Afon Mynach

Mynach Falls (Welsh: Rhaeadr Mynach) is a waterfall near Aberystwyth in the county of Ceredigion, Wales. It occurs where the River Mynach drops 90 metres (300 ft) in 5 steps down a steep and narrow ravine before it meets the River Rheidol. The area is famous for the Devil's Bridge (Welsh: Pontarfynach - Bridge Over the Mynach River), a series of three arch bridges that span the river, one above the other. The area near the waterfall is the terminus of the Vale of Rheidol Railway.

Devil's Bridge (Welsh: Pontarfynach, lit. "The bridge on the Mynach") is a village and community in Ceredigion, Wales. Above the River Mynach on the edge of the village is a series of three stacked bridges, constructed hundreds of years apart, from which the village gets its English name. The village is on the A4120 road, about 10 miles (16 km) east of Aberystwyth. The population of Pontarfynach community at the 2011 census was 455. The mid-2016 estimate suggests that the population had dropped slightly to 429.

Devil's Bridge railway station is a railway station serving Devil's Bridge in Ceredigion in Mid-Wales. It is the eastern terminus of the preserved Vale of Rheidol Railway.

Coed Rheidol National Nature Reserve forms part of the long ribbon of woodland adjoining the Afon Mynach and Afon Rheidol around the lower slopes of hills near Devil's Bridge, Ceredigion. At the bottom of the gorge the woods take on an ancient appearance with their steep rocky slopes and gnarled trees dripping with moss. One of the most spectacular landscapes in Wales, fantastic views of the Rheidol waterfall and valley can be enjoyed at the top of this reserve.

Ystumtuen is a small village in northern Ceredigion, Wales. It is situated above the valley of the River Rheidol.It is situated on rocks rich in lead and silver and during a lengthy period in the 18th and 19th centuries, Ystumtuen was a bustling mining village. With the demise of the lead mining industry and in particular the closure of Cwm Rheidol mine, the population dwindled rapidly with the last ancestral population disappearing in the 1970s. This may in part have been due to the high lead content of the local spring sources. The village was re-populated for a time in the 1970s by hippy communities, and in recent years the population has been steadily increasing. There was a Youth Hostel run by the Youth Hostel Association in the old school, but this has now closed. The YHA sign was still there in 2021.

Rhiwfron railway station is a railway station serving Rhiwfron in Ceredigion in Mid-Wales. It is an intermediate station on the preserved Vale of Rheidol Railway. A station or halt has existed here since the opening of the line, but with few facilities beyond the provision of a nameboard. During 2013 the station was considerably enhanced following a grant for rural infrastructure development from the European Union. The station now has a raised and surfaced platform, fencing, and an ornate station building constructed in the style of architecture employed by the original owners of the railway.

Pont-rhyd-y-groes (also known as Pontrhydygroes, English: the bridge of the ford of the cross) is a village near Cwm Ystwyth and Pont ar Fynach (Devil's Bridge), in Ceredigion, Wales. The village takes its name from the bridge (Welsh: pont) and (earlier) ford (Welsh: rhyd) over the River Ystwyth. The area used to be dominated by the mining industry, in particular by the Lisburnes. The miners' bridge across the Ystwyth gorge and the waterfall have been rebuilt. The remnants of the Fron Goch mines, which mined lead and zinc from ca. 1760 until ca. 1903, are situated approximately 1+3⁄4 miles (2+3⁄4 km) north of the village.

Hafod Uchtryd (English: Uchtryd summer mansion) is a wooded and landscaped estate in the Ystwyth valley in Ceredigion, Wales. Near Devil's Bridge, Cwmystwyth and Pont-rhyd-y-groes, it is off the B4574 road. Hafod Uchtryd land was within the boundaries of the Cistercian Abbey Strata Florida (Welsh: Caron-Uwch-Clawdd). Originally a hunting lodge for Welsh Chieftains, it became home to the landed gentry and the nobility. In the late eighteenth century, a celebrated landscape was created under the ownership of Thomas Johnes.The estate is in the parish of Llanfihangel y Creuddyn near Llanddewi-Brefi. Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn was a chapel-of-ease in the parish. It was rebuilt for Thomas Johnes by James Wyatt in 1801. The estate shares a border along the Ystwyth with that of the Trawsgoed estate.

Rheidol power station is a 56 MW hydroelectric scheme near Aberystwyth, Wales. It was built between 1957 and 1962 and was officially opened on 3 July 1964. It has been operated by Statkraft since 2009 after it was transferred from E.ON UK as part of a swap for shares. In 1964/65 Rheidol Power Station was awarded the Christopher Hinton trophy in recognition of good housekeeping. The power plant is the largest of its kind in England and Wales. The plant has generated renewable energy by using rainwater that falls on the surrounding mountains since 1962. The plant covers a total area of 162 square kilometres (63 sq mi) and is made up of an interconnected group of reservoirs, dams, pipelines, aqueducts, and power stations. The upper reaches of the scheme are over 750 metres (2,460 ft) above sea level in the Plynlimon mountains. A series of aqueducts collects the water and channels it into the Nant-y-Moch reservoir. Water flows from this reservoir to a power station at Dinas where it drives a 13 MW generator. From the power station, the water flows into Dinas reservoir. Dinas reservoir supplies water to the largest power station at Cwm Rheidol where there are two 20.5 MW generators. At Cwm Rheidol a further reservoir has been created to avoid large variations in the flow of water. This reservoir collects water that flows through the power station and releases it slowly through a 1 MW generator.
