Langendorf is a municipality in the district Lüchow-Dannenberg, in Lower Saxony, Germany.

The Dömitz Railway Bridge is a partially complete railway bridge over the Elbe River near the town of Dömitz, Germany. As constructed, it had a length of 1,000 metres and was the longest railway bridge in Germany at that time (in 1873). It was part of the Wittenberge–Buchholz railway.

The Elde (German pronunciation: [ˈɛldə]) is a river in northern Germany (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and a few km in Brandenburg), a right tributary of the Elbe. Its total length is 220 kilometres (140 mi). The Elde originates near Altenhof, south of Malchow. It first flows southeast towards the southern end of Lake Müritz, which it enters at Vipperow. It flows out of the Müritz at its northern end, near Waren. It turns west, and flows through a series of small lakes, and along the town of Malchow, until the Plauer See. It flows out of the Plauer See at Plau am See, and continues west and southwest through Lübz, Parchim, Neustadt-Glewe, Grabow and Eldena, and flows into the Elbe at Dömitz. Near Eldena, the Alte Elde branches off and flows into the Löcknitz (another tributary of the Elbe) near Eldenburg, part of Lenzen (Elbe). For much of its length, 180 kilometres (110 mi), it forms the navigable Müritz-Elde-Wasserstraße, with 17 locks. The Elde is murky, due to the fast erosion of the valley around it.

Dömitz (German pronunciation: [ˈdøːmɪts] ) is a municipality in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It is situated on the right bank of the Elbe, 25 km southwest of Ludwigslust, and 37 km northwest of Wittenberge. It was granted town rights by the counts of Dannenberg in the 13th century. Rüterberg is a Stadtteil of Dömitz in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The community lies in the former East Germany on a portion of the Elbe River that formed part of the border with the former West Germany. By the end of the communist era, Rüterburg was surrounded by a wall that completely cut the community off from the rest of East Germany. From 1988 to 1989, the local residents, led by Hans Rasenberger, raised the idea of creating a free town, with the powers of establishing their own laws, breaking their ties with East Germany. The "Republic" was proclaimed by an assembly of 90 citizens on 8 November 1989, just a day before the fall of the Berlin wall. On 14 July 1991, the secretary of state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern acknowledged the right of the people of Rüterberg to use the title of Dorfrepublik (Village-Republic).

Lüchow-Dannenberg is a district in Lower Saxony, Germany, which is usually referred to as Hanoverian Wendland (Hannoversches Wendland) or Wendland. It is bounded by (from the west and clockwise) the districts of Uelzen and Lüneburg and the states of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (district of Ludwigslust-Parchim), Brandenburg (district of Prignitz) and Saxony-Anhalt (districts of Stendal and Altmarkkreis Salzwedel).

The Overseas radio reception center Lüchow (German: Übersee- Funkempfangsstelle Lüchow (ÜFESt or ÜEFuSt)) was one of the large radio reception centers of the German Federal Post Office for civil telecommunications use between 1948 and 1987. It was used to handle teletype, telegram and telephone services worldwide via shortwave radio.

Woltersdorf is a municipality in the district Lüchow-Dannenberg, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The municipality Woltersdorf includes the villages Woltersdorf, Klein Breese, Lichtenberg and Thurau. Famous sites around Woltersdorf are the Brautstein ("stone of the bride") and the Feldkirche ("church on the field"). Both of these can be seen in the coat of arms of Woltersdorf. The Brautstein is a formation of ancient boulders left behind by glaciers in the ice age. The Feldkirchr has a little stone in its walls which was taken from the Slavic population and was built into the church.

The Wendland is a region in Germany on the borders of the present states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. Its heart is the Hanoverian Wendland in the county of Lüchow-Dannenberg in Lower Saxony. In 2012 the state of Lower Saxony nominated the Rundling villages in Hanoverian Wendland for the German shortlist of candidates for future UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Subsequent decisions that will determine the success of this bid take place in 2013 at the conference of education ministers (Kultusministerkonferenz) and no earlier than 2017 by UNESCO.
