Metamora Township, Michigan

Metamora is a village in Lapeer County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 594 at the 2020 census. The village is located within Metamora Township.

The Metamora Crossroads Historic District is a historic district centered at the intersection of Oak and High Street in the small village of Metamora in Metamora Township in Lapeer County, Michigan. It was designated as a Michigan State Historic Site and also added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 19, 1984.

Metamora-Hadley State Recreation Area is a state-managed protected area in the U.S. state of Michigan, located in Hadley Township in Lapeer County, northwest of Detroit. It is located eight miles south of the city of Lapeer. The closest urban community is the village of Metamora, Michigan, which lies to its east and is used in its postal address. The park is 723 acres (2.93 km2) in area and has 214 camping sites distributed across a "north" and "south" campground, and one cabin. The north campground has larger lots which can accommodate larger trailers than the south campground. There is a six-mile (10 km) nature trail, as well as picnic areas, a beach with boat rentals, and a camp store. The recreation area lies around Lake Minnewanna, an 80-acre (320,000 m2) man-made lake.

Oxford High School is a public secondary institution located in Oxford Township, Michigan, United States. It is operated by the Oxford Community Schools. The school draws from an area of the village of Oxford and most of Oxford Township, as well as portions of Orion, Dryden, Metamora, and Addison townships.

On November 30, 2021, a mass shooting occurred at Oxford High School in the Detroit exurb of Oxford Township, Michigan, United States. Four students were killed and seven people were injured, including a teacher. Authorities arrested and charged 15-year-old sophomore Ethan Crumbley as an adult for 24 crimes, including murder and terrorism. Crumbley's parents, Jennifer and James Crumbley, were charged on December 3 with involuntary manslaughter for failing to secure the handgun used in the shooting. After failing to appear for their arraignment, the parents were the subjects of a manhunt by the U.S. Marshals; they were caught and arrested in Detroit on December 4. Lawsuits were filed against the school district, Oxford Community Schools, starting on December 9; they allege negligence by school officials towards warning signs exhibited by Crumbley leading up to the shooting.

Lapeer Township is a civil township of Lapeer County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 5,056 at the 2010 Census. The name is an Americanization of the French La pierre, which means "flint" or "flint stone".

The Oxford Downtown Historic District is a commercial historic district located along Washington Street/MI-24 at the intersection of Burdick Street in Oxford, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.

Oxford is a village in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,436 at the 2010 census. The village is located within Oxford Township. Located about 30 miles (48 km) north of Detroit, it is a northern suburb of the Metro Detroit region.

Lapeer High School is a coeducational public high school located in Lapeer, Michigan. It was established in 2014 following a merger of two high schools. LHS has the largest enrollment of any school in Central Michigan or The Thumb.

Lapeer East High School was a public high school located in Lapeer, Michigan. It was the rival school of Lapeer West High School. In 2010, all portable classrooms were removed and the school was reverted to 9-12 grade students. It was built in 1975 as a result of overcrowding of the former Lapeer High School, which became Lapeer West High School. In 2014, Lapeer East was renamed to Lapeer High School due to the consolidation of the two high schools, the consolidation owing to declining enrollments at both high schools. Which was due to an increasingly low number of elementary and kindergarten enrollments.

Dryden Township is a civil township in Lapeer County in the U.S. state of Michigan, named in honor of the literary critic, John Dryden. The population was 4,799 at the 2020 census. The village of Dryden is located within the township. When it was first organized, the township was called Lomond Township but was given its present name by 1846.
