Summerland, British Columbia

Summerland Secondary School (or SSS) is a public secondary school in Summerland, British Columbia, Canada. It is operated by School District 67 Okanagan Skaha. It is the only secondary school in Summerland and one of three in the school district. The school is fed from Summerland Middle School and two elementary schools. The school also hosts a French Immersion program for all grades.

Sun-Oka Beach Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada. Established as Claybanks Beach Park in 1969, the park covers a total area of 30 hectares, the park also conserves 558m of shoreline and 100m of Okanagan Lake foreshore.

The Kettle Valley Steam Railway is a heritage railway near Summerland, British Columbia. The KVSR operates excursion trains over the only remaining section of the Kettle Valley Railway. This section runs from Faulder to Trout Creek, running through West Summerland and the Prairie Valley railway station. The line runs through vistas, orchards, vineyards, and over the 73-metre-tall (238 ft) Trout Creek Trestle. Trains are operated from spring through fall each year and include special events such as the "Great Train Robbery" and "Christmas Express". Trains are pulled by ex-Canadian Pacific 2-8-0 steam locomotive No. 3716 (N-2-b class), built in 1912. The railway also has an ALCO S-6 diesel electric locomotive (originally Southern Pacific No. 1050, more recently owned by Portland Terminals, then Neptune Bulk Terminals in North Vancouver). Between 1995 and 2009 a two-truck Shay locomotive, Mayo Lumber No. 3 was on loan from the BC Forest Discovery Centre in Duncan; it was returned to Duncan on September 17, 2009. Passenger rolling stock includes two ex-CP coaches and three ex-CP stock cars converted into open-air cars. All trains depart the Prairie Valley railway station in Summerland.

Prairie Valley is a station in Summerland, British Columbia, Canada, which is used by the Kettle Valley Steam Railway. The Canadian Pacific Railway no longer operates trains over the railway line, which was disconnected from the Canadian Pacific mainline and abandoned between 1961 and 1989. The Kettle Valley Steam Railway now operates steam excursion trains over the line. This is the main boarding station for the KVSR. Prairie Valley was never a Canadian Pacific station. It was only put in for the tourist railway.

Kickininee Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada, located just south of the town of Summerland in that province's Okanagan region. Originally established in 1970 with approximately 7 acres (28,000 m2) of upland and 113.5 acres (0.459 km2) of foreshore, the park today comprises approximately 48.76 ha.

The station, owned by Bell Media and operating at 97.1 FM with 1,800 watts of power, is branded as Move 97.1 and has an adult contemporary format. Prior to December 27, 2020, CJMG was branded as 97.1 Sun FM with a CHR/Top 40 format.

Naramata is an unincorporated community in the Okanagan region of south central British Columbia. On the eastern shore of southern Okanagan Lake, the locality is by road about 15 kilometres (9 mi) north of Penticton.

In Canadian folklore, the Ogopogo is a lake monster said to inhabit Okanagan Lake in British Columbia, Canada. Some scholars have charted the entity's development from First Nations folklore and widespread water monster folklore motifs. The Ogopogo now plays a role in the commercial symbolism and media representation of the region.

Okanagan Lake Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada. Established in 1955, the park covers a total area of 98 hectares (240 acres).

Faulder is a railway point located in British Columbia, Canada, situated in a large valley 10 km (6.2 mi) west of the town of Summerland. This is also the end point of the Kettle Valley Steam Railway. Named after Evelyn Robert Faulder, it consists of many large acreages and agricultural farms. Faulder has become an area of controversy lately as high levels of uranium have been found in the community's drinking water.

Mineola is a ghost town located in the Okanagan region of British Columbia. It was located west of Okanagan Lake in the Okanagan hills, north of the junction of Trout and Darke Creeks, northwest of Summerland. Mineola was a lumber town. The town had its own post office and was busy for over a decade.

The Okanagan Basin spans two countries and comprises the basin of Okanagan Lake, the Okanogan River and tributary valleys such as that of the Similkameen and Chelan Rivers. In Canada the basin constitutes two distinct regions within British Columbia, the Similkameen Country to the west and the main Okanagan region running from the communities of Osoyoos in the south to Armstrong in the north – incorporating most of the three Okanagan regional districts and is usually known as "the Okanagan" or as the Okanagan Valley or the Okanagan Country. In the United States, the Okanogan Country is the western, lowland core of Okanogan County, which like its Canadian counterpart has a history and economy based on ranching, gold, fruit orcharding and vineyards, but the basin includes Lake Chelan and other flanking valleys. Communities in Washington's Okanogan Basin include Pateros, Omak, Okanogan, Oroville and Brewster. Almost 200 km long and 8000 km2 in area, the Canadian portion of the Okanagan watershed is approximately 2/3 the size of Vancouver Island. Okanagan Lake dominates the basin which contains many small lakes and watercourses. The Okanagan Valley was carved out by glaciers, and when the ice retreated approximately 10,000 years ago, the Canadian portion of the basin was filled with one huge waterbody, Lake Penticton. The Valley was scoured to something like its current state when an ice dam at the southern end of Lake Penticton melted, emptying most of the valley. The Canadian Environmental Grantmakers’ Network considers the Okanagan Basin to be the most arid watershed in Canada, with an urgent need for effective water management. The Okanagan Basin Water Board was established more than 35 years ago, to provide leadership on regional water issues, taking a basin-wide perspective and seeking collaborative solutions.
