Elk River High School (variously as Elk River Senior High School) is a public high school located in Elk River, Minnesota, United States. It is the one of four high schools in the Elk River Area School District (ISD 728) and its feeder schools are VandenBerge Middle School and Salk Middle School. In the 2011–12 school year, Elk River had an enrollment of 1,649 students. Elk River's colors are red and white. The National Center of Education Statistics classifies the high school as a large, suburban campus. The Elk River Elks compete in the Northwest Suburban Conference of the Minnesota State High School League as well as in Section 7AAAAA (5A) for football. Elk River High School opened in 1888.

The Elk River Water Tower is a historic water tower in Elk River, Minnesota, United States. It was built in 1920 to improve the city's firefighting infrastructure, and uses a design popular from 1890 to 1940. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012 for its significance in the themes of "community planning and development" and "engineering". It was nominated for its impact on community development and as a representative of a once-common but vanishing design.In 2021, Elk River was able to restore the water tower using Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants. The tower was returned to its original color scheme of silver with a red top, with black block lettering of the city's name.

Elkhi Stadium, also known as Handke Stadium and locally nicknamed "the Pit", is an outdoor sports venue in Elk River, Minnesota, United States. It was begun with community labor in 1922 and improved by the National Youth Administration in 1940. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 for its significance in the themes of entertainment/recreation and politics/government. It was nominated for charting local efforts to enhance a community resource by mobilizing available labor, institutions, building materials, and ultimately federal New Deal funding, benefiting the community with youth employment and an enduring civic asset.

Elk River Station is an energy-from-waste plant operating in Elk River, Minnesota that generates 35 to 42 megawatts of electrical power. The site was originally built as a coal and oil-fired facility in 1950, then construction began on a nuclear power plant (boiling water reactor) in 1959. The nuclear reactor was small (22 MW) and only operated from July 1, 1964 until February 1, 1968 before undergoing decommission and dismantlement in the following years, ending in the early 1970s. Some of the spent nuclear fuel from Elk River was sent to Italy for reprocessing as part of a thorium fuel cycle research program; decades later this became the subject of diplomatic exchanges regarding its ultimate fate.Elk River resumed operating on coal and oil in 1968. In 1989, the facility was again converted, this time to use Refuse Derived Fuel or (RDF) for fuel. The RDF is made from municipal solid waste. Waste arrives from Anoka, Benton, Hennepin, Sherburne, and Stearns counties, and the ash remaining after incineration is taken to a landfill in Becker, Minnesota. Elk River Station was operated by the Great River Energy cooperative. Power production at Elk River ended in January 2019.

Babcock Memorial Park, also called Babcock Wayside, is a highway rest area and public boat launch on the Mississippi River in Elk River, Minnesota at the intersection of U.S. 10 and Route 169. Its name honors Highway Commissioner Charles Merritt Babcock, who was from the area and is regarded as the originator of the modern Minnesota State Highway System. The state owns it but has turned maintenance over to the city. The park was built by the National Youth Administration in 1938 and 1939 and preserves two fieldstone council rings, a stone picnic table, and a hand-operated pump from that era. A geological marker, modern toilets, and other amenities were added later. It contains about 16 acres (6.5 ha), but it was considerably larger before the adjacent highways were expanded with cloverleaf interchanges.

From 1850 to 1870 it was owned by Oliver Hudson Kelley, one of the founders of the National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry, the country's first national agrarian advocacy group. The Oliver Kelley Farm is operated as a historic site by the Minnesota Historical Society. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964 under the name Oliver H. Kelley Homestead—which also places it on the National Register of Historic Places—for its national significance in the themes of agriculture and social history. It was nominated as a representative of the beginnings of agrarian activism in the United States, setting the stage for the Farmers' Alliance and the People's Party of the late 19th century.
