Mound City, Kansas

The Linn County Courthouse in Mound City, Kansas was built in 1885. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It was designed by Topeka architect George Ropes. It is a two-story-with-basement red brick building with a 110 by 60 feet (34 m × 18 m) plan and height almost 65 feet (20 m). Its foundation is a native limestone wall, separated from brick above by a smooth cut stone belt course. A second belt course circles the building at level of the second story's window sills.

The Old Linn County Jail, also known as City Hall, at 312 Main Street in Mound City in Linn County, Kansas was built in 1867–68. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. It is two-story front-gabled building with 21 inches (0.53 m) thick brick walls on a 27 by 34 feet (8.2 m × 10.4 m) plan. The building began serving as city hall for Mound City in 1903.

Mound City's post was established by 1860 in Mound City, Kansas, United States. In August 1861 U.S. Senator James H. Lane reported to the commander of Fort Leavenworth that the post was to be fortified. In fact, Mound City's post became one of the important posts guarding against Confederate guerrilla attacks along the Kansas-Missouri border. Through the War usually 200 to 300 troops at a time were stationed at the post. Probably the most well known commander of this post was Charles Jennison, a notorious Jayhawker and Redleg, who commanded men who committed numerous depredations against Missourians who they assumed were all disloyal to the Union. Eventually Jennison's excesses caught up with him and he removed as the post's commander, arrested and finally was dishonorably discharged from the Army on June 23, 1865.

Its county seat is Mound City, and its most populous city is Pleasanton. As of the 2020 census, the county population was 9,591. The county was named for Lewis Linn, a U.S. Senator from Missouri.

The city is named after the Marais des Cygnes River which is a French translation of an Osage appellation meaning "marsh of the swans".

Centerville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Linn County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 78. It is located 8.5 miles (13.7 km) north of the city of Blue Mound.

The Landers Creek Bridge, also known as the Goodrich Bridge and located at the southern edge of Goodrich in Linn County, Kansas, is a stone arch bridge built in 1917. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The bridge design reflects the transition of materials: it uses stone voussoirs, concrete piers, and concrete spandrel walls. It has five stone arches and is 82 feet (25 m) long with a 14 feet (4.3 m) roadway (from curb to curb). The roadway is 14 feet (4.3 m) above Landers Creek. Small limestone wing walls were added later.
