New London County is in the southeastern corner of Connecticut and comprises the Norwich-New London, Connecticut Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Hartford-East Hartford, Connecticut Combined Statistical Area. There is no county government and no county seat, as is the case with all eight of Connecticut's counties; towns are responsible for all local government activities, including fire and rescue, snow removal, and schools. New London County contains reservations of four of the five state-recognized Indian tribes, although the Paugassett were historically located farther west. The population was 268,555 as of the 2020 census.

The Mohegan Congregational Church, located in Uncasville, Connecticut, is a historic tribal church founded in 1831 by the Mohegan Tribe. It has served not only as a place of worship but also as a center of tribal governance, cultural preservation, and community cohesion. The church is widely considered one of the central reasons the Mohegan people have remained united and visible as a distinct tribal nation into the present day.

Bridge No. 1860, also known as the Samson Occom Bridge, is a fieldstone arch bridge in Montville, Connecticut, United States. Constructed by the Connecticut State Highway Department in 1936 as a Works Progress Administration project, it is located on Mohegan tribal land in an area that was once a part of Fort Shantok State Park. The bridge carries traffic from Massapeag Side Road (Special Service Road 433) over the Shantok Brook, a tributary of the Thames River. Spanning 12 feet (3.7 m) across the brook, the bridge's arch rises about 6 feet (1.8 m) above the water. According to a 2011 Connecticut Department of Transportation report, it carries 1,100 vehicles per day. Samson Occom Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

The Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center is a Level 3 & 4 high-security prison with two facilities for male offenders, in the Uncasville section of Montville, Connecticut. The prison was opened on December 30, 1994. It is a part of the Connecticut Department of Correction. The Corrigan Correctional Institution and the Radgowski Correctional Institution were merged in 2001 as the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center. This facility, named after two DOC employees, Raymond L. Corrigan and Stanley J. Radgowski Jr., incarcerates both, pretrial and sentenced criminals. The superior courts of Danielson, New London, Norwich, and Windham use this facility.The primary Inmates Population consists of (as of January 1, 2014): Accused: 365 Sentenced: 1,221 Total: 1,586 The Radgowski Annex Building, which first opened in 1957, has a capacity of 257 prisoners. It temporarily closed in 1991 but reopened in 1997. In 2017 Governor of Connecticut Dan Malloy announced that the annex will close due to a lack of prisoners resulting from a lowered crime rate. Gov Ned Lamont announced sept 8th 2021, that the prison will close by the end of 2021 due to declining inmate population.

Cochegan Rock is the largest known boulder in Connecticut. Located in Montville, it is about 54 feet long, 58 feet wide, and 50 feet high. It is estimated to weigh around 7,000 tons.

Fort Shantok, in Montville, Connecticut, was the site of the principal Mohegan settlement between 1636 and 1682 and the sacred ground of Uncas, one of the most prominent and influential Mohegan leaders and statesmen of his era. Originally part of Mohegan reservation lands, the property was taken by the state of Connecticut in the 20th century and Fort Shantok State Park was established. In 1995, following legal action by the tribe to recover its lands, the state returned the park to Mohegan control. The tribe now operates the area, part of its reservation, as a local park. The grounds were declared a National Historic Landmark (as the Fort Shantok Archaeological District) in 1993.

The Mohegan Tribe is a federally recognized tribe and sovereign tribal nation of Mohegan people (pronounced ). Their reservation is the Mohegan Indian Reservation, located on the Thames River in Uncasville, Connecticut. Mohegan's independence as a sovereign nation has been documented by treaties and laws for over 350 years, such as the Treaty of Hartford secured by their Sachem (Chief) Uncas after his cooperation and victory with the English in the Pequot War (1637–1638). Although the Treaty of Hartford established English recognition of the tribe's sovereignty in 1638, after the colonial period and loss of lands, the tribe struggled to maintain recognition of its identity. For centuries its people were assumed by whites to have assimilated to majority culture. The tribe reorganized in the late 20th century and filed a federal land claims suit, seeking to regain land that the state of Connecticut had illegally sold. As part of the settlement, the Mohegan Nation gained federal recognition by the United States government in 1994. That year the US Congress passed the Mohegan Nation (Connecticut) Land Claim Settlement Act. The US authorized the cleaned-up United Nuclear site for use as Mohegan reservation lands, and the property was transferred to the United States in trust for the tribe.Gaining a sovereign reservation enabled the Mohegan to establish gaming operations on their lands to generate revenue for welfare and economic development of their tribe. They opened the Mohegan Sun casino on October 12, 1996, near the former Fort Shantok site above the Thames River.

The Mohegan Sun Arena is a 10,000 seat multi-purpose arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, located inside the Mohegan Sun casino resort. The arena facility features 30,000 square feet (2,800 m2) of configurable exhibition space and a 400-foot (120 m) clear span. It was built by the Perini Building Company, and opened in October 2001.

Mohegan Sun is an American casino, owned and operated by the Mohegan Tribe on 240 acres (97 ha) of their reservation, along the banks of the Thames River in Uncasville, Connecticut. It has 364,000 square feet (33,800 square meters) of gambling space.It is in the foothills of southeastern Connecticut, where 60 percent of the state's tourism is concentrated. It features the 12,000-seat capacity Mohegan Sun Arena, home of the Women's National Basketball Association's Connecticut Sun. It houses a 350-seat Cabaret Theatre, the 300-seat Wolf Den, and 100,000 sq ft (9,300 m2) of meeting and function room space, including the Northeast’s largest ballroom and 130,000 sq ft (12,000 m2) of retail shopping. It is also where the studio of WMOS is located. The casino contains slot machines, gaming tables including poker, blackjack, craps, roulette, Caribbean stud poker, keno and baccarat. The race book offers live horse or greyhound racing from around the U.S. as well as from Australia and England. It also offers wagering on jai-alai from Florida. The economic recession that began in 2007 took a heavy toll on receipts. By 2012 both the Mohegan Sun and nearby competitor Foxwoods Resort Casino (owned by the Mashantucket Pequot) were deeply in debt.At the end of the 2018 fiscal year, Mohegan Sun's net revenue was $1.07 billion.

Earth Tower is a 400-room, 242,000-square-foot (22,500 m2) tower located at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

The Mohegan–Pequot Bridge is a steel girder bridge in Montville and Preston, Connecticut that carries Route 2A over the Thames River. It was built in 1967 as a toll bridge, but the tolls were removed in 1980. The bridge is the northernmost crossing of the Thames River.
