Whittington Castle is a castle in northern Shropshire, England, owned and managed by the Whittington Castle Preservation Fund. The castle was originally a motte-and-bailey castle, but this was replaced in the 13th century by one with buildings around a courtyard whose exterior wall was the curtain wall of the inner bailey. As a castle of the Welsh Marches, it was built on the border of Wales and England very close to the historic fort of Old Oswestry.Whittington Castle resides on a 12-acre (49,000 m2) property in the village of Whittington, in the district of North Shropshire, in the county of Shropshire in England. It abuts Castle Road.In 2003, a historical and archaeological investigation by Peter Brown and Peter King identified that the outer bailey of the castle had been two elaborate gardens and surrounded by water in the 14th century. This discovery was significant in that it proved the advanced state (as compared to those of the French or Flemish) of English gardening habits. The "lavish" garden was installed by one of the FitzWarin family. The viewing mound in the centre may be the oldest of its type yet discovered in England.

Halston Hall Chapel

Halston Hall Chapel is an ancient church building in Whittington, Shropshire, within the grounds of Halston Hall. Both are Grade I listed buildings. Dating to the second half of the 15th century, the chapel is one of only two timber-framed churches in Shropshire.The chapel's cemetery includes several members of the Mytton family, including John "Mad Jack" Mytton (1796–1834).

Halston Hall

Halston Hall is a Grade I listed building in the parish of Whittington, Shropshire, England. A country house first built around 1690, it was given protected status in January 1952. Alterations were made to the structure for John Mytton by Robert Mylne around 1766-68 and further work was undertaken during the early- to mid-19th century, for some of which time the property was owned by his grandson, also called John but often referred to as "Mad Jack" Mytton. Richard Mytton had been granted a five-year lease of the whole estate in April 1539 and required to live at Halston, to provide hospitality, and to find a priest for the chapel. The Mytton family was granted ownership of the Halston estates in 1562–63. The estate was split up for sale in 1847, 13 years after the death of Mad Jack. George Wright of Manchester bought the hall and 2,063 acres (835 ha) of the grounds for £116,095.The nearby private timber-framed chapel is also Grade I listed. Its history is obscure but predates the current hall structure.The parkland in which the hall is situated was requisitioned for use as a 1084-bed US military hospital during World War II. Little evidence of this survives but it comprised over 100 buildings, mostly to the north and north-west of the hall itself. The hospital was disused by 1954. Together with facilities at Penley, Llanerch Panna, Oteley Deer Park and Iscoyd Park, it formed a part of US Army Hospital Center 804.

Park Hall (Oswestry)

Park Hall Stadium is a football stadium to the north-east of Oswestry, Shropshire, England. It was opened by Shropshire County Council in 1993, originally as the home of Oswestry Town. In 2003, Oswestry Town merged with Total Network Solutions F.C. (TNS) to form current Cymru Premier team The New Saints. The newly merged club moved to Park Hall from Total Network Solutions' Recreation Ground. Following a short period of abandonment, the site was purchased from the council by Mike Harris with a view to redevelopment and The New Saints moving back to the ground. The New Saints started to use Park Hall as their home ground again in 2007, and the ground was further improved so that it was able to host matches in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. It has since been used to host youth international fixtures for both England and Wales while also hosting Non-League football for community teams in Oswestry. Park Hall is also the name of the surrounding area, in Whittington civil parish, which has housing and some light industries.
