Created in 1997, it covers southern portions of southeast Michigan, including all of Washtenaw and Monroe counties, and southern and western portions of Wayne County. This area includes Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Saline, Chelsea, Milan, Belleville, Garden City, Wayne, Westland, Livonia, Canton, Pinckney, Plymouth, Plymouth Township, Monroe, Petersburg, Bedford, Romulus, Huron Township and the remainder of Downriver south of a border formed by Goddard Road in Taylor and the northern borders of the cities of Southgate and Wyandotte. Area code 734 also covers the west side of the city of Inkster. Area code 734 drew publicity after the release of the Juice WRLD song "734". This area had been historically served by area code 313, which today only applies to Detroit and its closest suburbs.

Michigan's 16th congressional district is an obsolete United States congressional district in Michigan. It covered the communities of Dearborn, Downriver and Monroe County.The first Representative to Congress elected from the 16th district, John Lesinski, Sr., took office in 1933, after reapportionment due to the 1930 census. The district was dissolved following the 2000 census. The last Representative elected from the district, John Dingell, was subsequently elected from the 15th district. The only other Representative elected from the 16th district in its 70 years of existence was John Lesinski, Jr. It could be called a Polish district, because all three district's representatives were Polish-Americans.

Michigan's 15th congressional district is an obsolete congressional district in the state of Michigan. Historically, the district's politics have been dominated by the Dingell family since its creation after the 1930 United States census. Its first congressman, John D. Dingell, Sr., was elected in 1932 and served until his death in 1955. His son, John, Jr. won a special election to succeed him; upon Dingell Jr.'s own retirement in 2015, his wife Debbie Dingell won his seat and is now the incumbent. As such, the district (even after it was absorbed by the 12th district in 2013) has been represented continuously by a Dingell for the last 89 years. The 15th district historically had left-of-center voting tendencies. Its last Cook PVI rating was D+13, meaning it supported Democratic candidates at a rate of 13 percentage points greater than the national average. This district became obsolete for the 113th Congress in 2013 as congressional district lines were redrawn to accommodate the loss of the seat due to reapportionment as a result of the 2010 census. Most of the district's territory, including Ann Arbor and Dingell's home in Dearborn, became part of the new 12th district, which had previously been based in Oakland, and Macomb Counties. Along with the 1st district and the now-defunct 16th district, the 15th has been historically frequently represented by politicians of Polish descent. Three of the district's six elected representatives (Dingell Jr. served here twice and in between he was a representative from the 16th district, which was later dissolved) have been Polish-Americans.

The Bridge School is a former school building located in rural Raisinville Township in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is recognized as the first public school in the Territory of Michigan when it was founded in 1828. The school district closed in 1946, and the building has served as Raisinville Township Hall since 1982. The Bridge School was listed as a Michigan State Historic Site on December 17, 1987.

Comair Flight 3272 was a Comair flight from Cincinnati,USA to Detroit on Thursday, January 9, 1997. While on approach for landing, the Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia aircraft crashed nose-down 18 miles (29 km) southwest of Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport at 15:54 EST. All 29 aboard, 26 passengers and three crew members, were killed.The cause of the crash was determined to be inadequate and out of date flight crew procedures for icing conditions. Some of these originated with the Federal Aviation Administration's failure to specify suitable minimum airspeeds for icing conditions, while some were Comair procedure manual defects, including superseded instructions on the use of de-icing boots that did not follow the aircraft manufacturer's instructions.

The Navarre–Anderson Trading Post is a former trading post complex located at 3775 North Custer Road in Frenchtown Charter Township along the River Raisin in Monroe County, Michigan. It was listed as a Michigan Historic Site on June 16, 1972 and also listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 31, 1972.The main building on the complex dates back to 1789, and is claimed to be the oldest surviving wooden residential building in the state. However, architectural analyses of the Biddle and McGulpin houses on Mackinac Island indicate they could date back as far as 1780. The Navarre–Anderson complex was established by the early French settlers Francois Navarre and John Anderson, who were among the first to settle the area of present-day Monroe. In addition to the main building, which also served as a house, the cookhouse building was built in 1810. The original barn is no longer standing, but a 1790s replica was built on the complex.The complex was originally located several miles downstream in the present-day Old Village Historic District. When advancing development threatened this historical complex, it was moved in 1894 and again in 1971. The complex was restored back to its appearance from what it looked like 1799. Today, the complex is owned by the Monroe County Historical Museum and is open to the public for special events and group tours.
