt Island." The island, approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) long from north to south and only 1.6 miles (2.6 km) at its widest point, is surrounded by Elk Slough, Sutter Slough, and the Sacramento River with a maritime climate of cool breezes and fog arriving from the nearby San Francisco Bay. Its soil is a very fertile and rich loam yielding grapes used in blends with fruit from other parts of the state. Merritt Island was administered under Reclamation District 150. The plant hardiness zone is 9b. In January 1984, Merritt Island viticultural area became a sub-appellation within the 16-mile-long (26 km) by 8-mile-wide (13 km), 64,640 acres (101 sq mi) Clarksburg AVA that spanned across portions of Sacramento, Solano and Yolo Counties.

The Rosebud Ranch is a historic ranch on the National Register of Historic Places located near Hood, California, south of Sacramento. Built c. 1877 by William Johnston, the property reportedly stretched over two miles of the Sacramento River front and encompassed 1,200 acres (490 ha). Johnston used his property to grow vegetables, fruit, grain, as well as use for grazing and as a dairy farm.In recent years the home has held public tours led by the Elk Grove Historical Society.

It is the largest state civil rights agency in the United States. It also provides representation to the victims of hate crimes. Today, it is considered part of the California Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency. Kevin Kish, a noted civil rights attorney, was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown on December 29, 2014, to be director of California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), the largest state civil rights agency in the nation. The position of Director for the DFEH was made vacant following the abrupt resignation of the former director Phyllis W. Cheng.

Hood is a census-designated place in Sacramento County, California, United States. Hood is located on the Sacramento River and California State Route 160 15 miles (24 km) south of downtown Sacramento. Hood has a post office with ZIP code 95639 that was established in 1912. The community was named in 1910 after William Hood, chief engineer of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The population was 271 at the 2010 census.

California Northstate University College of Medicine (CNUCOM) is a private for-profit medical school located in Elk Grove, California, and is one of the four colleges of California Northstate University, granting the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD). Although the proposed California Northstate University hospital will operate on a not-for-profit basis, CNUCOM will remain a for-profit educational institution. The college of medicine was approved by the WASC in August 2013 and gained preliminary accreditation in June 2015 and provisional accreditation in June 2019 by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). In January 2022, the LCME denied CNUCOM full accreditation status; the school will remain provisionally accredited until further evaluation. California Northstate currently lacks authorization through the Higher Education Act title IV, Student Assistance section or Title 38 of the Veterans Benefit Program. This impacts access to Federal Student Loans, any Federal Student Funding, access to refinancing, and limits to currently 3 lenders.Dr. Joseph Silva, MD, currently serves as the Dean of Medicine. CNUCOM enrolled its first class of 60 students in August 2015, which subsequently graduated in May 2019.

California Northstate University College of Pharmacy is a pharmacy school located in Elk Grove in the Sacramento, California metropolitan area. It hosted its inaugural commencement ceremony on May 19, 2012, graduating its first class of students. The current Dean is Dr. Xiaodong Feng. Students at the university used a grant from the Vietnamese Cancer Awareness, Research and Education Society to conduct a symposium aimed at raising awareness among pharmacists of the prevalence of ovarian cancer in Vietnamese women.

Laguna West-Lakeside is an area located on the west side of the city of Elk Grove in Sacramento County, California. Formally a census-designated place (CDP), Laguna West-Lakeside was annexed by Elk Grove in 2003. The population of Laguna West-Lakeside was 8,414 at the 2000 census, before annexation.

The Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, located south of Sacramento, California, lies within the Sacramento-San Joaquin delta, the destination of thousands of migrating waterfowl, shorebirds, and other water birds. The refuge was established in 1994.

The Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (SRWTP) in Elk Grove, California, United States was built along the Interstate 5 during the 1970s and became fully operational in 1982. The plant was built to centralize wastewater treatment, instead of sending it to the 22 treatment plants that used to exist in the Sacramento Area. The SRWTP employs approximately 350 people, treats approximately 127 million gallons of effluent daily for over 1.4 million people in Elk Grove, Sacramento, Citrus Heights, Folsom, and Rancho Cordova. It was later renamed Regional Sanitation as it continues upgrades to meet new state standards.

Elk Grove station is a proposed train station in Elk Grove, California. Located north of Laguna Boulevard near Dwight Road, it is under consideration as part of the Valley Rail Sacramento Extension Project between Stockton and Sacramento. It will be served by Amtrak California San Joaquins and Altamont Corridor Express trains. An earlier proposal for a North Elk Grove station was rejected after the Sacramento Regional Sanitation District (owners of the property) objected to its construction. The station is expected to open with the commencement of ACE service to Natomas in 2026.At least three other railroad stations served Elk Grove in the past.
