Pasquotank Correctional Institution is a state prison located in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.Pasquotank Correctional Institution houses male close custody inmates, and has a capacity of 896. There is also a 256-bed minimum security prison adjacent to the prison, which was funded by a $87.5 million prison construction program approved by the North Carolina General Assembly in July 1993.On October 12, 2017, Pasquotank Correctional Institution became the site of the deadliest escape attempt in North Carolina history when four inmates attempted to escape from the facility, killing four facility employees in the process.

Newland Road Site, also known as The Nine Foot Brick Road, is a historic archaeological site located near Morgan's Corner, Pasquotank County, North Carolina. The site consists of two remnant portions of a nine-foot wide highway constructed with brick and constructed in 1921–1922.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Pasquotank County High School is a school in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, North Carolina, USA. PCHS's mascot is the Panther. Its school colors are navy blue and silver. It is one of three high schools in the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools system; the other (sometimes considered a rival) is Northeastern High School. PCHS was established in 2000 to relieve the population of Northeastern High; however, all members of the senior class of 2001 remained at Northeastern, making the class of 2002 the first graduating class of Pasquotank County High. The class of 2004 was the first group of students to start at the school as freshmen and graduate from there, spending all four years as PCHS Panthers.

Morgan House is a historic home located in Pasquotank County, North Carolina. It was built circa 1826 for Samuel Holstead, and is a two-story, three-bay, Federal style, temple-form frame dwelling. It sits on a brick pier foundation, with a three-part form-a central section flanked by porches. The front facade features a "dwarf portico" supported by two pairs of vernacular Doric order columns that carry an arched central bay.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Norfolk Southern Passenger Station is a historic train station located at Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, North Carolina. It was built in 1914 by the Norfolk Southern Railway, and is a long one-story brick building with eclectic Mission Revival style design elements. It measures 98 feet by 36 feet, with a small projecting control booth. It is topped by a tall hipped roof sheathed in clay tile. Passenger service at Elizabeth City ceased in early 1948, and the building subsequently housed a variety of commercial businesses.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Elizabeth City is a city in Pasquotank and Camden counties, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 18,629. Elizabeth City is the county seat and most populous city of Pasquotank County. It is the cultural, economic and educational hub of the sixteen-county Historic Albemarle region of northeastern North Carolina.Elizabeth City is the center of the Elizabeth City Micropolitan Statistical Area, with a population of 64,094 as of 2010. It is part of the larger Virginia Beach-Norfolk, VA-NC Combined Statistical Area. The city is the economic center of the region, as well as home to many historic sites and cultural traditions. Marketed as the "Harbor of Hospitality", Elizabeth City has had a long history of shipping due to its location at a narrowed bend of the Pasquotank River. Founded in 1794, Elizabeth City prospered early on from the Dismal Swamp Canal as a mercantile city. Later it developed industry and other commercial focus. While Elizabeth City still retains extensive waterfront property, it is linked to neighboring counties and cities by contemporary highways and bridges to support other transportation. It hosts one of the largest United States Coast Guard bases in the nation.

Elizabeth City Water Plant is a historic municipal water plant located at Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, North Carolina. The complex includes the contributing Elizabeth City Water Plant Building, Coagulation Basin (1926), Raw Water Pump House (c. 1935), the Circular Finished Water Reservoir (1926), and the Raw Water Reservoir (c. 1935). The Elizabeth City Water Plant Building is a Mission Revival style brick building sheathed in stucco and built in 1926. It consists of a projecting three-bay three-story central pavilion flanked on each side by identical two-story blocks. It is topped by a broad hipped roof covered by green clay tiles.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Southgate Mall is the sole enclosed shopping center in the sixteen county Historic Albemarle region of northeastern North Carolina. Located on West Ehringhaus Street (US 17 Business) in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, the mall is currently anchored by Belk and until its closing in early April 2015; JCPenney. Construction of the mall started in 1967 at a cost of $3 million ($21.2 million in 2014 dollars), opening two years later as Southgate Plaza Shopping Center with senior anchors Belk-Tyler and W. T. Grant. Junior anchors Winn-Dixie and Peoples Drug filled positions intermediate to anchors and smaller shops.

The Grice–Fearing House is the oldest house (ca. 1798) in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, located at 200 South Road Street. It is a contributing property in the Shepard Street–South Road Street Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was originally built for Francis Grice. After his death, his widow Mary married Isaiah Fearing, thus providing the house with its name.The house is now operated as a two-suite bed and breakfast.
