William Henry Smith School

Elland was a parliamentary constituency in the West Riding of Yorkshire that existed between 1885 and 1950. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons, by the first-past-the-post voting system. Situated between Bradford in the North, Halifax in the West, and Huddersfield to the south, it included the mining town of Brighouse and the wool centre of Elland. With a sizeable Nonconformist population (estimated at 15 per cent in 1922), it was natural Liberal territory, and was a fairly safe Liberal and later Labour seat, falling to the Conservatives only in the 'khaki election' of 1918 and the Labour collapse of 1931. In the 1918 redistribution it lost some territory and it was abolished in 1950. A sizeable part of the area was transferred to the new Brighouse and Spenborough seat.

Elland Lower Edge is an area of Rastrick near the town of Brighouse, in the Calderdale District, in the English county of West Yorkshire.

Brookfoot is a village in Calderdale West Yorkshire, England. It lies between the towns of Elland and Brighouse on the A6025 (Elland Road). The Calder and Hebble Navigation and the River Calder runs through Brookfoot. Near the River and canal there is a 3½-acre (1.4 hectares) lake known as Brookfoot lake owned by The Brighouse Angling Association.

St Matthew's Church is a local ecumenical partnership church building situated on Church Street in Rastrick, West Yorkshire, England. The present church was built in 1798 and is a Grade II* listed building. It is shared by the Church of England and the Methodist Church of Great Britain.

The Rastrick Independent School was a private school in Rastrick in the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England. Opened in 1994 the school closed at very short notice in August 2019.The school had a capacity of 482 pupils but only had around 70 enrolled at the time of its closure.

Elland Upper Edge is a village on the B6114 road, near the town of Elland, in the Calderdale district, in the English county of West Yorkshire.

Rastrick is a village in the county of West Yorkshire, England, between Halifax, 5 miles (8 km) north-east and Huddersfield, 4 miles (7 km) south. The population of the Calderdale Civil Ward at the 2011 census was 11,351. It is perhaps best known for its association, along with its neighbour Brighouse, 1 mile (2 km) north-east, with the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band. Along with Brighouse, it is part of Calderdale, but shares a Huddersfield postcode and phone number. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the village is on an incline facing north-east, the Parish Church, is vertically in the middle. The area around the Parish Church is known as "Top o' t'Town" and the area around the Junction public house is known as "Bottom o' t'Town", this reflects the days when Rastrick had its own governance in the form of a Town Board whose Offices and lock-up were situated halfway between the two, on Ogden Lane. Remains of a fort have been found at Castle Hill, just below Top o' Town.

Brighouse is a town within the metropolitan borough of Calderdale, in West Yorkshire, England. Historically within the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is situated on the River Calder, 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Halifax. It is served by Junction 25 of the M62 motorway and Brighouse railway station on the Caldervale Line and Huddersfield Line. In the town centre is a mooring basin on the Calder and Hebble Navigation. The United Kingdom Census 2001 gave the Brighouse / Rastrick subdivision of the West Yorkshire Urban Area a population of 32,360. The Brighouse ward of Calderdale Council gave a population of 11,195 at the 2011 Census. Brighouse has a HD6 postcode. The name Brighouse (or "Bridge House") originates from a building on (or close to) the bridge over the River Calder. In its early history, it was a hamlet of the nearby village of Rastrick. Brighouse is twinned with Lüdenscheid in Germany, the link beginning with an exchange by Brighouse Children's Theatre in 1950 followed by a civic twinning charter in 1960.

Elland Power Station was a coal-fired power station situated adjacent to the Manchester to Wakefield railway line and on a loop of the River Calder, north east of the town of Elland in West Yorkshire. The station occupied a site of some 65 acres.

Fixby is a suburb in north-west Kirklees bordering neighbouring Calderdale and is traditionally part of Huddersfield in the English county of West Yorkshire. Fixby is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The name "Fixby" derives from the Gaelic Irish personal name Fiach.In the nineteenth century Fixby was a large estate to which social reformer Richard Oastler was appointed as steward from 1830 until 1838 when he was relieved of his duties for his political activities: pamphleteering, lobbying and in the establishment of Short Time Committees in industrial towns throughout Yorkshire. The Short Time committees organised public meetings in order to raise petitions to improve conditions for children in the workplaces of the day and resulted in the Factory Act of 1847, with which Oastler was never fully satisfied.Much of the historical Fixby Estate is now a golf course based at Fixby Hall, and intersected by the Kirklees Way footpath. Fixby Hall is a grade II listed building.The area is now sought after suburban location of Huddersfield for homeowners. The village is just off the A6107 road and south of the M62 motorway.The Huddersfield Crematorium is also situated in the area.

The South Pennine Ring is an English canal ring which crosses the Pennines between Manchester and Huddersfield. It covers parts of five canals, and includes passage through the longest canal tunnel in Britain. It has only been possible to cruise it since 2002, when restoration of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal provided the return route across the Pennines.
