Mount Rainier, Maryland

The Mount Rainier Historic District is a national historic district located at Mount Rainier, Prince George's County, Maryland, which began as a streetcar suburb located northeast of Washington, D.C. The district was built on a gently rolling rural landscape from about 1900 to 1940. The district contains more than 1,000 buildings, which are modestly scaled, detached, single-family, frame houses sited closely together with common setbacks. It consists primarily of single-family homes, with some small apartment buildings, a few duplexes, and single family homes that include a small storefront, usually located at the corner of an intersection. With the exception of five churches and a bank building known to have been designed by local architects, the remainder of the district's buildings are vernacular in character. Some homes contain Queen Anne detailing.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Brentwood is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 3,828. Brentwood is located within 1-mile (1.6 km) of Washington. The municipality of Brentwood is located just outside the northeast boundary of the District of Columbia and surrounded by the communities of Mount Rainier, Cottage City, North Brentwood, and the nearby Hyattsville. Along the Route 1 Corridor, Brentwood is part of the Gateway Arts District.

The North Brentwood Historic District, is a national historic district located in the town of North Brentwood, Prince George's County, Maryland. It was the earliest incorporated African American community in the county. The historic district comprises 128 buildings reflecting its development over the period from 1891 to 1950. All of the early vernacular dwellings were of wood-frame construction with Late Victorian inspiration. The 1920s house forms represented included bungalows, multi-family houses, and larger Foursquares. Small brick cottages were primarily built in the period immediately following World War II. The surviving historic buildings illustrate the forms and styles of buildings typically constructed in working-class suburban communities of the period.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

North Brentwood is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 593 at the 2020 census. The municipality of North Brentwood is located north of Washington and is surrounded by the communities of Brentwood, Hyattsville, and Cottage City, and the nearby Mount Rainier. The Town of North Brentwood was incorporated in 1924, and was the first African-American-majority municipality in Maryland.

Woodridge is a residential neighborhood located in Ward 5 of Northeast Washington, D.C. Woodridge is contained between Eastern Avenue N.E. to the east, Taylor Street N.E. to the north, South Dakota Avenue N.E. to the west, and Bladensburg Road N.E. to the south. Its central commercial strips are Rhode Island Avenue NE (Route 1) and Bladensburg Road N.E. Woodridge borders the adjacent neighborhoods of Brookland, Langdon, North Michigan Park, and Fort Lincoln in Northeast Washington D.C. In addition to these neighborhoods in the District of Columbia, Woodridge also borders the city of Mount Rainier and town of Cottage City in Maryland. In terms of public transportation, residents of Woodridge have access to the Brookland-CUA and Rhode Island Avenue Metro stations.

Avondale is an unincorporated community in Prince George's County Maryland, United States. It is contained between Eastern Avenue NE to the south, Queens Chapel Road (MD-500) to the east, and the Northwest Branch Anacostia River to the north and west. Avondale borders the neighborhoods of Hyattsville, Chillum, Green Meadows, and Mount Rainier in Prince George's County, Maryland. In addition to these neighborhoods in Prince George's County, Avondale also borders the North Michigan Park neighborhood of Northeast Washington D.C. The Avondale neighborhood consists of three small subdivisions since being established: Avondale, Avondale Terrace, and North Avondale. For statistical purposes, Avondale is part of the Chillum census-designated place (CDP), even though Avondale is actually a completely separate neighborhood from Chillum.

The Children's Country Home, also known as the Hospital for Sick Children, is a historic building located in Washington, D.C.'s Woodridge neighborhood.

Cottage City, officially the Town of Cottage City, is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 1,335. Cottage City is a small, quiet community lying between Eastern Avenue (the border with Washington), Brentwood, Colmar Manor, and the Anacostia River. Cottage City was developed, beginning in 1870, under the name of "The Highlands". The area was incorporated in 1924 as Cottage City.

West Hyattsville is a Washington Metro station in Hyattsville, Maryland on the Green Line. It is the first station in Prince George's County, Maryland northeast on the Green Line, and is located at 2700 Hamilton Street, near the west side of Ager Road and the north side of Queens Chapel Road. As of 2006, West Hyattsville served 1.246 million riders annually.

Colmar Manor is a town located in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 1,404. As the town developed at the beginning of the 20th century, it assumed a name derived from its proximity to the District of Columbia—the first syllable of Columbia and that of Maryland were combined to form "Colmar". Colmar Manor was incorporated in 1927.

Hyattsville is a city in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. It is an urban suburb of Washington, D.C. The population was 21,187 at the 2020 United States census.

Old Engine Company No. 26, also known as the Langdon Firehouse and Chemical Company No. 3, located at 2715 22nd Street, NE, Washington, D.C. is a historic firehouse built in 1908 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. The firehouse was built in response to a petition by the Northeastern Citizens’ Suburban Association for better fire protection. The Langdon neighborhood where it is located lay outside Washington's hydrant system, so fires were extinguished with chemicals and the station was originally known as Chemical Company No. 3. The station was renamed Engine Company 26 in the 1920s and closed in 1940.Originally built to house Chemical Company 3, the firehouse was renamed Engine Company 26 in 1913. In 1940, a year after a major restructuring of the fire department, Engine Company 26 moved in with Truck Company 15 at 1340 Rhode Island Avenue, N.E. The city then proposed to adapt the building for use as a library. The Rhode Island Avenue Citizens’ Association countered the proposal with one to use the firehouse as a community center. The city decided, instead, to sell the building to the highest bidder. Shortly thereafter, the building was purchased by a church. It was later resold to the New Memorial Temple of Christ Apostolic Faith, Inc., which currently occupies the property.
